  1. This is exactly how I feel about Law, & his current assessment of the Brewers' farm -- unfortunately, I think he hit the nail on the head this time.
  2. Well, it's a complicated method -- you see, I add a "-y" sound to the end of a guy's name, and BAM! Nickname!
  3. I think Gennett is the least-gifted hitter out of those 8 regulars (save maybe Reynolds), so I don't see any problem with him hitting 8th. The last part of his offensive game that can realistically come around is BB rate, & if anything the #8 spot should give him ample opportunity to take his walks. Unless he takes a major step forward as a hitter in 2014, I definitely don't want to see him ahead of anyone of note in this lineup.
  4. That put a big smile on my face, BUC. Dogs are awesome. Cold? No, uh, I'm not cold... why, are you?
  5. When you consider that it's multiple years of Smith compared to just one more season of a pretty replaceable corner OF, no I wouldn't agree with your assessment. Not to mention how bad Braun's defense would probably be at 1B, given his 'track record' at the other corner IF spot.
  6. I realize this thread concept is a bit of a gray area, but let's please try to keep it to a discussion of the Attanasio/Melvin relationship.
  7. I'm going to quote monty's edit to remind people to please keep this thread on Matt Garza. Plenty of other threads to use to discuss 1B.
  8. Well, there's a review that'll make me watch The Worlds End! Good to hear.
  9. Good read... sorry to hear about the tragedy the young man has already had to deal with
  10. I think the writing's on the wall with BA. I have no idea what his contract is like, but I have to guess he has more than enough national exposure at this point to be a candidate for major jobs. It's hard for me to believe LePay would be getting involved only to cover a handful of games. Maybe he's next in line for the job.
  11. I'd rather we burn the pick by signing a player that has proven he can play in MLB than burn it by allowing Bruce Seid to make the selection. Not sure if I want to give you an interwebs high-five, or go cry a little. http://i.imgur.com/AdMp28S.gif
  12. Sure sounds like this would be health/injury related. If this franchise burns another first round pick, I will be done being a Brewers fan for a while.
  13. There is no way they could know that a free agent pitcher of that level would be in the range they could afford, so by making that trade the lessen the need to sign a free agent. However, even knowing I was going to sign Garza, I still trade Aoki. I think they got a decent pitcher they control for years and Davis/Gindl slugging will make up for the drop in OBP and defense. Plus they needed help in the bullpen and Smith should help a lot there. And if we're willing to borrow a page from the Cardinals in an effort to bolster the shot at contending, having arms like Thornburg & Nelson to augment the bullpen would be a big boost, too. Not saying I'd burn a whole year of service time for Downhill Thunder in the 'pen... but if we get to August or so with the team seriously contending & the rotation set, I'd call him up for relief duty in a heartbeat. I'm not sure I can imagine a situation where you have too much pitching.
  14. Interesting idea... maybe hammering out what a 5th year mutual option would be?
  15. Has there even been a stretch of three games where opponents have scored 70 or more during Bo's tenure? Wow.
  16. Adam McCalvy's blog post on this matter: Hard to know what to make of this, but certainly confusing.
  17. Latest from Adam McCalvy (via Twitter):
  18. He has a career 3.48 ERA in the postseason, which is more innings than he threw in Sept. 2013. Does that re-set his 'clutch' back to medium?
  19. This sums up my feelings on the deal. Thrilled that there looks like there'll be no 1st-rounder forfeiting this year.
  20. Kotsay could play CF like Yuni could play SS. Sure they could be there but they really shouldn't. And we were lucky enough to see both of them play there in game 3 of the NLCS. Fortunately neither impacted the outcome at all
  21. Not really. How dare you doubt me! I knew this was 100% true from the start. Now I need to go make better friends with this friend of my friend... Awesome info, BB61! Now we demand you consistently provide it going forward!
  22. Yep, or like a celebrity getting popped for his/her first DUI & then suddenly admitting they're battling alcoholism & checking into rehab. Playing the part of the victim.
  23. If we sign Garza, we could definitely still deal a younger pitcher and/or prospects for a first baseman. Garza's talent level is definitely higher than any of the young arms we have aside from maybe Peralta or Nelson.
  24. I think you could also say they're taking heed of how Darvish has worked out so far in Texas.
  25. On the Minor League Forum? I hope you mean the Transaction Forum... otherwise I'd like some proof. I took his comment to mean the BF forums in general, fwiw
