The Brewers could have brought Counsell back if they wanted to at a reduced price. Counsell didn't want to come back at a price the Brewers were willing to offer. The Brewers didn't offer arby to Counsell to try to get a draft pick because then you can only cut by 20% and they thought no one would sign Counsell for more so he'd be back at $2 million.

Here are some random thoughts. I haven't read the whole thread so I apologize if I repeated some things.

This reminded me of a high school game in that our pitcher throwing the shutout was also our best hitter.

Coors Field has become an easier place to pitch now that you don't have to face the likes of Bichette, Castilla, and Walker.

Maybe it was just me, but it seemed that we were determined NOT to walk. We still swing at too many pitches early in the count, or with the count in our advantage, that we can't do anything with.

A split would be great in HOU. It would also close out a winning road trip and reverse the nasty slide from last week as they head home for two weeks. I would definitely take the split.

The Brewers won, but I am not impressed. The offense was pathetic. Thank god for the pitching and some bad baserunning by the Rockies. We got very lucky tonight.

Maybe this makes up for the 3-0 loss against Brad Hennessy and the Giants.

As soon as they have more wins than losses, I will renew my interest in WC talk. Hopefully that happens within the next week or so.

Augie I agree with you. We are going to get owned in Houston if we don't start to work the count. I seem to remember this being a much more patient bunch. We are not facing Colorado pitchers anymore. I don't think we can anticipate our SP's to win for us with their stick as well as with pitches. I know that everyone is happy that we won a series, but for goodness sakes it was the Rockies.

... and the Brewers inch one game closer in the race:

 W L GB Winning Rec. 82 80 --- Brewers 59 62 2.5

And only 1 "team" ahead of them! They'll have to finish 23-18 to do it, but with all the home games left they may have a shot.

Good luck Brewers!
