  1. That exposition would've been way better than the 30 minutes on Casino Free the Horses planet. I'm definitely stealing that
  2. Good catch, Eye Black. I hadn't noticed this.
  3. The neat part about this... is that you don't Let's keep this topic from devolving, folks. I agree that it's worthy of discussion, but it also isn't far from being too far gone to keep around imo.
  4. I believe that Snoke is not dead. How did Rey and Kylo keep their force connection after Snoke died (gotta love the tongue sticking out after he was chopped in half).Great point on that Force connection. Makes me wonder if maybe Snoke was someone's apprentice? And *that* Sith Lord was the one doing the Rey-Ren connection all along. There's also the moment where Snoke says he can see all of Ren's thoughts, but obviously doesn't see that Ren's rotating Anakin's lightsaber toward him. That's probably not right, & they just killed Snoke, & that's that. But fun to speculate.
  5. Cain to me is one to stay far away from. I like him as a player, but he's the type where you're almost certainly going to be paying him based on his best seasons, while he declines while you have him. Especially stay away if he'll be getting 4 years & about $15M per. No reason to commit so much of the payroll room we have for a player who relies a lot on speed & athleticism, to play out his age 32-35 seasons. This feels like a move the 2015 Tigers would've made. With Cain, I think of guys like Weeks & Gomez -- toolsy/athletic players that took a longer time to blossom... then burn brightly for a few seasons but fall off quickly.
  6. It's also possible the Brewers are just being used a a smokescreen for leverage. Everyone knows they're looking for another SP, & that they'd be able to spend. Though I do hope you're right about how the Gallardo & Chacin deals played out. I'd love for that to be Stearns's strategy. Just wait out the games of chicken, & sign the guys who settle for lesser deals. Overall, I'm just reminded day in & day out of Stearns's quote from December 9th: 7 days after that, he signed Gallardo, & 12 days after the quote he signed Chacin. I get that his quote could've just been posturing & trying to stay off the radar in terms of bigger-ticket players as well. I just think we're not seriously in on any of the high dollar value FAs. I think the big impact move will be a trade.
  7. Maybe the Brewers liked the prospects the Dodgers are letting them pick from for the PTBNL. If the Dodgers are making available guys comparable to the arms we got for Lind a couple years back (I realize we'd only be getting one PTBNL here), I'm fine with Stearns trying to nab another lottery ticket & see if they can find another Freddy Peralta.
  8. Picked up BF1 over the weekend, and very happy. Thanks for the recommendations guys!
  9. Agreed, great work!
  10. Yeah, with the current state of MLB salaries, "bargain" can only be used in a relative sense. And your point on these FAs' contract demands are probably precisely why they're locked into a game of chicken. I know his resume has its warts, but Chacin is looking like a steal at this point.
  11. Does BF1 have a single player campaign? WW1 would be a really interesting & new story to explore Yes. It's great, if not a little frustrating at times. Cool! Anyone have an opinion if the BF1 Revolution edition of the game is worth the extra ~$10? I wouldn't play multiplayer, but I think it includes some additional missions/levels? Or are they only for multiplayer? Thanks... probably going to pick this up over the weekend.
  12. MLBTR had a piece today with an interesting note about this. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/jake-arrieta-alex-cobb-free-agent.html
  13. I just got back from seeing TLJ in 3D. I typically don't care for 3D, but I thought this was well done. No gimmicky feeling like you're on a theme park ride, or stuff popping out of the screen at you. It wasn't perfect, but overall I enjoyed it (& I wasn't really expecting to). I still wouldn't ever want to have my first viewing of a movie to be in 3D, but it was good. So if you're a 3D pooh-pooer like me, & you liked TLJ, give it a chance. It was fun.
  14. Does BF1 have a single player campaign? WW1 would be a really interesting & new story to explore
  15. I also got a PS4 (on Black Friday), & apologies if this title has already been touched on, but man is Call of Duty WW2 good. I'm awful at online multiplayer shooters, so I'm still 'that guy' that likes a good single-player campaign. The story is well told, the action is great, and the game is just flat-out fun. I know WW2 games have been done almost to death, but imo this is a well-done iteration. There's a nice mix of styles of levels & combat. I've beaten the game but am replaying it. Highly recommended if WW2 shooters are your thing.
