  1. I stupidly deleted ougiqbxy's earlier thread because I am dumb. Thanks ougiqbxy for resubmitting
  2. He's the gift that keeps on giving. Genuinely seems like a good guy, though. I guess I'm a softy but Davey Nelson's passing has given me a new appreciation of Augie.
  3. I thought I saw he made 2 errors a couple days ago. I also am on board with him sticking at AA, though I could easily be talked into a September callup exclusively for PH appearances and a taste of(hopefully) a playoff run. I wouldn't bring him up in September just to pinch hit. If he's ready, stick him in the lineup and have him help this team get to the postseason. We're talking about an advanced bat the likes of which we haven't seen in this organization in s long time playing a position where production has been an issue. Now if Villar is producing at a level that's determined to be an asset rather than a liability, fine, wait until they are a couple months into the 2019 season and then bring him up ala Braun in 2007. I still think he gets advanced to AAA for at least 2-3 weeks this season though. I agree that Hiura looks like a special talent. But 2B production has not been an issue at all. Villar since May 1: .282/.336/.485/.822 Villare since June 1: .294/.333/.559/.892 Hiura might come up as a luxury PH option, but I agree it'd be better to keep him off the 40-man this season.
  4. Since promotion to AA: .378/.440/.578/1.018 Since he started playing 2B (May 8th): .368/.444/.594/1.038 I do hope they continue to sprinkle in days off for him to keep his arm & body fresh, but man how do you keep that bat out of the lineup?! #Hitura
  5. You don't just have TJ done as a preventative step, it's only for when your ligament actually tears. As far as I think can be determined thus far, Hiura had some soreness to start the season, but he's played 2B in 11 of 12 June games so far (appears he was rested for the one game he didn't start/play 2B; only had 1 PA on 6/4) & in 26 of his last 34 games. Looks like we were pretty cautious with him in May, but since June they've pretty much turned him loose as the regular 2B. Can't imagine they'd do that if he had any discomfort still. Time will tell with his defense & arm, but if he just keeps hitting in the meantime, I think whatever will happen will work out fine.
  6. I think Davis is a DH only. I believe that playing him anywhere else would be losing baseball. Imagine an outfield of Davis/Cain/Yelich... we'd need to call Phillips back up to be a designated thrower
  7. I certainly hope you are right and Hiura is up in late 2018 or early 2019. However, that all assumes that he continues to own AA pitching. Moreover, Hiura is still considered a butcher in the field. So although his bat might be ready, they may need to figure something out with the glove. Is he? Not saying I know one way or the other, but from some of what I've read on him lately, it sounds like some folks think he can be decent at 2B. Not Brandon Phillips with the leather or anything, but solid enough to go along with his bat.
  8. But it does match the profile of the type of upside prospect analysts felt he'd have, even prior to his Biloxi season. I understand being frustrated with Arcia now, and I am as well. But I'm also not writing him off for the future & I'm certainly not in agreement that his MiLB time doesn't give room for optimism. He was younger for each level & all the way up the chain scout/prospect watchers loved his swing. I think it's very reasonable to think he can make the adjustments needed, I just hope that can happen this season.
  9. WE NEED ANOTHER TORTS CAPS LOCK POST FOR THE 1-0 TODAY
  10. Yes. Please ease off this line of discussion. Enjoy the win -- same team guys!
  11. Saladino Sogard Villar Perez No idea on Miller yet, but it doesn't sound like he's good at short.
  12. Good target idea. What do you (& others) think it'd take to get him, and what would you be willing to pay?
  13. Good call, TheJumpAround
  14. Seems like an upgrade over both Sogard & Perez (creates some interesting opportunities to play to the platoon advantage, though, with Perez + Miller). Good use of depth by both clubs. Even if you don't believe in Choi, obviously the Rays view him as worth giving a shot, & they gave up someone they viewed as redundant (just like we did w Choi). Fun deal.

  16. The bold is how I'd describe Sogard, so why not take a shot on Miller?
  17. Good target, Surhoff5. Tampa may want to wait until the deadline to see if they can close the gap on the AL's second WC spot. For now it's looking like the WC's will go to two of BOS/NYY/SEA/HOU. Hopefully those clubs make Tampa's decision easy & sooner. Via MLBTradeRumors, I found an article from one of the Rays' beat writers from April 14th, with this note buried way at the end: Sounds like they might listen to offers even now.
