  1. Well either way, it's great for ESPN. If Braun is in fact suspended, well, they knew all along! Worldwide Leader! And if he's exonerated, OMG THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN MLB! (even though it has)
  2. If ever there were a sign you should just retire, getting called a poor man's Yuni would be it
  3. WMLW said they were going to HD prior to the 2011 season, too, didn't they?
  4. I might have to hop on the Marquette bandwagon this year
  5. It's great to hear that there's so much willingness to contribute so far, in just the first few responses. Let's see how many people, over the course of the next week or so, want to contribute for the 2012 L.R.'s. After we have a good idea of who's 'in', we can start to divide the workload.
  6. In short, we the MiLB forum readers have to be the ones to keep the Link Report going. Jim (MassHaas) obviously did an amazing job over the years, but more specifically, he was doing the work of multiple people imo. Even last year, when Jim & Erik (Sessile Fielder) took most of the full-season squads, & I chipped in with mostly the short-season clubs, more help would've been useful. My thought here is if we create some form of 'paint-by-numbers' type guide to crafting the Link Report posts, anyone who's feeling up to it at the time could contribute with a L.R. post (or L.R. posts). Sometimes the games don't end or start until odd times, due to rain delays or rescheduling, etc. I know I often had to stay up waiting for one of the AZL or Helena games to finish, when I otherwise would've been done had the game started on schedule. If any interested MiLB forum reader could simply jump in & pick up the slack on any un-link-reported game, the workload would just be a lot less. There are seven MiLB squads to cover. AAA, AA, A+, & A- are full season leagues. Helena (Rookie), AZL, & DSL are short-season leagues. Imo with seven volunteers -- one for each level -- the Link Report would be fairly easy to keep alive. I've only spoken with Erik very, very briefly about the future of the Link Report, and this idea I'm proposing here is solely my own. I should also add that I shouldn't hold any more sway in this decision than any other MiLB forum user... last summer was the only L.R. work I've done, & it was very part-time duty. Whatever decision is reached on the L.R. would be best if it came from a majority of the posters on this forum.
  7. I generally come to the Minor League thread first myself. Ditto, & ditto to TC07's comments about the discussions being better on the MiLB forum. I'm sure it won't be exactly the same, but more of this simply falls on us for the content. And I think this is the real answer to 'what about the link report?' If we want it to continue, we the MiLB readers are going to have to contribute & make it happen. If the L.R. duties are shared between several people (as opposed to centralized with two or three people), it should be do-able. I think this warrants a separate discussion, honestly, because the L.R. has been such an invaluable part of the BF.net MiLB experience.
  8. I choose to believe that "Tyler" is Tyler Houston.
  9. I think you mean Diamondbacks/Rockies. Went their last year for a Brewers-Rockies game, and was extremely impressed. The ChiSox share their (very well-recieved) facility with the Dodgers, another NL West team name that starts with "D"... so jerichoholic could've meant that, too
  10. I'd guess the talent level would be something equivalent to a midpoint between AA & AAA in the US (think guys we'd label as AAAA types). I don't disagree that Cespedes could wind up being well overhyped.
  11. I almost don't believe my eyes as I'm typing this, but the Brewers have a really good pitching staff again. There's talent, & there's depth. I guess I'm glad the Brewers won the arbitration case... not that big of a deal though. Just good to be able to head all-out into ST now!
  12. This sells Cuban baseball way too short imo. It's not MLB, but it's definitely not like A-ball. Beane has 'street cred' with the baseball crowd. Stats really don't have anything to do with this signing, so of course no one is trying to use them to justify anything. This is all about scouting, just like the Reds signing Aroldis Chapman.
  13. Gindl also didn't display good power outside of the west-coast PCL locales in 2011 iirc. I believe he's going to show that he's got legit power this season, but his otherwise impressive OPS from '11 was definitely inflated largely by the west coast parks.
  14. Also went with the Blu-Ray idea... but Adele's concert at Royal Albert Hall. EDIT: Also, someone needs to step up & remember to bump this thread... in, oh, say mid-January 2013
  15. How have I avoided learning this up until now? Crazy.
  16. The Brewers must be really tight on cash if they're basically going to arbitration with Veras over $187,500.
  17. I think (emphasis on not being certain) I've read questions about Peralta's FB being pretty straight. Maybe someone else can confirm or deny that.
  18. I have tickets for the exhibition on 3/7 (just three weeks away!). They are letting 15,000 fans in for games against Miami and FIU (the first game is actually a high school game on 3/5). At that time I will take pictures and report back to BF.net on the stadium. I am very much looking forward to it. Looking forward to seeing some pics
  19. Hot dang! Even sooner!
  20. Wow, the backstop wall behind HP is going to be an aquarium? That's pretty cool.
  21. It'll be interesting to see how well Cespedes's game translates not only to MLB, but to one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the whole league. If anyone was bear-ish on projecting him, as a hitter, when he was a free agent without a team, I can't imagine the projection would be very pretty with half of his home games at the Coliseum. I agree with the others here so far... very unexpected signing. I understand many baseball fans have turned Billy Beane into a scapegoat for why new baseball stats are dumb, but I always enjoy following the moves he makes. Definitely very different style from a Doug Melvin, for example. Beane seems to have the luxury of good job security, which he's taken advantage of by making moves that seem to be more about long-term sustainability than the short-term.
  22. My sources tell me Lance Allen is confirming that's 25 business days.
  23. Is my math right in saying there's just 11 days left until Ps & Cs report?
  24. Agreed, CAPS was more appropriate. I hope Cespedes ends up being MLB's version of KIMBO SLICE! IT'S BACK, BABY!
  25. Yeah, I played around to try & alter that too, brett, obviously with no luck. Also, I think I can sheepishly admit that my favorite part of the move away from Yuku thus far is that I can actually use the baseball 'new post' icon