  16. And if the young arms Clancy is citing prove ready, then you also have the ability to flip Chacin for more prospects. Calling this "blowing $16M" is missing the forest for the trees.
  17. I like this concept. All of this is very subjective, but I definitely agree there's a difference between being one of the 32 best SPs, & that elite tier of SPs that are the real difference-makers come postseason time. For me, prime Nelson isn't close to prime Sheets. And I like Nelson.
  18. If I'm burning all those trade chips, I'd better be getting some top tier pitching
  19. I know this is a small sample (just 296 career PAs), but Miller Park has been Walker's best hitting venue, at least when you strip out ones where he has only a tiny amount of PAs. OPS+ of 128, with a line of .289/.361/.534/.895. There might be something to be said for his comfort level of hitting there. A Walker/Perez platoon should give you decent offense from 2B. I guess the question is whether it's worth spending 2/$20M-ish to re-sign Walker, & not just see if Villar can rediscover his stroke. My disclaimer is that I've liked Walker for a long time; always liked his PAs as a Pirate. I might not be unbiased here.
  20. Cole is a lifelong Yankees fan (grew up in NJ iirc). I bet it happens. But if it doesn't, he still interests me if the price is palatable.
  21. What I think is most likely (this is just me personally), is that Stearns sees this move as one with good potential at having really good value -- mostly independent on whatever other moves unfold or don't unfold this offseason. There's very little risk for the Brewers in this deal. They have enough payroll flexibility that if Chacin crashes & burns, you suffer through it & stash him in the 'pen (or grin & bear him in the rotation if you're not contending & he's not blocking anyone). But if they can mine some more success out of him, and now let's say he puts up an ERA in the 3.50-3.75 range -- now he's either a steal for our rotation at $7-8M AAV, or you have a really valuable & affordable trade asset to flip. What if they wind up being able to turn Chacin into an Isan Diaz+ type of return? That's worth easily more than $15M, & I like that risk/reward gamble as a strategy. I'd much rather see the club take risks like this than invest more in older, pricier SP FAs (like a Lynn or a Garza). Not saying you're arguing for that, but it's the next most comparable type of move. We just signed this guy for what Swarzak got to throw 60-70 innings per season.
  22. I'm a hard core SW fan, and liked it but didn't love it on the first viewing. Felt the same way walking out of the theater as I did walking out of Rogue One (which I then absolutely loved on a second viewing). After a second viewing of TLJ, I absolutely loved it, too. Yes there are some things I didn't love (I agree a bit about the casino sequence feeling 'off'), but overall I thought it was great.
  23. Quick links for Chacin... can't say I'm too familiar with him either. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/chacijh01.shtml http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2608&position=P Looks like a back of rotation type. At least per FanGraphs, his slider grades out as a very effective pitch. Sinker/Slider combo guy, looks like he started throwing the sinker a lot more last season, same for the slider. Does Stearns see a guy who's reinvented himself a bit? PetCo was very kind to him last year, though, his road #s were brutal. Maybe a 2 or 3-yr deal for ages 30-31/32?
  24. I guess I don't understand either. Should we blame David Stearns for our lack of success in the late 90's when Stearns was 12-13 years old? Generally speaking, sure we can be tired of 30+ years of a lot of nothing as fans.... but that has nothing to do with our current GM or current situation and using that as a base for being upset for not going after a free agent(s), if you are implying that, is kind of silly I think. If you are not implying that, then this is the wrong forum for that thought. This is a rumor and proposal board. General venting should be done elsewhere. I think the discussion here fits ok. I get your point though. We used to have dedicated venting threads in the MLB forum, and they inevitably always went poorly, some iterations quicker than others. Since, as a community, BF decided to not do the dedicated vent thread thing anymore, I don't see a problem with this thread. The discussion has been civil, and there's really not a significantly better place for this topic to live -- since it's about being impatient or patient about the number of moves this offseason. Maybe other mods feel differently, and I hope they chime in if they do. I think this discussion is in the right forum, & not straying anywhere near the levels of toxicity we'd see in the dedicated vent threads.
  25. I'm another who appreciates Stearns's approach & willingness to wait things out. I don't think our season will come down to one relief pitcher spot. That said, yes it's also boring since we don't get to know the conversations going on behind the scenes. I bet there are plenty of exciting discussions so far with teams about trades, & with free agents. Someone mentioned it already, but Stearns seems to keep things very quiet, which is another thing I like about him.
