  1. LaRussa's another Italian surname... just sayin'!
  2. I admit I'm playing devil's advocate here with just as little evidence as anyone else really knows at this point, but I don't think it's fair to assume everything is as simple as we the masses are assuming they were. To think that an employee contracted by MLB for an incredibly serious operation would bring his 'fandom' into it, or whatever else people want to imply here, just is too cynical even for a cynic like me.
  3. With Yunel signed through 2015, obviously someone has to go. Meanwhile, Toronto doesn't have much in the outfield besides Bautista -- Hart makes them a lot better offensively. Understood, however the Blue Jays would have a lot of teams interested in Escobar given his service time & production. They could probably do better, in terms of long-term value, than Hart. Using WAR, at least, Escobar for Hart is a pretty fair deal, salaries notwithstanding. It's possible that in such a deal, we might have to throw in a prospect to get it done, but if there's a gap, it's minimal. I think you're downplaying the difference in salary/service time/team salary control too much. That, imo, is the whole discussion And fwiw, yes I do think Hart+[?] could work for Escobar. But I think you'd be looking at something like Thornburg as the "+ [?]" piece
  4. Fwiw, in the Ken Rosenthal article linked earlier in this thread... EDIT: annnnnd from the Passan article for Yahoo, that Tailgat0r76 just linked... Soooo... nevermind
  5. Watch the video interview I linked to in the 'Prince signs with DET' thread. His comments about (not) following the Brewers this season were in exactly the same vein as that response about the Braun vindication. In short, it's looking like we liked him because he was "our" ... [not-nice-dude]. He's all business when it comes to baseball, for better and worse. If roles were reversed, you can bet Braun would have had some words of support for Prince.
  6. It still never ceases to amaze me that people are surprised when ESPN plays the part of sensationalist/yellow 'journalism'. It's what they do, simply said. Aside from the broadcasts of actual games, I haven't watched ESPN in years. It's not hard to do, and you don't have to listen to insufferable nonsense.
  7. I don't think the Brewers could even trade Aoki right away, since he's a newly-signed FA. I admit, though, that I don't know for sure... and I definitely don't have time to go dig for that answer right now. But iirc, they'd have to wait until the deadline that's set for newly-signed FAs... and again I don't recall what that is. #2 - Yunel is reasonably signed for $5M a year through 2015, so it solves our SS problem not just now but for the long haul. Why would this make sense for Toronto, though? Hart is only signed through 2013, and plays a position at which it's far easier to find offense. And since I think that proposal slants so heavily in favor of the Brewers, yes, I'd do it But I just don't see why Toronto would.
  8. I have an incredibly hard time believing that there was any intentional foul play involved here. And I also think it's pretty shameful that this thread exists here. EDIT: to clarify, I have nothing but respect for the OP, JET15. I just think it's the kind of thing that BF.net has always strived to stay above.
  9. No, I think you're right. But it's an image thing for MLB, so the more people talking about how 'this is the first time the program has ever been proven wrong!', the better MLB looks.
  10. Excellent point. As we've learned through Lester Munson and Will Carroll's interviews this morning, it's not just that it was sitting around for a while. Braun's attorneys were actually able to replicate the results, which is huge. Well, isn't a HR technically just a long fly-out that happens to clear the outfield wall? So TECHNICALLY, yeah it's a homer. But isn't it really just an out that the pitcher had robbed from him due to the confinements of the process of playing in a fenced stadium? I guess Chris Narveson really said it best with, "If somebody mishandles a sample, that’s not just a technicality, that’s an error" The 'OMG he's such a cheater!' crap has gotten even more out of hand than I ever thought it could, and frankly I was expecting a lot of it after hearing the decision yesterday.
  11. Sounds excellent, kalle8! I hope you have a great time honeymooning in America ... and, specifically, enjoying possibly your only trip to Miller Park! And actually, that makes me think that you should contact the Brewers (if you haven't already) to inform them of the specific circumstances surrounding your visit. I'd think they'd have at least a little something extra to offer you (ballpark tour?, etc.), and there's a chance they might really view it as a good PR move to hype up the visit from a native Italian who fell in love with the Brewers, an ocean away.
