  1. Do the Brewers need a jumpstart? Or are they in need of an overhaul? Areas needed to upgrade on next years Brewers: team defense, bullpen, left field What I would love to see happen: Braun moves from 3rd base to Left field, the Brewers are to good of a club to be allowing team defense to bring this club down. Can Braun turn into a good 3rd baseman? Yes, probably. How long would it take though? The Brewers can't afford to have Braun and Weeks in the same infield, especially when Fielder and Hardy seem to be very limited in range. The Brewers have a huge hole in LF and Braun would at least give the Brewers a trio of OFers that would have +range. Hart, Hall, Braun with Gwynn as primary backup. Now that fills the LF hole but leaves a larger hole at 3rd base. Joe Crede and Chad Tracy are potential trade targets I would like to see the Brewers to explore. Mike Lowell is a free agent who I would also give a look to. Bullpen, Scott Linebrink needs to be resigned. Linebrink, Turnbow, Villenueva is a decent trio of relievers. And finally a move simply to make a move. Trade Bush or Capuono for Ramon Hernendez and a prospect. Weeks Hart Fielder Braun Hernendez Lowell Hall Hardy Sheets Gallardo Suppan Bush/Capuono Parra Disclaimer: I know the Brewers probably aren't going to move Braun off 3rd base, im just not certain keeping him is the best move.
  2. I kinda see a move like this as nothing more than a Thank You to a player that has dominated AAA this year. With Linebrink going on Bearevement (sp?) Dillion will get a few games on the big league club maybe get an AB or two and then get sent down. I would just hope they can find a way to get Dillion a start. See what he can do.
  3. Did Mark Cuban already buy the Pirates? I'm in total agrement that this is a baffling deal for the Pirates. If the Brewers made it I would think that it is justifiable. Maybe unnecessary, but justifiable.
  4. Congrats to Joe Dillon. After looking at his numbers he has earned his way onto the roster, even if it is only for a few days / weeks.
  5. I keep hoping that deal falls through with very little time before the deadline, making the Rangers try and furiously find a replacement team for Gagne.
  6. Nooo! Oh well at least he didn't go to the Cubs. I really was getting optomistic though.
  7. The question about Gagne's status as a Type A or Type B free agent I would think would only help the Brewers to aquire him. With Linebrink everyone kind of assumes that the Brewers had to give up that much to get Linebrink and those two picks. If there are questions about what level free agent Gagne is it is only going to temper his value, trade wise. Could it be possible that Gagne will cost less than Linebrink? Probably, IMO. Gagne is a much better pitcher but has injury problems. Has questions about what level of free agent he will be. Is on a team that isn't competing this year.
  8. Pretending Weeks isn't an option for most dissapointing I'll say Dave Bush. I really had high hope for him coming into the season. A sub-4 era definitely, but also for him to be able to go deep into games consistently. I probably had unrealistic expectations. The comments from ?Melvin? comparing Bush's secondary stats to Carpenters didn't help temper my expectations. (But I guess bush is having a better season than Carpenter, haha) Surprising - Braun. Seriously, did anyone see this as his upside? Did Melvin? Did Zudnerick? I seem to remember after drafting him a lot of people saying that he would top out as a .300 hitter with 20 homers 20 steals. A poor mans, offensive, David Wright.
  9. I think this deal is probably the Yankees realizing they won't have Rodriguez at 3rd next year. Betemit is a cheap good player, who could competently man 3rd for the Yankees. Or if in the offseason they can find an upgrade over him at 3rd, he is a player that would be easy to pawn off on another team for equal value. Although I just can't believe that A-Rod would walk away from that contract.
  10. Trading for Gagne would be the perfect move. The Brewers would have the market cornered on soon to be free agent closers. They basically could use the rest of this season as a tryout and sign the best value of the three and then get compensatory picks for the other two. With all those picks the Brewers would be in the perfect sitluation to infuse a ton of talent back into the system. Drafting both high ceiling college players and fast rising college players. I am going to miss the trade deadline when it goes.
  11. rotoworld.com Cubs and sox the favorites rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2908
  12. icky....gross...yuck.... i'll never go to sleep
  13. Turnbow, yes. If the Brewers have a plan for closer next year. Villlenueva, maybe, If the Brewers can get another player back. Parra, no. I have some manly Manny love. How essential having a LHP in the starting rotation is debatable but I am really starting to like the idea of trading Capuono in the off-season and having a rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Suppan, Bush, Parra, next year.
