  1. Jett - Don't forget your bat (out of hell) this year then. And Jett I thought the only lonely place was on the moon!
  2. https://twitter.com/BleacherNation/status/966850326065278976/photo/1 The difference is drastic -- looks like a CGI effect in a movie more than actually real.
  3. Excellent -- looking forward to reading and learning more.
  4. The first reply to Eisen's tweet about the proposed rule change...
  5. Seconded/Fourthed/Whatevered benji, please post as much as you're able to about injuries & rehab. I think it's fascinating, and since basically all reporting on injuries in sports is from sportwriters -- who mean well -- as a fan you typically just don't get very complete or useful information.
  6. And big huge muscles
  7. No matter how good it is, I hope (& have faith) that Stearns will always jump at the chance to make it better. Or the rotation, or the lineup. This Tampa sale is a bit surprising, I think I'd be inclined to ask them about anyone.
  8. Keep on topic & stay civil please, folks. No more ad hominem stuff.
  9. Same here. And I'm actually okay with not making an addition prior to the season starting. Just like teams can have injuries that necessitate acquisitions, there can be injuries to key players that torpedo a campaign & make other talented teammates available on the trade market.
  10. Yes, it mattered so much when Corey Knebel took the role last year. It's 3 outs in a baseball game and a very overused cliche. The pressure or fact that guys face the best pinch hitters does mean something at times, but not nearly that much. I personally have always felt they same way you do about the closer role. But the one thing that sways me is that you always hear pitchers talk about it being a unique challenge (I think even Smoltz has spoken to this, & he was a great pitcher, & an announcer who I like because he doesn't spout cliches). In this case I think perception does equal reality, at least to some extent.
  11. Given how little Walker has actually accomplished so far, I'm not sure I'd want to offer Santana for him. 157.1 is his high for IP so far, & he's only controlled for three more seasons. Not saying I think Santana is worth Walker+, but I'd rather use Domingo to go after a better SP. I feel like, if we acquire Walker, we'd burn his three years finishing his development into a 200 IP/yr arm, just in time to lose him to FA. I like the idea of trying to trade for an emerging & not established arm, but no way I'd pay as much as you're proposing for Walker.
  12. But if Yu try sometimes, Yu find Yu get what Yu need. A+ stuff, gentlemen
  13. 2012 and 2013 were good as well. 2014 was lost to injury. Since 2012, he's put up a 2.89 ERA. Good pickup by Stearns & Co.
  14. Well said. As superfly & others have said, let's bring this thread back on topic. Further debate posts about HH will be composted. Thanks!
  15. Nitpicking, but he has 4 years left under salary control.
  16. Heh, whoops. Guess I just never got that almost spiteful-type attitude I usually associate with "I told you so". I don't think HH said, or anyone feels, his "word is gospel" -- just that he's sharing what looks to be legit insider info. Doesn't mean it'll always pan out.
  17. Agreed, he never boasted about anything & was very candid about whether any deals fell apart, or if any offers got rescinded. He was also very careful to say numerous times along the way that this was simply info he was getting from his friend, not anything that he was making a hardline prediction on. Deals fall apart more often than they come together. If he'd been puffing out his chest & saying 'I told you so', I'd be inclined to believe he was spewing nonsense. But I believe that he was relaying info as it was given to him, because that's kinda exactly what he did (& how he did it) here.
  18. Wait, so you don't think if Cain declines and isn't good that we're just going to ignore his salary and pretend like we aren't even paying him? No. I'm saying you have no earthly clue how this affects anything in the future. Maybe he doesn't decline all that much, or at all. Who knows. I know I don't know and I know you don't know. Have a good night now. Tone down the condescension, please. Thank you!
  19. Of course. The Stanton deal was to clear the huge contract, and Ozuna only has two years of team control remaining, while not playing a premium defensive position (with Yelich on a good value contract for 5 more seasons.)
  20. Well, that's the problem. He's not a special player. Obviously, I disagree
  21. So they kept all the top pitching prospects. I think I can be ok with that... not in love, but ok. Heavy price, but Yelich is a special player.
  22. Covers his age-31-33 seasons. With his past two seasons' production, & overall durability, I'm surprised he didn't get a 4-yr deal, or at least an option on a 4th year.
  23. This is spot on. JosephC did a great job earlier in the thread dissecting the value involved in this possible trade involving Santana and Salazar. I agree Santana is more valuable than Salazar due to the extra year of control and having lower injury risk than Salazar, but it’s not enough to justify the Indians including a top 25 MLB prospect for 2-3 additional pieces that have very little trade value. Matching up these teams on a realistic trade that includes the Brewers acquiring both Salazar and Mejia is nearly impossible. I'm not advocating for this, but I think Santana + Ortiz for Salazar + Mejia would at least be close. Brewers might need to add more, but hopefully not a ton.