  12. Heh, I had to chuckle when I read this. Sayonara, WMLW.
  13. Well the length of hair on whoever's head that is is about exactly how long I'd expect Prince's hair to be, if taken out of the rows & brushed out.
  14. 13-min. interview with Prince at the Tigers' ST facility, via Detroit's ABC affiliate Be sure to click on the second of the two videos featured on this link for the full interview; the first video is a condensed version of the interview (& I'm assuming what they ran on-air)
  15. Hah! I just noticed this post now.
  16. Well if that's true, then looks like I need to apologize for being Mr. Know-it-all, and ... *shudder* ... read the new CBA. So do I understand this correctly -- that, even though there was a leak from within MLB that made this case public knowledge, the reason MLB would be obligated to remain silent is that the entire process is supposed to be secret? In other words, even though the cat's out of the bag, MLB has to finish this out as though there had been no leak in the first place? I meant that this is MLB's program, not Ryan Braun's... and obviously I thought whatever decision reached by MLB's program/process would be the league's news to announce, one way or the other. Also, I need to go back to not posting in this thread at all. I was eating far less foot & crow that way.
  17. Why isn't it? Because it's not the RBBL anti-doping process that's been under review here, it's MLB's. If there's a press conference to announce the decision here, it will be arranged by MLB, perhaps even the MLBPA, too... but not Braun. If the Brewers &/or Braun want to put together a presser for Braun to field questions after the decision/verdict has been reached, then obviously they can do that.
  18. I admit I didn't read the WSJ article, but did I comprehend the thread correctly that WAR +/- was the rationale in ranking the offseasons? Because the WARs the Brewers are adding in Gamel, Green, etc. are super-high...
  19. Braun will absolutely not be the one breaking this news. This is a differing opinion to a lot of people here. Many have said that if Braun wins the appeal MLB will not be the one breaking that news but it will be Braun breaking that news. Not sure why you seem so certain MLB would break the news of someone winning an appeal against them This isn't a civil court case, Braun v. MLB, this is a review of one instance/usage of a MLB program/policy. The news isn't Braun's to announce, it is either MLB's or the arbiter's (which, by extension would be via MLB). It's funny to me to think that, in a case largely centered around the leaking of private information, people think Braun would leak the results of the appeal. MLB isn't just going to delegate Braun to be their PR rep for this & tell him to go ahead & be the one to announce the news, that's absurd imo. My guess will be that, if Braun is suspended, MLB will hold a press conference... and if he's not, the news will be sent out via press release.
  20. Braun will absolutely not be the one breaking this news.
  21. It is, but there's no corresponding advantage gained by the NL team. Big Papi instantly becomes the best PH either team has, & by a country mile. The NL's pitcher still has to hit, & they don't get to add an incredible hitter to their bench like the Red Sox do (in your example).
  22. - Yeah, definitely go to Irish Fest for at least a little bit. It's a good way to experience the Summerfest grounds & the cool atmosphere, live music, etc. - I'll second the Door County idea (link for a location; it's the whole peninsula, basically), but it's about a 2.5 hour drive from Milwaukee, if that matters. Like RD45 suggested, getting a room at one of the many B&B's up there and spending a night would be a good honeymoon activity. And swinging through Green Bay to at least take a look at Lambeau Field on the way back to Milwaukee wouldn't be much of a detour at all. - And even though I'm suggesting this to a native Italian, I think you'd have fun in trying one of Milwaukee's famous German restaurants. Either Mader's or Karl Ratzsch's would be the places to go. It's awesome that you're going to make sure to experience some tailgating... it really is a great time. And I'm guessing you'll get multiple offers to join up with people in this thread!
  23. This is mustache-related, so I'm posting it here. Preston Mattingly needs to grow a mustache, if only for a brief time. He looks exactly like his dad. http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.1022696.1329268380!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_635/image.jpg
  24. Or he could have been referring to how Hart is aging poorly, physically (at least athleticism- and speed-wise), not statistically.