  14. If it was Turnbow involved which I think is moderately likely, I would assume that Craig Hansen would have to be involved.
  15. The problem is the Brewers starter aren't getting deep into games. Going into the season it looked great on paper, Capuono, Bush, Suppan all where guys who should be going 7+ innings, Sheets when healthy should be doing the same, but it seems like every game the starter is getting pulled after 6, or getting pulled in the 6th.
  16. Yes, Fransisco Cordero is a very good closer. He has a track record of having a low-to-mid 3's era. He probably will again this year. On the other hand it would apear he is struggling on the road, which may admitedly be a statistical abberation. At home he is 21 for 21 in save opportunitites. On the road he is 11 for 16. Why not give Turnbow or Linebrink the occasional road Save opportunity?
  17. Rotoworld was reporting that deal last night, and that it fell apart due to a third team balking at a player they would've had to include. Wish there was some more info on this because I would be curious what the Brewers would get / giveup. Wily Mo Pena, is a name that is nonstop mentioned as a player the sox are shopping.
  18. This deal just dosen't make sense to me. I do like the D-Rays getting Wheeler, depending on how long they would control his baseball rights. I don't like the deal from Houstons perspective. Wigginton is a guy that IMO is basically a platoon player. Houston has Loretta / Lamb / Ensberg, someone is going to have to get moved for this to make any sense. Even then I would think that Houston would have been better served to get the best package of prospects that you could.
  19. Gordon Solie (explative deleted) Nine Shocks Terror Avail Behind Enemy Lines Vitamin X A ton more but basically any hardcore show is a good time.
  20. With relievers I know the sample size is probably to small, but... Fransisco Cordero Home .33 era / .7 whip / .090 baa Road 7.2 era / 1.8 whip / .375 baa All 5 of his BS's are on the road. Those numbers are really staggering and it's not like the era is just inflated due to a few numbers his secondary stats also are scary. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6300/gamelog;_ylt=ApEq8.5KHxRkZ2foUdrZwmOFCLcF Looking at his gamelog it seems like every game he pitches in on the road he is giving up hits like mad. Maybe it's time for a closer by commitee, I would feel compfortable with anyone of the Cordero / Turnbow / Linebrin / Villenueva combo pitching in the 9th inning.
  21. LF Adam Dunn worth (3 points) Prediction: Reds RF Jermaine Dye ( 5 points) Prediction: White Sox 1B Mark Texiera ( 10 points) Prediction: Rangers SS Edgar Renteria ( 2 points) Prediction: Braves SP Matt Morris ( 3 points) Prediction: Mairiners RP Eric Gagne ( 3 points) Prediction: Rangers RP Octavio Dotel ( 5 points) Prediction: Mariners 1B Richie Sexson ( 3 points) Prediction: Mariniers 1B Dimitri Young ( 4 points) Prediction: Nationals RP Joaquin Benoit ( 2 points) Prediction: Rangers I really don't think there is going to be much movement at all. Dye is the one name that I think could be moved that I had staying, if the White Sox bring down there demands a bit.
  22. I've gotta admit I can't leave the computer, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop to make this a much more likable deal. The more I think about it I just really hate that the Brewers didn't give Thatcher a chance this year. I really was optomisticly excited about his potential in the pen. I really think that he will be a great addition to the Padres.
  23. rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2233 Rotoworld is reporting that a few weeks back the White Sox asked for Linebrink and Greene for Dye. Seems a pretty steep price, but so does what the Brewers paid for Linebrink. So would you trade: Alcides Escobar Scott Linebrink for Dye I wouldn't. I love Dye, but no dyce.
  24. Nope, not unless were talking about a blockbuster type deal for Orlando Hudson. Would the Brewers have room for Graffinino / Counsell / Weeks / plus one?
  25. Does anyone else kind of think that the Brewers going after Linebrink, and the two probable compensatory picks might be related to Baseball strongly recommending that teams not go over slot value when drafting players? In the past it seems that the Brewers were willing to draft players in rounds 4-10 and later that were first round talents but falling due to signability concerns, albeit not to the extent of the Yankees or Red Sox. Now with the rule change is it possible the Brewers are just trying to do what is neccessary to draft multiple first round talents?
