This seems quite odd. Was he forced out? 62 isn't that old, and the Angels have been very good in the last 5 years. Why the change?

He was consistently criticized for failing to sign much of a supporting cast for Vlad Guerrero, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was being forced out. While the Angels have been good for the past 5 years, many fans have grown tired of his lack of acquisitions (they made a weak run at Paul Konerko a few years ago and overpaid for Gary Matthews last year, but that's about it) and his anti-sabermetric views. I know Angels fans that are praying that the Angels hire someone like Paul DePodesta, but it seems pretty clear that they're going to hire someone from Stoneman's staff, like the article mentions.

Stoneman is a pretty decent GM in my eyes. He had a pretty big budget, but seemed to find guys that worked together. You come up with Reggie Willits, I salute you sir.

I wonder how this will affect the A-rod negotiations. Could it be that Moreno wanted to be more aggressive in going after Arod than Stoneman wanted to be?
