07/03/2004: Brewers (Obermueller) at Pirates (Benson)

Apparently, after everyone on BF drank themselves to sleep last night following the DH sweep, someone had to start the game thread. Time for the stopper, Wes Obermueller, to go out there and get it done against a guy they have roughed up a few times before, WI native Kris Benson.

Benson v. Crew: 3-4, 4.09 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, .261 BAA

Obermueller v. Bucs: 0-0, 8.00 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, .342 BAA

I love the Brewers but....is it bad that I would prefer a rainout tonight then having to sit through this game? I cant take another Jack Wilson b*tch slap.

I hate to be down on the team at the moment....I'm not really. But this Pirates team just seems too hot....and I don't think we have a snowballs chance in hell of winning this one.

Thanks (again) Bill.

I will preface this by saying that this is an off-the-wall comment, and that I despise Tony LaRussa and his "bigger than the game" attitude. However, why not hit Obermueller in the 8th spot and move Gary "The Glove" to the ninth? I know that this post will result in questions on my sanity, my intelligence, and more, but I seriously think that Henry Blanco would be a better offensive option at C than Bennett.

On a happy note, the Yankees lost:

Totally off-topic, but I needed to ask this . . Have the fireworks in downtown Milwaukee been officially rescheduled due to the weather? If anyone hears anything, please post a reply either here or in the "off-topic? forum.

In case anyone missed it, Junior Spivey is out with an injured shoulder. No word yet on what exactly is wrong, how severe it is, or how long he'll be out. Sounded like day-to-day, though.

Did Grieve just make a nice catch? I must be dreaming. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Wow, the defensive positioning has been AMAZING this season. I thought for sure the Sausage Whacker had a basehit there.

You know, when you see an inning with 9-1-2 due up, you usually think you're just basically going to start with 1 out. With Obermueller pitching, it's actually an intriguing start.

I would like to see Yost try out Wes as a contact-hitting Kieschnick type player. Move him to the pen for long relief and pinch hitting opportunities.

I'm not a big advocate of throwing at people, but I didn't have a problem with working Bay inside enough to hit him. He's hotter than a firecracker and the previous hitter just pulled an outside pitch 425 feet.

Pittsburgh was getting waaaay too comfortable at the plate.
