Come on now. That wasn't even close to right down the middle and him sitting there watching that was no different than all of our hitters who chased splitters below the zone to strike out.

Close to playoff baseball atmosphere tonight. Unfortunately, feels like typical playoff losses for the Brewers.

Still did the necessary work of getting the split in Chicago. But taking 3-of-4 after the blowout in Game 1 would’ve felt tons better.

Good heavens, it’s not like it was an amazing pitch that barely clipped the corner. Does it matter if it was middle/middle or inner third?

and yes, it’s different. You don’t go down looking with 2 strikes and 2 outs with 2 ducks on the pond.

Just play the best players. So tired of all the shuffling. Pratt is the shortstop. Ortiz is the 3b. Lara is the right fielder. Bauers the dh and Vaughn is the 1b. If Turang is hurt give Hamilton some time at 2b. I don’t understand the need to spin the wheel and come up with a bad lineup every night.

Sure but look at all of the times hitters chased splitters well below the zone to strike out. That's the game Gausman plays. You never know if a FB or splitter is coming so sometimes you guess wrong and get caught watching a FB for strike three and other times you end up chasing a splitter way below the zone for strike three.

Well, be aware of the situation and don’t get caught guessing when a single scores you two runs with 2 outs. That’s my main point. 
 

If Turang swings and misses there, it sucks but I can at least live with the physical mistake. That’s what I’m saying.

No question that the Cubs improved their SP with their deadline moves.

A veteran with playoff experience might be a big factor.even if he’s had a rocky season.

Some good, some bad.

My one gripe about Murph tonight is that he let two left-on-left matchups happen in the 9th, while Gary Sanchez sat on the bench in a one-run game.

Other than that, our left-handed hitters really let us down. Not a good performance offensively from them. Cubs pitched well, we didn't get a ton of chances, and we failed to put pressure on when we had the chance.

The good obviously starts with Henderson. That guy looks nails. What a great performance.

From a travel/rest perspective, we also got this one done quickly (half-blue). Seriously, though, we only used two pitchers, and buying a day of rest for our bullpen, which had to work hard this series, despite two easy wins is important. 

Great showing from the young guys this series, too, especially Pratt and Lara.

In terms of the Cubs, their pitching is clearly gassed, even though they managed to hold on tonight. They now take a much longer trip to Miami and then have to return fly back to Milwaukee without an off day. 

Overall, I think this series is a big-time net positive. Took four games off the calendar and held steady in the division. Going to take something insane to lose the Central. Win one game in Milwaukee, and you own the tiebreaker too. As for the bye, I'm just not that worried about the Braves. Their schedule is so, so hard, starting right now. Phillies, Rays, Phillies, Cubs, Astros. Two+ weeks of difficult after difficult. The Dodgers have work to do to catch us, too. They might. But if we play just okay down the stretch, it's going to be hard for BOTH of those teams to do enough. 

We're set up really, really well. Just keep grabbing wins. If we can get on even a mini-roll against the Reds (twice), Pirates, and Orioles, we're going to be playing a 5-game series again.

If that was a splitter below the zone and Turang chased and whiffed for a strikeout you'd be saying how it was a bad chase and undisciplined. Gausman dominated us tonight and Turang certainly was not alone in that regard.

There was nothing about this series that says we would bury these guys in the playoffs.   
 

problem is all the rest of the national league teams are good so it really doesn’t matter.    Just get the bye that’s all that matters

No, I wouldn’t. Please don’t put words in my mouth. 

I’ve been a longstanding advocate for not just guessing when you have a situation where there’s 2 outs and a situation where the bases are loaded or there’s runners on 2nd and 3rd. I understand you can guess wrong there but with 2 strikes in that situation, you can’t get caught with the bat on your shoulders, that is my philosophy. So, you’re wrong there as to how I would feel.

You're right. Vaughn has to be in the lineup more. Turang has to be hurt the way he's playing. 2 for 16 with 7 whiffs in the series. They need him healthy (or as close to it as possible) for the playoffs, so sit him for a while. Hopefully Bauers can get the bat untracked. He's getting on base with walks, but the hits and RBIs aren't there right now. I don't know what to think about Rollover. He looks good for a couple of games then goes right back to little weak grounders.

I’m okay with Turang working through it and still playing everyday because of how important his defense is but at this point he needs to be hitting 8th or 9th.
