  1. That poor woman... but I totally agree with you http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif My gift is my song... and this one's for you...
  2. The second is beer with onion, garlic, green pepper (and sometimes red and yellow peppers), diced as finely as I possibly can. This is where I pre-boil the brats for a bit. I leave this boiling madly while the brats are on the grill. When it's boiled down to no liquid left, and everything is brown and carmelized, I strain it through a wire strainer. This becomes relish for use on the finished brats. It is fantastic! The only thing you need to watch, is to not use too much green pepper or it will overpower everything else. There's no such thing as too much onion or too much garlic though. Yummy! Do you cater? I can't even tell you how hungry this just made me
  3. Hall is on pace for over 4.6 value wins this year. Thats outstanding. His contract is a bargain. Fielder is the bad salary in this lineup next year, not Hall. Hall is Adrian Beltre for half the money. I get the point you're making, and offensively the comparison may be apt. However, defensively, Hall is not the caliber of player Beltre is. I should say, though, that imho there aren't more than a small handful of 3B defenders that are in Beltre's stratosphere.
  4. Hughes actually looked great in his most recent start. I still think he's going to be a good one for a long time.
  5. Is it just me or does it feel wrong to drink anything but Miller in the Miller Park parking lot? It feels wrong to me to drink Miller Lite anytime, anywhere. My perfect tailgating brew would have to be something like a New Glarus Spotted Cow. A growler or two of the Great Dane's Mallards Ale would actually be great, too. Lord knows some of the Madison BF softball guys have/had an irrational love for that brew! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif My friend wants to bring Bud to our tailgate on Saturday, and I told him to go to Chicago with it. Ha! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I love that you (perhaps even unintentionally) have now coined the phrase, 'You can go to [Chicago]!'
  6. 3 vs AZI (2-1) 2 @ PIT (1-1) 2 @ CIN (1-1) 3 vs CHI (2-1) 3 vs FLA (2-1) 3 @ STL (1-2) 3 @ HOU (2-1) 3 @ MIN (1-2) 3 vs STL (2-1) 3 vs CIN (2-1) 14-14... but I think that's a pretty cautious outlook. Could easily pick up extra wins in Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Houston, & even St. Louis... I just didn't feel comfortable predicting that many series wins http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. I could see the Crew posting a 16-12 record, but anything better than that & I'll be very happy.
  7. Maybe you're next on the call-up depth chart? Congrats to Carlos, and I'm with X in hoping that with some good results and/or luck, he'll make the most of this shot.
  8. What, you're saying a 20-y-o hitting 36 HR with a line of .358/.414/.631/1.045 is supposed to be a red flag? A-Rod is the new poster boy for 'Roid Rage: The Backlash. First McGwire, then Bonds, now Rodriguez... I wonder who the next uber-villain will be.
  9. That's possible but there are many players that would rather retire before they accept a bench role at league minimum. And my gut tells me that Edmonds is prepared to retire. Where are the stats to back this up?!? This isn't rluz... it's an imposter! I agree that Edmonds will probably wind up accepting that his only employment is as a 4th OF, so hopefully we'd be able to make some room for him on the 25-man at that time. However, Edmonds isn't a good fielder anymore, and obviously his bat isn't going to be getting better, so I really don't see him as that much of an upgrade over Nelson (even in 2009)... and I'm especially opposed to adding Edmonds if it meant losing Nelson.
  10. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Thanks for sharing that, brewtank. I wasn't able to tune in. I admit it feels strange having a manager that doesn't seem to resent the press at worst & barely tolerate them at best. Viva Macha!
  11. Question for others with Extra Innings: Am I the only one that remembers MLB advertising that this season all home & away broadcasts would be available? I was excited about being able to listen to BA & Rock as much as possible, but the setup in terms of broadcast selection/availability looks identical to last year (read: poor) so far.
  12. I don't know, I guess I'm a little older than many of the posters on this site. I grew up watching guys like Yount, Brett, Gwynn, etc. I thought all these guys were very classy in the way they conducted themselves on and off the field. I can't see any of them ever having made comments like the ones Braun has made over the last 2 or 3 weeks. Part of it is certainly the amount of access fans now have. Blogging imho has completely changed the job of a beat writer. I'm sure (as MJ alludes to re: Brett) the 'classic' ballplayers we grew up watching had their share of ugly moments and/or questionable statements... but now we don't see the comments scroll across ESPN's bottom line 20 minutes after they're uttered. But to get back to Braun, what surprised me was the way he solicited Commisioner Selig's attention. If I'm a player that would have even the slightest amount of culpability should a retaliatory beanball war break out, the last thing I want to do is call the commisioner's attention to me by dropping his name & telling him 'something's gonna happen' I don't understand why the Brewers "untuckem" thing is so offensive to other teams. Every other teams announcers have told the Cameron's Dad story. How can that upset you? I think it really is jealousy and lack of intelligence. I don't get it either. Something tells me the people who are stronly opposed to it are the same ones (like PIT's FSN announcing tandem... ugh) that ramble on & on about 'playing the game the right way', 'doing the little things', 'battling/scrapping/gritting/Eckstein-ing'
  13. I think the BoSox are just checking out good RPs around the league. I didn't see it as a slight. "Scout" is still the job title at the MLB level unless I'm mistaken.
