  1. Germany have been very impressive this WC. At this point, they probably deserve to win it just based on how overpowering they've been.
  2. I would hope the Brewers wouldn't release him, that would absolutely be cold. I believe uwisfan's response was to Jason's comment, not the Brewers outrighting Angel off the 40-man.
  3. Couldn't the Bucks just sign Mike Kelley?
  4. Doesn't the fact that this supposedly grown man chooses to go by "Sparky" basically invalidate any kind of rumor he might throw out there? Aside from my distaste for the nickname, I don't think one credible thing has come from this radio show. His job is to draw attention to the show, so he does with this ridiculous nonsense.
  5. It's encouraging to see that they're listening to offers on someone/some guys. Makes me think Melvin is aware that he should be a seller, and soon.
  6. The Reds will probably get Volquez back in August sometime. Iirc that's when he was scheduled to get back from his surgery. Does his suspension kick in once he's back active on the 25-man roster, or what? If they get him even for just part of September & he's himself, that's a huge addition for them. EDIT: Annnnd, nope. He's basically ready to come back now. Via Rotoworld, he's making one more rehab start on Sunday, and will basically be ready to rock after that: Link
  7. Moon Man is awesome. Definitely one of my favorites that NG has done.
  8. Interesting. I recall when Hinch was hired, DHonks had some interesting feedback on the move: wow, AJ Hinch has been named manager? How many times can the Dbacks slight Chip Hale? Chip's had a great minor league managing career and been a big league coach. Hasn't Hinch been the farm director for the last few years? I did a little work for them in minor league camp a few years back, and Hinch was off to take "front office BP" with the other Frat Boys (walking around with unbuttoned golf shirts, funky colored shorts, and visors on) they have running the show, while Chip was putting in 12-15 hour days with the minor leaguers.
  9. Zaun played every day until he had a season-ending surgery and the roster now has two rookie catchers on it Aside from endaround's points, Zaun didn't play anywhere near every day (even as just a term used about baseball regular starters). The catching situation is the one thing I think Macha has handled pretty well all year.
  10. Great post, PF. I'm concerned about the roster management issue you highlight; had a similar thought yesterday when thinking about Davis. I also agree that the odd man out here should be Narveson, basically for the reasons you cited.
  11. I think the issue I have is your hyperbole on Gerut. I can agree with you that perhaps Katin would be a better fit as the team's currently constructed. I can't agree with calling Gerut "terrible" and "god awful". It's just not true.
  12. PM response sent, in the hopes this thread can get back on target http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I think we're already past the point where 1 guy has enough time for all these prospects I think it's naive to assume he's the only guy working with the young arms in the first place. Tunnel might be making the bigger calls in terms of who's ready to advance, etc., or who are the priority arms, but overall I'd guess he's not the only guy to work with young pitchers. I honestly don't see how Peterson won't impact the MiLB players, when the Brewers pretty explicitly added him to work with the MiLB guys as well. If that message is true, I fully expect Peterson to have a good impact with the MiLB arms.
  14. "MLB talent" for Fielder (imho) means lower-upside players, which to me is a waste of time. If you're not dealing for impact-talent players, just take the comp. draft picks for when you lose him in free agency.
  15. That's from all of 12 starts in his age-20 & 21 seasons. Imo he's absolutely worth rolling the dice on as a SP at this point. Like Invader noted, it's really not hard to move someone to the bullpen if they fail as a SP.
  16. He's got a decent midrange jumper (a la Joe Smith) This is a much better comparison, imo, than the Tim Thomas comp. mentioned earlier.
  17. Good points on the Rangers, mls4. Seems like they blocked young players that they need to discover whether or not are viable long-term options with this move. I wouldn't be happy if I were a Rangers fan.
  18. My only hesitation would be the Brewers haven't had much luck reigning in pitchers in the minors who lacked control prior to Lee Tunnell and Rick Peterson. Wouldn't those two be a reason to feel confident in this trade?
  19. RF really isn't very big there, though. I think this is a move that would be worth exploring from the Brewers' p.o.v. Unfortunately, it seems like Melvin will continue to live by the absolutist statement that you can get more for bats in the offseason.
  20. I'd be downright furious if they keep Jeffress in the the bullpen Me too, Paul. Much like Parra at the big-league level, the Brewers need to find out if this guy can have success as a starter. I'm sure the long-term plan isn't to have Jeremy pitching from the bullpen. I sure hope, anyway.
  21. I got curious about Ramirez (who, confusingly, also goes by J.C. Ramirez), so here's a scouting report from a Philly sports blog. They ranked him as the Phillies' 9th-best prospect heading into this season He actually started the year with A+ Clearwater, and posted very good peripherals (7.7 K/9, 2.4 BB/9, 3.21 K/BB) even though his ERA was a touch above 4.00. He's struggled in his three starts since joining Reading, but clearly the Phillies are high on this kid.
  22. What will Hart conceivably get in arbitration, though? If the Padres believe that he's capable of replicating a high-.800s OPS, he could well be worth the money. Plus, he's a guy that uses the gaps well, & would rack up a ton of doubles in that stadium even if it'd eat some HRs. I know the FanGraphs dollar values are a bit controversial, but their estimate of his production already is $7.3M for this season so far.
  23. And iirc those stats for Parra only include his starts. Just a disclaimer.
  24. I'm kind of hoping Macha is not fired during the season for those same reasons, Baldkin. I'd rather see all candidates considered during the off-season It won't matter. Melvin will hire another retread that will have stereotypical managerial strengths and weaknesses, ultimately canceling themselves out to make him average, like nearly every other retread manager in MLB.
  25. I’m told by someone close to situation in Milwaukee that Brewers aren’t inclined to trade him as well as he’s playing right now, even though he’ll be eligible for free agency after next season. http://hollywoodhatesme.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/exploding_head.jpg Yeah, you know, why would you sell high on a player you can probably replace through your farm system?
