  1. No clue on the skit, but I think you're vastly underrating the catching position. He's a guy who's an elite defensive catcher, and who I think I can hit .250//315/.420. That's a very solid starter at the hardest position to find a player at. I don't think most teams have a player like him. They MAY have players with his skills, but guess what, Jed Bradley has Andy Pettite's skills. I don't see him becoming Pettite(though I'm open to it as you just never know). Performing as he has at the big league level isn't luck or a fluke. You don't throw and block like that because you got lucky. And he hits the ball hard and has a pretty good eye. He's over performing, but he's as good as Blanco has been in his career and I think he will continue to be. That's a 7-8 year starter at the toughest position to find(arguably, SS is tough as well). I think if he could hit like that he'd be very valuable. Those are his career minor league averages though (basically). There's no real reason to think he can maintain those numbers in the majors over a long period of time. Hope you're right, but I doubt it. Edit: Having said that, I wouldn't trade him. As has been said, he's very valuable just as a backup. His defensive skills are truly elite, and that's what I want from my 2nd catcher.
  2. Votto's probably better than Braun, but that contract is brutal. I certainly wouldnt trade Braun for him, but I'd sure as hell take him for free.
  3. Saw Eric Semmelhack pitch tonight for the Chinooks. Big kid with a decent delivery. Seems a little "efforty" to me. Not too free and easy. Will have to learn to use his legs a little better. Sat about 89-91. Did crank 2 up to 94 in the 6th though which was impressive. He needs some coaching, but the body and arm are definitely there.
  4. OMG I SO AGREE!
  5. There's a Tyrone Taylor paragraph in this article: http://www.bbprospectreport.com/2012/02/15/2012-mlsb-hitters#more-15351 Sounds like the guy has watched him quite a bit. Pretty underwhelming scouting report. Doesn't necessarily mean anything though. Edit: Couple more nuggets here: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/2012/02/southern-california-prep-talent-shines-in-compton/ Video of Tyrone as well:
  6. I'm already on record saying I like the Roache pick and underwhelmed by the other 2. What are your views?
  7. With Justin Schultz basically leaving Anaheim out to dry I think retaining the rights throughout would be the only way to do it. You're drafted by that team, you play for that team. If you go to college the team holds your rights and the recommended draft bonus applies to what it was the year and place you were drafted. This was the first case I thought of when I read Logan's post. I would have to think the NHL rule could be tweaked to read 1 year rather than 30 days. That way the player has to sit a full year. Problem is, I don't think MLBPA would ever go for it.
  8. I dunno, I'd be kind of disappointed to only get 300 homers out of the 28th overall pick. Plus, what is Ron Gant most known for? Being mugged by Kent Hrbek, that's what. That's loser talk. And what's Jim Rice famous for? Being undeservedly elected to the Hall of Fame and grounding into a double play every time up. Roache better make the Hall of Fame and the Hall of Merit or this is a bust.
  9. They definitely hit some of my favorites. 2 of those are Sanford and Carnevor. Problem with those is they're very, very expensive. Carnevor particularly is out of sight.
  10. Callis says Coulter and Naquin. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/mock-draft/2012/2613500.html
  11. Law's final mock is in (insider only). 27-Coulter 28-Elfin I'd be happy with that. Don't see Elfin sliding that far though. He terms it as a "gift" if it happens. Edit: He has Addison Russell going #30 to the Yankees, and Lance McCullers, Jr. sliding out of the first round. What did I miss with McCullers?
  12. The most underrated restaurant in Milwaukee, IMO: http://lamerenda125.com/ Outstanding variety, and if you spend $100 you're going to be so full you can't move (or hammered ). Never had a bad plate of food, let alone a bad meal there. Only downside is that the bar is small if you like having a drink before dinner. Which isn't a huge deal. I'm a huge fan, and my wife and I have taken 5 or 6 other couples there and received nothing but positive feedback. I highly recommend it to anyone.
  13. I would be thrilled with those 2 guys. Seager is loaded with upside (although likely expensive), and Roache, to me, could be a huge steal due to injury. If they went this way, I'd like to see a high school pitcher at 38.
  14. What's routine about a league MVP getting a day off? Fielder had to be too sick to get out of bed to take a day off. Which is why I argued he should have been MVP last year. You can't be all that valuable if the manager gives you days off. http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q514/Hysmofyteligok/Giggles/double-facepalm1.jpg
  15. Lenny Harris. He was great in his one season as a Brewer too.
  16. I'm just a little shocked that you think he's going to hit in the high .100s. I don't believe that for a second. I understand that he's looked bad, but I'll take the ~1500 PAs from 2009-2011 as evidence before I take the last ~200. Having said that, with the start he's had, it's hard to envision him hitting more than about .215-.220 for the season, but high .100s? I seriously doubt it. Also, the 3-0 pitch last night was maddening, but I don't think he's an idiot either.
  17. Rickie Weeks has posted an OPS over .800 the past 3 years. He started the All Star game last year. Weeks is a muppet? What does this even mean? Don't let the facts ruin an emotional outburst. I would like to hear the answers though.
  18. Was Jordan the bulls' coach in 1993? It's a pretty major difference. Just a bad analogy. Rose should not be in the hall of fame IMO.
  19. Hmmm........I'm not that concerned about position, I just hope the kid can hit. Sounds like Coulter is pretty athletic, being a state champion wrestler, so I could get behind that pick. Anyone have any insight into signability? He's committed to ASU.
  20. Encouraging news: http://www.mlbtraderumors...k&utm_source=twitterfeed At least zack's willing to listen.
  21. That was sarcasm and Madson isn't younger. The original post was not sarcasm. And I just assumed madson was younger-oops. The more important part was the "better" part.
  22. That and madson's better and younger.
  23. Agree with every word of this.
  24. I wouldn't downgrade from Felix to Pineda just to get Banuelos or Betances. Wouldn't even consider it. Contracts notwithstanding. Hernandez is one of the 3 best pitchers in baseball. Even if Pineda becomes a #2 type guy, that's a big downgrade.
