  1. EDIT: I see the Sabathia talk is covered in the Transactions forum... sorry.
  2. I think it's interesting that, coming into tonight's game, Prince & Braun shared the same OPS+ (119). One is being lauded & voted into the All-Star game, and the other is getting called a disappointment that we should trade this offseason.
  3. I saw this over at THT & felt it gives a pretty good (albeit crude) indication of why the Cubs are winning so often: http://www.hardballtimes.com/gifs/nlteamobpiso.gif It's the most current I saw there. If anyone finds anything more recent, please post it. The Cubs have been basically in the second tier in terms of power & a land of their own when it comes to getting on base.
  4. You questioned whether he would be ML ready in Opening Day 2009. If his offense isn't ready, imho he isn't MLB-ready. Being in the bottom third of MLB isn't 'ready' -- just my tastes. If it were only based on D, he's probably MLB ready at least at OD 2008.
  5. The Cubs already lost today and the Cardinals are losing 9-0 to the Mets in the 5th. 11-1 now (bottom 7). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Just terrible managing. This isn't even the first time this season that Yost has played that situation (runners on 2B & 3B, < 2 outs, late innings) that exact same way. He's just not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
  7. I think he's MLB ready now. I guess it depends on what you expect. I certainly think the Crew would be better off with Escobar as an everyday player right now over Hall, which was my point. I don't want to see Escobar waste a year of MLB service time when he can only manage (to use PrimeTime's BA example) a .250/.300/.350 line. His defense has been MLB ready for a while now from what I've seen/read, but that bat has a ways to go still (imo). In my opinion it's a no brainer that you do not extend JJ Hardy and just let Escobar transition into that position in the next 2 seasons. Agreed with this. Hopefully Esco's bat will continue to show improvement. He's having a great 2008 season.
  8. With all the talk in 2006 about the Brewers being a playoff contender it's very fair to put that in there as well. They finished 28th. It's very fair to use the bullpen management in Melvin's tenure against him, especially when we're trying to compete. But the 2006 Brewers finished roughly where they were projected to iirc. Point taken though.
  9. Today's game only counts as one loss, even though it feels like 18 losses. We were lucky to get the W last night, and absurdly unlucky to get the loss today. Lady Luck is a fickle mistress. http://cdn-ce-den-t2-01.ce.ctv.icdn.comcast.net/CTV/Comcast_CIM_Prod_Fancast_Live/658/249/1205951828288_21722_0007_290_210.jpg The first loss seemed like 18 losses... ... And that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this win at Arizona. And this series at home v. Pittsburgh, the series v. Colorado, and the win at Arizona and that's all I need. And the series v. the Reds...
  10. Once again we're told that Escobar will be MLB-ready on Opening Day 2009. Is that really likely?
  11. The only two seasons where it was really important how well the bullpen did were 2007 & 2008. I don't want Melvin wasting money & draft positioning in 2003-05. The bullpen could easily wind up being much better than 19th this season.... But to this point there's no denying that it's been rough.
  12. It'd be cool if anyone had league averages for different eras to share. ERA+... adjusted to compare over ballparks & eras. 100 is considered league-avg., no matter the era.
  13. I hate Guillermo Mota & his stinkiness
  14. That's the tricky question. The Cubs won the division, so to me, they played/executed better and/or had the better results. That doesn't mean -- to me -- that they're any more or less talented, but over the course of 162 games, the more talented teams typically have the better results. For example, I think the Brewers got lucky to hang on & win last night. I don't think we necessarily played better than the DBacks, but that last hot shot happened to go right at Branyan, game ending double-play. That's a W, but I don't think you necessarily can say 'The Brewers are more talented than the Diamondbacks because the Brewers won'. I personally think our offense is better & their pitching is better.
  15. I think his approach has been impressive all season. Now he's started hitting. Loving Hardy right now.
  16. Circle us, Bert! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  17. I'm fine with W-L as a team stat. Obviously I have no problem using it to look at what happened to or for a team, but it's when you try to use it to look at what is likely to happen (especially applied to individuals), no thanks.
  18. I can't believe the tone that Darron Sutton was using to call the Brewers' positive plays. So somber and disgusted. He 'goes all out!1!!' every broadcast. Does his best to be the #1 FAN!. It's shtick to me, just like 'Gracie' saying, 'I'll tell you what, Daron Sutton...' I'll freakin' tell you what you knuckleheads, your broadcast is the least tolerable one I've seen all season. I've watched just about every team's feed for at least an inning at this point. Theirs is like some bad Vaudville act. the diamondbacks red-hat section. annoying from afar, but when the broadcast cuts part of every 1/2 inning for a stupid interview amongst a group of 70-somethings, it's beyond tolerable. And Brewers fans thought our broadcasts were bad...
  19. I know minorleaguesplits.com had a message up at one point that the past seasons' data is temporarily unavailable, but would be coming back online in the near future. This was months ago... iirc the site said they were working on their format or something to that effect.
  20. a prospect is just that. lots and lots of 49ers went to California as prospectors but way, WAY more people walked away without gold than struck it rich. The gold miners had it far more random, but I get what you're saying. I think we're one of the best 5 or 6 teams in the NL this season, and with the current playoff alignment, that's about all I can ask as a fan. I believe we will pass the Cards & even get close to the Cubs (to catch them they'll have to slow their pace). The good thing this season is that keeping close to the Cubs is probably going to get you to October. If someone like Sabathia could be added, wow. Not sure what I think about that kind of deal
  21. ... raising his OBP 800 points in the process! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Forgot the polls closed yesterday.
  22. Strikeout, game over
