  1. I was thinking that same thing. Where is that guy now? Probably still writing crappy stories, doing his best to get on TV. He's exhibit A of why baseball columnists <<<<<< beat writers
  2. One of those things again that Ned was criticized for last year, and has fixed this year. Could this come back around to bit Tony in the long haul? Considering a 'different lineup' can be the exact same players with your 5 & 6 guys swapped, no. The media tends to salivate on this issue, which is really a non-issue imo. Just another example of how poorly most sportswriters understand baseball. I agree with you on more than enough of those points to not even bother with a couple of minor issues. Please -- 'bother' away. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I think the reason that some (including myself) give credit to Yost for things that he probably doesn't deserve is to try to compensate for those that believe he has far more negative impact than what we believe. I can understand this. In my world, the coaching staff in general is one of the least critical components of an organization. They are wayyyyyyyyyyy overrated. I like your world then.
  3. Thanks for sharing that, MadisonBrewerBlue. Some great belly laughs (for me) in there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "On Monday, Yost announced that any player who attempted to devour another, no matter how delicious they seemed to appear, would be subject to disciplinary action. However, like many disciplinary measures involving athletes, the decree seemed only to make those involved more cunning." It's too bad they missed that Prince is a vegetarian, but it's easy to set that concern aside in a fictional piece.
  4. The issue with Hardy is that he is a fan favorite and it's going to be hard to let him go. He continues to improve as a hitter and has played great defense this year despite his limited range. I think the Brewers are in a great position with Hardy. I love it when my team has a problem of 'too many good players'. The return should we deal J.J. would be very, very good. I agree that it's a slight to Hardy to ask him to move off SS when he's not only not a liability there, but a plus (imo). If the decision comes down to having to put J.J. at 2B & he doesn't want to lower his value like that, I think we should be fair to the guy & trade him somewhere he can play SS. If he'd move to 3B or 2B, gravy. The best-case scenario imo would be Hall continuing to mash enough to raise his value in the offseason, flip Hall (even if it means eating some of the contract), slide J.J. to 3B, if Alcides is ready let him man SS (only if he's ready -- I agree I'd like to see him play a bit more in the minors), and keep Weeks at 2B.
  5. I have posted on this board that Bill Hall would be back and he is at least for now. Long season to go. You knew he wouldn't post a .650-ish OPS all season long? What lotto numbers should I play tonight?! The way he requested a trade was professional Gimme a break. That was the definition of unprofessional.
  6. Wouldn't hurt. I didn't notice you being sarcastic
  7. I've really liked cb bucknor this series. I thought he called a good game game 1 and if you notice when he's out in the field he hustles to get into good position and such. A shining example of great umpiring so far. Bucknor is the one guy I've seen this season that's stood out in a positive way. If you get to meet whoever was at 3rd, ask them about Rapuano's call and what his call would have been had Rapuano bothered to ask him. Good luck on that -- http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif Umps definitely tend to have each others' backs. But when Yost yelled something from the dugout, he starting back at Yost. "It's my call, I saw it blah, blah blah" in a tone that was awful. He shouldn't have said anything back to Yost other than maybe, "I saw it". Totally agree, JBriggs. Rapuano went too far with Yost, and you'd assume he was barking at Fielder too... just with the mask still on. Prince certainly said something (not much) to Rapuano before walking back to the dugout. I thought Ned's timing in this instance was correct. Imho West being in no rush to get Yost away from Rapuano spoke volumes. rapuano also was not backing down...almost egging ned on well after he was tossed. there was no need for him to follow yost back to the dugout. Incredibly unprofessional. I think 'almost' is being generous.
  8. I thought that was powder blue
  9. If Bill Hall is owed an apology for finally hitting over a span of 13 games, then Rickie Weeks deserves an apology too. And Prince Fielder deserves 50,000 dozen roses.
  10. Nice to see Hall starting to play towards his lucrative contract. Not one Brewers fan owes Bill Hall an apology. If anything, it's the other way around (imo). However, in lieu of an apology, I will accept more good production at the plate... but he might have to apologize for his defense.
  11. Well... alright. But only if she can get the hat off before I toss the match http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I like that one a lot better... just rolls off the tongue
  13. They're completely dumb imo. I just assume they're the BA in the specific zones, but all they tell you is that tiny samples are next to worthless. But all pitches fit neatly into one of 9 segments of the perfectly rectangular & always consistent strike zone! In honor of IIR, I'm going to start yelling "I don't know what you mean, I hate you!" when I see them, too. On the plus side, Fox gets to use another graphic with FIRE!!!! WHOOOSH!
