  1. I completely agree that Green should be on the MLB roster. Its not as if Aram is going to play 162 games, and Weeks shouldn't either. This nails the entire situation imo. Green, unfortunately, is likely to have plenty of chances at playing time due to the injury concerns with Weeks & Am-Ram.
  2. My answer: absolutely not My guess: he'll play long enough, a la Craig Biggio, to pile up the counting stat of 3,000 hits, & get voted in undeservedly I do want to say, though, that I love these types of discussions.
  3. I thought it was great. One thing that stuck out to me was that there was as little reference as possible made to Braun's saga this offseason. When the studio host made a point to mention (relatively early on) that Braun turned down the program's request for an interview, I instantly worried that MLB was going to use its network as a bully pulpit. Thankfully, they did the exact opposite, & I did gain a bit more respect for MLB/MLB Network due to that. Overall, it was great. The series itself is such a great idea, & MLBN has executed it well (this isn't the first 30/30 episode I've watched). The MLB Network is fantastic overall, so far. My favorite one-liner was Rickie Weeks answering Mitch Williams's question of 'who's the cheapest guy on the team?' Rickie paused, & then asked, "Per capita?" ... not exactly the phrase Rickie was looking for, but you get what he meant. That cracked me up. His pick was Braun, although I have to say Corey & Randy Wolf lobbied pretty strongly for Greinke. Corey actually said he though Zack might be the cheapest player in baseball. Wolf made a wisecrack about how set Greinke is going to be, come retirement, & how he's going to be able to ensure he can pay for his great-great grandkids' college tuition. Funny stuff -- this is really a special group imo in terms of chemistry.
  4. I swear there was a great thread about this from 2011, where the thread's OP was asking people to help find the best songs that build up gradually & then explode. I'm posting this in the hopes that someone else will remember specifically enough to actually search the OT forum & find said thread EDIT: Hahaha... I just assumed searching "songs build up" wouldn't yield any results. Fortunately, the thread was conveniently titled, "Best songs that build up"
  5. You forgot the caps lock. I think we can all forgive you... this time. Ha... it appears that post in the midst of supreme frustration will follow me around forever. Well, I think I'm about the only one who still posts about it... so I'll stop I just always chuckle a little whenever I read a post from you, anytime after you'd made the ORIGINAL POST, so that's why I haven't been able to let it go.
  6. PDSDNK
  7. Creighton was blatantly dirty tonight. They were hacking Henson's wrist all night. Grant Gibbs winks at his coach after hacking Henson's bad wrist and drawing a T from Henson. It was pretty clear part of their plan was to get him out of the game. Yeah, after seeing that crap, I was instantly rooting for UNC... which is probably about the first time in my life I've ever rooted for them
  8. I'm itching for this Marquette-Murray St. game to start. It's going to have the kind of pace that will make you tired just watching. And UW-Vanderbilt... I hope the Badgers remember to keep moving on offense, because Vandy has perimeter players who are probably still going to be able to create their own shots, so the Badgers probably won't be able to just defend their way through Vandy.
  9. No, EY Jr. has not, in either the minors or majors.
  10. Yep, I was trying to talk to Clark last night through my TV & let him know he was giving the incorrect rule explanation to the national audience. For some reason, he couldn't hear me.
  11. Wow, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions so thoroughly, owbc
  12. Well MLBTR linked to the wrong EY. They're discussing his son, EY Jr., but linked to his dad's B-Ref. page. Here is Jr.'s B-Ref. page, but he's never recorded any playing time at SS, either in the majors or minors. Whoever the Brewers would pursue to basically not be Izturis would have to be someone who could realistically man SS. I don't think that's any one of Miles, Lopez, EY Jr., Burriss, or Murphy.
  13. Were lane violations actually not called earlier in the UNC-A/Syracuse game? I admit I'd never noticed perimeter lane violations prior to this weekend
  14. Thank you, owbc. In an area like WI which is favored for warming it is a little more. What does "favored for warming" mean, in a layman's or idiot's sense? So you can't even conclusively say that this warm winter is because of global warming. That's pretty incredible. Scientific agreement on global warming & its main cause... even my own experience that this winter 'seems' like the warmest & strangest I've seen in my lifetime, & we can't be certain the two are related.
