  1. I doubt that, personally. I think fans tend to swing their opinions on players far more easily than F.O. types & scouts. I agree that Gamel will be in Nashville, though. No sense in wasting his service time as a reserve.
  2. The latter. Escobar might prove people like me wrong & suddenly improve his plate discipline, hit around .315 & be a great leadoff candidate. However, at this point, there's just nothing to suggest that that's likely. Weeks is a fine leadoff option, and if the Brewers are lucky enough to have Escobar hit his way to the top of the lineup, Rickie can finally slide down in the middle of the lineup where he belongs. If Escobar doesn't force his way up the lineup, ho hum, the Brewers have the 'problem' of getting our third-best hitter in a spot to see the most PAs of anyone on the team.
  3. Chuck Lofgren- The one I'm most excited about. He's got big time potential, and I believe the potential to help us in the very immediate future. Of course he likely will not be one of the 7 best to break camp, so this is a case of a pitcher who is better likely having to start in AAA. Lofgren has to either be on the 25-man, or returned to the Indians, since he was a Rule 5 selection.
  4. I think people are a little bit too down on Manny. I think he's the type of kid that if he has a good ST'ing and a good start to the season, you could see just breaking out and putting up a fantastic season. And it's not like he didn't show signs of that potential at times last season, either. With Manny, imo it's going to always come down to whether or not he nibbles. I don't know if it's a confidence issue, where he doesn't yet trust his stuff against big-league hitters, or if it's a case where he's just trying to pitch like a HoFer & paint the corners like Greg Maddux. Either way, I think he needs a strong voice from his pitching coach reminding him that there's a reason he's been able to dominate hitters at every level, and that he needs to trust his stuff.
  5. No reason Escobar or Gomez should be anywhere near the top of the lineup
  6. Well, I obviously didn't do that. It just seems odd to blame him for what was a good signing.
  7. They shed a lot of salary too. They lost Washburn, Beltre, Batista, Johjima. Just those 4 guys accounted for over $40 million dollars last season. Jeez, Bavasi was terrible. Blame Bavasi for the other three, but Beltre was absolutely worth his money. I'm not sure that the M's will get equal production from Figgins, but it seems they opted for him because they felt Beltre would cost more.
  8. How can Hulet justify leaving Arnett off that list?
  9. I have to ask, Toby, is Soup as long reliever based on any specific info? Or is it just how you would slot him? I personally think the Wisconsin roster looks great. Should be a fun season (or at least first half of the season) for Timber Rattlers fans.
  10. I think Gamel proved everything he had to prior to being called up, and was terribly mishandled. However, at some point, he needs to wipe that out of his memory banks & just get back to his natural stroke... and start raking.
  11. The AFL announced its All-Prospect team on Dec. 9th. Here's the link to the .pdf file of the full squad. C Nevin Ashley (TB) C Buster Posey (SF) 1B Russ Mitchell (LAD) 1B Ike Davis (NYM) 2B Jemile Weeks (OAK) 2B Scott Sizemore (DET) SS Starlin Castro (CHN) SS Danny Espinosa (WAS) 3B Mike Moustakas (KC) 3B Josh Vitters (CHC) OF Grant Desme (OAK) OF Jose Tabata (PIT) OF Bryan Petersen (FLA) OF Chris Heisey (CIN) OF Jordan Danks (CHW) OF Domonic Brown (PHI) DH Matt McBride (CLE) DH Brandon Laird (NYY) ------- SP Stephen Strasburg (WAS) SP Donnie Veal (PIT) RP Drew Storen (WAS) RP Tanner Scheppers (TEX)
  12. Escobar should prove he can get on base better than ~.325 or so before he gets to prove anything about being a leadoff hitter. Same for Gomez.
  13. However to this day my "Put some ice on it!" has become a lengendary inside joke with the coach staff and football program as a whole. Wow. Legendary indeed. That poor kid... no one deserves that kind of pain.
  14. You need to start hating the thought of the Brewers trading for Tim Lincecum!
  15. FanGraphs' Marc Hulet recently posted his draft review of the Brewers ('09, '08, '07, & '06). He doesn't cover every pick... just the notable ones. Link

  17. A couple different takes from FanGraphs... Dave Cameron (of USS Mariner) Marc Hulet looks at the prospects involved in the deal
  18. If I've learned anything from NCAA Football '07, it's that you don't make player promises in recruiting unless they're for jersey numbers! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. I know what you mean, but it wouldn't 'surprise' me personally to see Parra significantly out-perform his '10 projections. I think he's very capable of turning in 180-ish IP of 4.00-ish ERA.
  20. So what was the point of quitting? To just let everyone know he's a tool? Or am I just overreacting to him leaving the team?
  21. I'd rather see Melvin go after someone like Correia than give up Gamel+ to get a higher-priced and/or more talented pitcher. I guess the lack of trade rumors had kinda lulled me into a false sense of security that DM wasn't thinking about shipping off Gamel. Now I get nervous.
  22. Ironically, "Yovani Gallardo" almost always seems to be spelled correctly. "McGehee" is another that some/many people just don't seem to take the time to learn.
  23. Deadspin has a pretty brutal 'Coach horror stories' series they've been running. It's Deadspin, so the nsfw language should be a given. Link
  24. I'm not familiar with NCAA transfer rules... does Maymon quitting the team mean he can pick up with another team this season? I have to doubt it, since as best I understand he'd still have to transfer schools. If my assumption is correct, then what does Maymon gain by not simply transferring? Would he have been able to count this '10-'11 season as his transfer (aka 'sit it out') year? Thanks in advance to any who answer.
  25. James's projections are notoriously the most optimistic of the main systems. I know he has his own thread in the Transactions Forum, but one reason I like the idea of trading for SD's Kevin Correia is that you'd drop a 5-ish ERA in Soup to add a guy that projects quite similarly to Dave Bush.
