  1. Depth is always, always, always a good thing. Sorry to see this injury to Corey, but I'm glad the Brewers have Aoki in the mix as well as Gindl & Schafer. You'd be right, but they still have a surplus of left handed bats, and now they are critically short on right handed bats. If only RH-hitting corner outfielders were relatively cheap & easy to find
  2. If you haven't already, I recommend you read the Perfect Game top 10 prospects list for the Brewers that Colby linked in this subforum. Colby's colleague, who rated the Brewers' top 10, had a completely different take from yours on Jungmann's less than stellar K rate in college last season: "Another very encouraging thing for Jungmann’s future is the adjustments that he made last year after the introduction of the new bats in college baseball. He began pitching to contact more aggressively instead of going after strikeouts, an adjustment that often takes pitchers years in the minors to fully make."
  3. This made me laugh out loud. Well played. I was really bummed to learn about Corey's injury, but thankfully it's not any worse than a month or so. The depth the Brewers have in the OF should help ease the pain of this loss, and the defense will actually be a lot better for the short term.
  4. Wow, I've heard all about the impeccable perfection that is a Jerry Narron lineup card, but now I get it. And totally agree on writing out Aoki's name properly, that's just delicious icing on a lineup cake made of awesome.
  5. I said Selig's postseason 'tweaks' in general have diminished the regular season, not that this specific change makes a huge impact in that regard. But yes, it does that as well, since the 'last team in' isn't really necessarily the last team in anymore. Think it would've been fun if the '08 Brewers would've had to play a one-game elimination 'series' after working their butts off & dramatically winning the Wild Card? Me neither.
  6. The only thing I can possibly guess is the assumption that Rodgers would be hanging out with a 'juicer'. Aside from that, I've got nothin'
  7. Bravo to PG for a very good first crack at MiLB team-by-team top prospect rankings. I'll have to check out the other organizations' rankings, too. He didn't state it, but I'm sure if you asked him he would tell you that he would expect Gennett's plate discipline to improve as he progresses. I definitely read that as being implied in his bit on Gennett as well. That is without a doubt, the single most glowing scouting report/prospect review I've seen on Gennett so far. Though I do have to question whatever source David used to get that Scooter is 5'10" & 165 lbs . I admittedly haven't seen him in person since the 2010 season, but then he looked closer to 5'7" & 140 lbs. than 5'10"/165 (I literally did a double-take at how small he was the first time I saw him play in person). I see Baseball Reference currently has him listed at 5'9"/164, but B-Ref's player page weights are notoriously unreliable. I've really liked him as a hitter since his HS days as well, and was pretty excited when they signed him a couple of year ago. I'd probably put Green and Thornburg ahead of him, but it's hard to argue against that placement. Interesting, and I appreciate your feedback.
  8. It's so sad to me that MLB's apparent goal for the postseason under Selig is to make the regular season as meaningless as possible. Except for the ASG... 'this one counts'. Ugh. What's next, your ST record determines how many home games you get to play in a season? I really wish the leagues would go back to two divisions, one LCS round & then the WS. Imho the importance of the regular season needs to be magnified, not diminished. Almost any team could beat any other team in a given 5- or 7-game series.
  9. Pre-reading reaction: Ooh, a Brewers prospect rankings list I can actually get excited about Post-reading: - This is the most bullish report I've seen on Gennett. Patrick, are you as optimistic as your colleague seems to be? For better or worse, David seems to skip right over Gennett's lack of plate discipline, or at least his poor BB/K ratio thus far. And while citing some strong physical tools, there's also no mention of Gennett's (widely-considered-to-be) subpar defense at 2B. - I'm officially excited about Brooks Hall; really encouraging profile on him at #10 - The quality of this report as a whole is really refreshing. This definitely isn't your stock 'stats & hearsay' prospect list.
  10. Yeah, I actually thought Hammer's comment about 6th grade-caliber stuff described pretty well why I don't like Facebook as a whole.
  11. Yeah and designated runners so that DHs don't strain their hamstrings or hurt themselves running the bases and a designated catcher to throw the ball back to the pitcher and to second base so no catcher hurts himself throwing the ball. How about designated bunters so that none of the important players get hurt. Maybe one day we'll just have an offense and a defense (8 men each). Clearly the AL is just slow-playing this sinister plot to ruin baseball. Almost there to 40 years since the advent of the DH... now no one will see the d-fielder & d-runner rules coming!
  12. I just wanted to express how frustrated and disappointed I am that some of the magic of the 2011 season seems to have been flushed down the toilet. I'm sorry this is how you feel.
  13. Saw this on reddit today (older post, though)... an avatar waiting to happen: http://i.imgur.com/t3Gy3.jpg
  14. Yeah, the guy was incredible. He seemed to always get overlooked imo... whether it was from playing in Houston, or later playing in NY & not being Mo Rivera.
  15. Keep in mind Passan basically stole a FanGraphs article & posted it as his own last season, so this isn't exactly Mr. Ethics. I did not know that. Any more specifics? I'll have to do some digging. A quick MLB forum search (I posted about it when it happened) didn't yield any results. EDIT: Crap. I got my national MLB writers confused. It was Jon Paul Morosi (Fox Sports), not Passan. Fwiw, here is the thread where it was discussed. My apologies to Jeff Passan, a man of deep understanding & benevolence... as Ryan Braun can attest first-hand.
  16. Holy crap, what happened? Did he take a liner off the face?
  17. This post. Is golden. Definitely got me laughing.

  19. I wonder if the Astros tried to move Meyers this offseason as a SP & there was no market for him. If that's the case, I could see trying him as a RP/CP & seeing if the extra velocity turns him into a desirable trade chip.
  20. I'm certainly not going to be in attendance, but I'm betting there will be some BF.netters there. If you have pictures, firsthand reports on MiLB Brewers, etc., it would be cool to see them.
  21. So you believe the yellow journalism approach in this case seems more credible than someone providing very specific details about the case, and who hasn't been clamoring for months & weeks about Braun's 'obvious' guilt? Not to mention that this specific "someone" is a guy who's done a lot of reporting on the medical side of things in MLB. This "something really convincing" was reported by Carroll -- it was Braun's legal team being able to replicate the extreme results through improper care of a test sample. That was what Carroll (in a radio interview w/WEEI Boston) specifically cited as being a/the main influencing factor in this decision.
  22. To me, the biggest thing to be concerned about is how MLB was still trying to ram this suspension through (& its subsequent whining after the decision was reached), even though there was strong evidence to show that the process wasn't carried out properly. I think there's a lot of assumption going on that Braun really has any real vindictive thoughts about the collector's role in the process (and good post in that vein, gregmag).
  23. If I were Melvin, I'd at least test the market to see what Morgan would bring in, and if a deal can be struck, then I'd place Aoki into the role Morgan played in 2011, while picking up a veteran RH bat. Unfortunately, I think if the bolded part were true, the answer would be, "I'd be paralyzed by fear of trading a 'proven' player like Morgan for an unproven guy in Aoki... a guy who I didn't even bother to scout before signing to a multi-year contract." Believe me, monty, in this instance, I definitely wish you were "Melvin" instead of it actually being Melvin as GM. However, as it stands, I think the Brewers will keep both Aoki & Morgan, and Aoki will wind up buried on the bench unless Morgan starts the season ice-cold & Aoki replaces him & hits a lot right away. In other words, Aoki is pretty expensive injury depth & overall depth. Frustrating thought.
