I don't have a problem with him asking for a high price in return for the ball, but just as with the Jenkins HR ball, he gets out of line when he asks for item(s) from players not involved in the situation. Ask for all the tickets or merchandise from the team you want, make Coghlan give you a bat, helmet, jersey, whatever, but asking for stuff from another player is probably both quite insulting to the player whose milestone you obtained, and also pretty embarrassing to him as well. This is where I fall in this discussion too. I think it was FtJ that posted something to the effect of, 'this got ugly'. To me, the reason for the ugliness is clear -- greed. Honestly, put yourself in Coghlan's shoes. There's a good chance the guy doesn't even know Hanley Ramirez, and now some rookie is expected to walk up to the biggest star on the team & just get a bat? Akward, and like PF said, insulting & embarassing. I guess my only real problem with the way in which HY handled the situation was the lact of tact & class. I know people mentioned Coghlan's likely salary, and honestly I'd bet that Coghlan would have been willing to comply with basically any request HY might have had of Coghlan himself -- signed memorablia, pictures, money, etc. Instead, HY chose to create an ugly situation out of what should have been a joyous moment for Coghlan... getting his first MLB HR ball back & meeting the guy that made a nice catch on the mammoth shot. It's embarassing to me that this is now being reflected on the Brewers fanbase as a whole, and for that I resent HY & his actions.
