  2. Ditto this -- give the clip a watch if you haven't seen it. Just a young guy over the moon about his opportunity & having his loved ones there with him:
  3. Lucroy's also off to a good start with Oakland. Definitely a small sample, but his slash line looks a lot like the Lucroy we had in Milwaukee. If he can keep hitting, I wonder what his price tag would be (as a rental)
  4. It'll be interesting to see what Cincy can get for him. They should absolutely be looking to deal him this year, when he's not just a rental. Last year & so far this season, his road OPS has been .810-.815, & home about .940-.950. I'd still happily take an .800+ OPS from 2B, but he might go for a cheaper price than you'd expect at first glance of his stat line. Would also be nice to add another lefty bat to the lineup. Not sure I'd give up Phillips for him, but not sure I wouldn't, either. Cincy is probably not happy with just Phillips.
  5. Love the nugget here that Arcia's getting in to work early. I still really believe he's going to put it together at the plate, & wind up being worth going through the current growing pains.
  6. Hoping this is a good pitching matchup. I mean, I'm *hoping* we shell Bettis & put up some crooked number. But a good punch-for-punch pitcher matchup would be fun to watch too.

  10. I missed yesterday's game, but I assume this is a rough approximation of our collective plate appearances
  11. Great SI article on Kingham & his excellent debut against the Cardinals -- he worked a perfect 6.2 innings, & finished at 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9K (98 pitches, 72 for strikes). The Crew might have their work cut out for them tonight. https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/05/01/nick-kingham-pittsburgh-pirates

  13. That was me, trying to make the title less vague. I'll change it to those guys. Sorry!
  14. Arcia since the Cincy series April 16th -- .295 /.311/.409/.720 Santana's uptick started with this most recent road trip, starting in KC -- .333/.370/.417/.787 Both are very small samples, but it's encouraging to see them both start to get going.

  16. Interesting note on Castillo. I wonder if he's a candidate for a late scratch today.

  18. I cannot possibly understand where this narrative is coming from. 5 IP, 3ER 5 IP, 4 ER 5.1 IP, 1 ER 5 IP, 3 ER 5 IP, 5 ER 5 IP, 2 ER Those are Suter's game logs so far. All early hooks, but every pitcher has gotten early hooks, so it must be by design. These are by no means great numbers, but none are blow-up starts either. I mean, is it because he doesn't throw fast? That has to be it, right? Because what he's putting up are 4th-5th starter numbers, which is exactly what he is and what is expected of him. He by no means deserves the ridicule he's getting on this board. I'd much rather have Suter's consistency than Miley's likely 6 IP, 3 ER line followed by a 3 IP, 8 ER line. I think you can make an argument that 4 & 5 ER in just 5 innings is blow-up start territory. So while there's no 6+ ER outings there, it's still cumulatively a 5.34 ERA. For me the argument isn't whether anyone's making fun of him or overstating how bad Suter is, the question is 'Can we do better than a 5.34 ERA from our #5 spot?' Obviously Stearns & CC believe the answer is Yes, & think Miley has a decent shot at producing better. Just to be transparent, I personally do think Suter lacks the raw stuff to be considered one of the best 5 SPs for a team that wants to seriously contend for the playoffs. If he's your 6th or 7th best SP, fine -- & to your initial point he will probably not go out & just get you killed in any given start.
  19. Locking this one. It's stayed mostly civil but this isn't going anywhere productive.

  21. Wow that's a quality stat, and I also totally agree with your final sentence there. Saw another stat that said Hader is the first pitcher to record 8 outs in a game in which every out recorded was a strikeout
  22. Because that would be a complete waste of his talent. Why limit him to just the 9th inning against whatever part of the order happens to be up. If your best relief pitcher is your closer it better be because he can't do more than just 1 inning at a time. Yeah, this game is perfect evidence of the value of not making your best RP a 'Closer'. The fireman role is back to life in Milwaukee! Can I get an 'Amen'?! a 'Danny Plesac'?!