  14. I need a sweep of the Bucs... so you're sayin' I've got a chance
  15. I'm sure there's a Pirates/U.S. Navy sniper joke in here somewhere... yarrrrr!
  16. Provus: What do you think happened there in the third [inning], on that pitch from Jeff Karstens? Braun: I think he probably hit me on purpose. You know, it's rare for a major-league pitcher to miss by that much with his fastball... You can tell Mr. Selig that the next time that kid pitches, there's a good chance he gets on in the ribs.
  17. Look, I like Brad Nelson, and I hope he succeeds, I'm just not as high on him as some of you guys are. Well your point that I addressed was about plate discipline. "Forget about small sample size, what has to be disconcerting is his terrible plate discipline. Anyone who has watched his at bats cannot honestly say that he has looked good up there. He's swinging at too many junk pitches for me to say that it's simply a product of small sample size" There's ample evidence that your point is a reaction based on a small sample. The chance that Nelson has suddenly forgotten how to have plate discipline is next to none.
  18. Forget about small sample size, what has to be disconcerting is his terrible plate discipline. Anyone who has watched his at bats cannot honestly say that he has looked good up there. He's swinging at too many junk pitches for me to say that it's simply a product of small sample size But if you do the fact-checking you see that he's demonstrated very good plate discipline at the highest levels of minor-league ball. I have watched almost all of Nelson's PAs this season & really don't see much reason for concern. He's worked several good ABs imo. The hits will come.
  19. And of course Evan only walked one guy. Amazing performance.
  20. I am not convinced Nelson is MLB player Why/Based on what?
  21. Congrats to Anundsen! 10 K's with 11 groundouts? No wonder it was a no-no http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I'm giving Willie Randolph a lot of credit for Rickie Weeks. The first thing I thought of when they brought him aboard was, "that's going to help out Rickie a ton". Yeah, I think watching Weeks in the field so far this season has demonstrated the huge impact Randolph and/or Sveum have had. Honestly there have been times (esp. in watching him turn double-plays) this season where I have to remind myself, 'No, that's still Rickie Weeks at second base.' Sure, he's still reminded us with some bad plays, but every player makes them, and it's about limiting your mistakes while still converting as many plays as possible into outs. If this new & improved Weeks can keep up this pace, I think we're going to have actually gotten a strong defensive contribution from him by season's end. EDIT: Whoops, went pretty hi-jack with that post... sorry. I agree with the general sentiment that the team's success & maturity as hitters have more to do with them getting older. However imho Sveum clearly resonates with this group -- look at how the team seemed to respond to him as manager last season.
  23. I loved watching him run down those gap-shots in Houston, too, benji. It's great to see Mike playing well, and reaffirming the faith that the Brewers braintrust (& others) had in him over this past offseason. As long as people can keep in mind that he's a guy whose offensive ceiling at this point is about .250/.350/.475/.825, I think we'll continue to be thrilled with his performance. Iirc Cameron was rated the best bang-for-the-buck FA acquisition for 2008 (per Fangraphs?), and I wouldn't be surprised if he fit that description again this season if compared against newly-signed 2009 FAs (yes, I know he wasn't a 'real' FA this past offseason).
  24. Totally agree, TWR (a sure sign of the apocalypse!). I really enjoy Nelson's approach at the plate, and his minor league production certainly shows that "he has good patience at the plate and good power." I think having him over the course of the season as the #1 PH option is going to be huge. The hits will come.
  25. My hope, however naive it may be, is that most players have seen what those who have been caught have gone through and that there is a general pact among the players that even if they can get away with it that it's no longer acceptable, nor is it the norm to use PEDs. Well I do think that is being naive... I really don't mean that in a malicious way. I just think it's wishful thinking to speculate that these guys have somehow learned their collective lesson. The financial difference between being an adequate player v. a good/great one is enough to make many, many people set aside morals... especially when other players are leaving you in the dust with the competitive advantages of utilizing PEDs.