  15. But the lane violation was a lane violation. It's not like a ref can just look the other way intentionally & in good conscience, 'just because'. Mistakes happen, of course, but no mistake was made on that call (or the same call that went against Notre Dame tonight).
  16. What I specifically responded to was, "There was no evidence that Lawrie would have been ready in 2011", not "spring '11". Not admonishing you refining your point, just clarifying.
  17. 1) There was no evidence that Lawrie would have been ready in 2011. Aside from scouting, which is what should always be used first with young players, not stats.
  18. Schafer on the other hand could be forcing their hands a bit. At 26 (he'll be 27 in September) does it make any sense to have him sit in AAA at the expense of Nyjer Morgan? Morgan is a good major league player, but he's not Prince Fielder either. Fielder would block anyone, but not so much Morgan. If you really project Schafer to be an everyday major league CF, now (or by June at the latest) is the time to put him out there. I think you're right, & it really seems that Doug Melvin freezes when faced with what to do about a young player who's looking ready for MLB. If he can learn to not panic about young players, the Brewers currently have a lot of guys who could cheaply fill the complementary roles. But instead, he spends millions on a player in Aoki that he hadn't even sent a scout to see?
  19. I think you hit the nail on the head with the Kotsay-role note. The thing I like about Aoki is that he's actually going to be good to have playing defense, and he'll probably be able to hit like Kotsay in a worst-case scenario. But I also agree with you that it's far more likely that he's going to turn in solid at-bats, as he has his whole career. Morgan is proof that you don't need to have tons of raw power or a huge BB rate to be an effective (complementary) hitter. I think "most" here have been advocating Gomez as the small half of a CF platoon for some time now.
  20. owbc, can you comment any further on this winter -- Wisconsin specifically, or in broader terms as well? This: Here in South Florida it has also been a warm winter. Only 2-3 cold fronts strong enough to cause sweater weather. Opposite story in eastern Europe. The jet stream has been very high amplitude the last few winters. Lots of debate over whether that is a consequence of global warming or not--specifically the huge reduction in sea ice over the arctic. It's a big experiment and there will be plenty more data soon since it's obvious that the ice isn't coming back. Ice loss is 30 years ahead of the "worst case scenario" from the 2007 IPCC report. Will be interesting to see the political reaction to the next report in 2014, sooner or later the evidence will be impossible for even the most ardent deniers to ignore was startling to read. I've been aware in a general sense that the large ice sheets & glaciers are shrinking at a rapid pace, but I had no idea it was that bad .
  21. What I think makes things even trickier for Melvin is the handedness of Weeks & Gonzalez. Not only is there not a huge crop of viable backup MLB middle infielders, now he might feel compelled to narrow the field down to guys who are lefties or switch hitters.
  22. Yeah, the infamous Zambrano-for-Kazmir trade comes to mind when I think about Lawrie-Marcum. Now, of course Marcum is better than Zambrano was, but I think Lawrie is going to wind up being better than Kazmir was, too.
  23. That's very good to hear. I'd like to imagine Melvin will investigate organizations like the Braves (Simmons/Pastornicky), who have multiple near-MLB ready prospects, and look for a longer-term solution at SS. But, since it's Melvin, I'll just wait to hear what fringe veterans he's been asking around about.
  24. EYES That's my new favorite. This is $10.5M minimum (4 seasons), $21.75M max (6 seasons). Assuming Escobra stays healthy for at least 5 of those 6 seasons, I'd imagine the Royals will be happy to have him at $3.6M AAV until he's 30.
  25. Obviously we've made it to Spring, but I had to scratch my Brewers itch tonight, & dug around the MLB.com video highlights... Fever-inducing clip #1 Fever-inducing clip #2 Those are two of my favorite (if not my two favorites, period) HRs from last season. Must be how much of laser-beams they both were. That Weeks HR could be the hardest-hit ball I've ever seen.
