6/16/2004 - Brewers (Davis) vs. Mariners (Nageotte)

Posted

The Brewers will try to win the series today, though they have one more game if for some reason they don't win today. Doug Davis will try to get another quality start for the Crew, as he faces Clint Nageotte.

Do you guys think that Overbay will see more teams intentionally walking him, as seen in the Astros series? He continues to burn the opposition in tight situations and the Brewers don't have an "efficient" number five hitter at the moment.

Does anyone else wish Lyle + Jenks would be swapped, especially during the recent Jenks hot streak? Seems too logical. Overday double, Jenks homer, 2+ runs baddabing baddaboom.

Hopefully "DD = the man" is still true after tonight.

Fourth try this year to get to four over .500. Looking for the fourth win of the homestand.

Maybe we'll get in the spirit of things and hit 4 homers.

Heck I'd settle for 4 runs!

Apparently the Mariners were really down after yesterday's loss. They had just swept Montreal and they thought they had turned a corner. But then Santos shut them down.

I say let's kick them while they are down. Time to make a surge in the standings. This is the time.

I can see the argument of switching Jenks and Overbay with O batting 3rd, but I think I like it a little better the way the are. With Jenks having O as protection in the lineup Jenks is able to see some better pitches and O seems a little more willing to take a walk in the fourth spot than Jenks. The problem has been the fifth hole. With Jenks seeing the ball well and teams pitching around O, it would really be nice to have someone in the 5-hole who could pick them up when they are on base. Grieve and Ginter have been ok, but I don't think either is a long term solution.

Let's not fall prey to the unknown rookie curse vs. Nageotte.

EDIT: Hmm, not sure what happened to my account, but I just went from 700+ posts to a rookie making my first post. Weird. Oh well, as long as I'm still able to be here.

That's a valid point about protection. I suppose either way you put 'em, the 4 hitter isn't going to see much until whoever 5 is starts hitting too...

Let's keep up this trend of winning the first 2 games in each series! Would be real nice if the Crew could win tonight coupled with a St. Louis loss. MAN! I can hardly believe I am looking so closely at the standings on 6/16...

One question, what was the Brewers record around this time in '01? Weren't they 34-32 (or something like that) after a sweep of the Cubs and then progressed to being sweeped by the Pirates (I recall something about "sweep suits")? My memory is not so clear regarding recent Brewer history, so any clarification would be nice.

I admit, I'm getting chills listening to the Paul Molitor ceremony at Miller Park right now. I just wish they'd have bought a better mic.

'Atta boy, Paully. Makes me proud to be a Brewers fan.

I'll admit it, too, Toby... I was a bit teary eyed. It was a pretty cool moment and Uecker did a really nice job. Watching the video montage on TV was awesome... and Pauly was definitely touched. What a guy.

Go Brewers!

Another rushed throw when Scotty is running. Isn't it amazing how a lot of those end up in centerfield ?

I've been following Clint Nageotte for a while, but I had no idea that his name was pronounced that way. NUH-jjjjett. I guess you learn something new every day.

USA Today doesn't have lineups yet, but hopefully everyone has figured it out via TV/radio.

'At a boy, Gint. That was his kind of at-bat... no swings, 3-1, hit-by-pitch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

That was pretty funny.

This kid has thrown a lot of pitches so far.

Yeah... and he looks like he's just run a marathon.

Anybody see a bit of Neugebauer in him? Maybe a little Schilling, too?

***? 3-for-9. Nice work, Brady. NOT.

What did Ben Grieve do? Two days off in a row against right-handers?

Cripes.

Unless it's been posted, but I'd like to nominate a nickname for Brady Clark (unless he has one I haven't read)...

Rally Killer.

It always seems that when I see him up (on MLB.com Gameday, not in real life mind you) in a critical inning, it's some sort of bad out (ie a K when we needed a sac fly or grounder).
