  1. In all, I don't expect much more than a slight upgrade over Yuni. I hope that I'm wrong. I think this is a good approach for setting expectations. Although I do think the glove alone will make him at least feel like a massive upgrade from Yuni.
  2. I was happy for Kevin Stallings after Vandy won the SEC crown. I really can't understand how a guy like Calipari has cheated at every major job he's had, & he still gets hired to big-money deals & is praised by commentators. Then you have a guy like Stallings. Cool to see.
  3. Yeah that one cracked me up, too
  4. Yeah, the way Marcum fell apart at the end of last season certainly seems like it could've been due to injury. This is the guy who said in '11 ST he wouldn't report the kind of shoulder soreness he had that ST if it had been the regular season. So did he try to gut his way through the playoffs & pitch with an injury?
  5. MLB wants fans to feel good about their draft picks, which of course is just good business. Pretty much every top prospect ranker has very good things to say about Jungmann. It seems like he's starting the season on most of the top 100 lists. You seem to be basing your opinion of him mostly on his last few starts of the college season. The reason I paid more attention to this PG review is that Patrick (colby) has been very fair in his prospect evals, & the comments about Gennett & Jungmann were the first in-depth analyses I'd seen on either guy beyond stats or Jungmann's delivery. I'm assuming colby's colleague at PG would be objective as well. Patrick was specifically held off doing the Brewers' top 10 list precisely because he's a Brewers fan. I don't see a fan bias.
  6. I didn't take it as discouraging, just him being honest. That made me feel a little more optimistic. He also talked about how he wasn't thrilled by the idea of trying to negotiate with a lot of FA suitors prior to having to get ready for another season, and FA can back fire and that "you would have been better off signing with your team." I read this as him saying that the Brewers are going to approach him with an extension offer, and if he likes it, there's a decent chance he'd sign.' I think if the Brewers offer him a deal like LAA gave Jered Weaver, it would be really close to getting something done.
  7. Yeah, this comment & this thread are just painful. It's so good to know those days are long gone.
  8. This says it so well. Agree 100% with this.
  9. I couldn't agree more. And he might actually already be the second-best CF defender in the organization, and there's some pretty good competition with Aoki & Morgan in the mix.
  10. Hah, the aquarium wall behind home plate is for real. That's incredible. The left field bleacher area looks designed for adding more seats if needed. And the centerfield... thing... looks like Loria lost an expensive bet to someone, or an odd attempt at psychological warfare.
  11. I love ST partly because it puts in perspective just how small the gap is between minor leaguers & big-leaguers. Guys like Schafer and Gindl step in and play well, because that's what they usually do. I wish the notion that prospects need handling with kid-gloves could be put to rest in the Milwaukee front office. At the very least, Roenicke really seems to be well-informed about the younger guys. That makes me feel like there's hope.
  12. Thanks for the detailed recap of the new Miami park, owbc. Good read, & looking forward to the pics.
  13. Great commercial, but it almost seems like cruel & unusual punishment!
  14. Skin color aside, he really reminds me of Weeks as a hitter. A little less raw power, but similarly quiet yet explosive swings imo. And, as you hinted, any RH hitter who puts up the kind of numbers he has with PNC Park as his home looks pretty dang legit.
  15. For all the crap the Brewers' medical staff has taken in the past (in some cases rightfully so), this was a huge catch by Dr. Raasch, et al. Glad to hear the surgery went so well; it's amazing to me that all the tears Corey described will only amount to missing about a month.
  16. Knowing Melvin & Greinke, there will be absolutely zero news about any contract talks. If they agree on an extension, the announcement is going to be one helluva nice surprise.
  17. I think the Pirates have been moving in the right direction ever since they hired Huntington as GM. Imo they're definitely going to be a serious contender in the division before long.
  18. Stats aren't the main reason why Gennett was ranked where he was, I thought that was pretty obvious from reading the entry on Gennett. I agree with you about having Schafer ahead of Gennett, fwiw.
  19. I like Kintzler too, but I don't think there's much chance he doesn't get stashed at AAA. It's just how Melvin does things, doesn't matter if Kintzler is a better option than anyone else. Plus, coming off of a significant injury, there might also be legit reasons to start him off at AAA.
  20. Link I'm not sure if he was a super-two guy or not, but if not he would've entered his first arbitration season in 2013. So the Pirates get at least two seasons of FA in exchange for McCutchen's financial security.
  21. I caught this game (from bot. 5th on) on the late-night replay on the MLB network. First, I'd like to mention what a great broadcast the Giants have, starting with Krukow & Kuiper -- those guys are phenomenal imo. I don't know that there was any standout player for Milwaukee, but Wheeler's HR was really a solid knock. Schafer's basket catch in left-center was a thing of beauty, and the Brewers as a team turned in pretty good PAs -- Kjeldgaard had one later in the game that resulted in a K, but was still a good PA with several pitches fouled off 'well' (if that's possible, I believe it is). Also, the Giants might have the funniest/most entertaining bullpen with Affeldt, Romo, & Wilson. The first two did in-dugout interviews after their appearances, & were great to listen to.
  22. You forgot the caps lock. I think we can all forgive you... this time.
  23. i'll be putting my work in a major bind, but that's their problem, i guess. If your employer felt it could improve its bottom line (without any major headaches) by firing you, I seriously doubt a sense of loyalty would save your job. Do not feel bad about making your life & situation better. Ever.
  24. Edit 7: I'm glad I still have fun at age 31. And by fun I mean drinking to excess and thinking pepper spray is hilarious. Edit 8:: Pepperspray is funny but it hurts. Video to folloow. Wow. This post definitely has me hoping for more.