  14. Holy crap, that's crazy. Glad to hear you're ok. I'd be really shaken up. Geez, no kidding. Second that, split. Wow. Clevenger sounds like someone that values his own selfish desires over anything else, so sadly it's not extremely surprising that he valued everyone else's life as discardable. This man needs to be put away for a long time.
  15. Why did the police release that video? Seems incredibly unprofessional -- though I admit I don't know whether or not doing so is standard procedure or not. Seems like it was just to humiliate the guy.
  16. If Yo has medical clearance, & has had time to throw on the side & is not rusty, the Brewers would be fools to not pitch him in the 'pen. I don't know how I'd hope for him to be used, but I tend to think the labels ('Closer', '8th-inn. Guy', etc.) are silly. If he can pitch & can help this team, I'd want to see him go.
  17. A team that has won 9 in a row has a much better chance of winning that 10th game, than the same team that has lost 5 in a row. That's just an assumption, though. I think if you look around the league, the reverse of that statement is actually true (if the two teams are assumed as equal in terms of talent). Which is why you don't often see winning streaks sustained into double-digits, I'd guess.
  18. Thanks for the heads-up end. I'll definitely check that out.
  19. I second Rillo on that. He's crazy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. Yeah, no kidding. 37-19 (.661) since then. Wow!
  21. It's probably "breast cancer" pink. The Packers have it, too. Well, the way it was being worn definitely indicated the breast cancer aspect was ancillary. It definitely appeared to be an 'OMG cute!' thing. Thanks for the backup tristar... felt pretty stupid when I read casey's post... well, you know, more stupid than usual.
  22. The sappy point I am trying to make is I want to thank the mods and the people that post here for a job well done. Agreed, absolutely. Now I need to do something manly to get the sappy need to hug someone out of my head. Make sure not to do something wimpy like running a triathalon. Brewerfan.net is like porn to me. And also to the infamous crazyK1294: "Some people are addicted to internet porn - I am addicted to Brewerfan.net." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif This Web site is amazing. I know I've learned a lot from reading and posting here over the last few years. It's to the point, that I can't really stand talking baseball anywhere else because comparatively, no one else seems to have the same level of knowledge and insight that the people here do. We are indeed a special brand of nerds. I know *exactly* what you mean about not being able to discuss baseball anymore with most other fans. I typically just bite my tounge & have a pleasant conversation, but in my head I'm really screaming, 'ERA!?! He's thrown 50 IP!' i am italian, so this site rappresent everything i know about the brewers, about what the fans think, the only unofficial source i really trust and enjoy. despite the fact that my english is not very good and that I see the action with ours and ours of jet lag (though some nights i stay sleepless watching the game) i don't write as much as i would but i watch this board every single day. thanks to everyone. Holy crap, kalle8! You've got to be the hardest-working Brewers-fan. I mean, I enjoy football (Serie A, E.P.L., Sp. Primera, etc.), but I certainly haven't learned Italian, or Spanish, or English... wait... so I can go post on a fan forum. Very impressive, as is your willingness to stay up all night just to watch the Brewers. Wow! I thought I was so lucky to find such a great board, now maybe not so much. Only because it was a year later I introduced my boyfriend to bf.net by chance and now he's kinda obsessed. Your boyfriend sounds like a loser
  23. Once you order up your big steak, you remember that first, you gotta have the salad. maybe you aren't a big salad guy. but you order one anyways because you are starving. you order your salad with plenty of bacon bits and french dressing (McClung); and as you wait and once the salad arrives, maybe you feel like should should have gone with the caeser salad instead (Bush). [expletive deleted] Oh well, it's too late, and the strange decision (pitching platoon) has already been made. But alas! The salad actually hits the spot. It actually worked out pretty well, and you are content with having gotten the bacon bits and french dressing salad. you only eat about half the salad (McClung goes 5 innings), but the bread and oil (bullpen) tides you over for the most part Of course, gotta watch out for those salad tongs (Pujols?) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. But the projection must have taken into account a bad stretch along the way since every team goes through them. Exactly, Buc, and this is something Russ was trying to say early on in this thread -- it appears that over the course of this season, a lot of fans posting in this thread have developed a much better understanding of projections & the way they work. I know I'm one of them, and once again we have Russ to thank for a very large part of that.
  25. I saw my first Brewers 'Pink OMG!1!! PINK! It's so cute!! OMGz!' hat this season, worn by some girl. I wanted to douse the hat in gasoline & set it ablaze.
