  1. I disagree with the advanced metrics on Yelich's 2018 defense. He is well above average, in my opinion, and has the reputation to go along with that insofar as it matters for voting. Agree. And they're not even close on offense. Yelich is vastly better in every meaningful stat. Edit: Also, just looked at both of their advanced defensive stats. I don't see any evidence that Baez is a plus defender at any position. Decent at both 2B and SS according to DRS and UZR. Are there better metrics than those available? If so, mea culpa. Inside edge paints Yelich as a better defender than Baez, but of course at far less valuable positions. I can't see how an unbiased, informed voter could vote for Baez to be honest.
  2. I would never go to an event without a paper ticket for the reasons laid out above. Not really hard to print them. Edit: it appears that these barcodes are not available until cloe to gametime, so maybe it is a little more difficult to print them. I'm not familiar with that phenomenon.
  3. Crawford has been 1.9 WAR or higher every season of his career, averaging around 2.9. 2 big seasons of 4.3 & 5.3, but otherwise quite consistently around 2. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=5343&position=SS
  4. Screw you Ron and every Cub fan that ever lived.
  5. Just read the whole thread. Some nice work in there. The bed-wetting in the 4th inning was particularly fantastic. Especially since it was pointed out like 12 times that they couldn't have Carpenter face a lefty every at bat. The Jeffress speculation made me fairly uncomfortable, although BA didn't do anyone any favors there to be sure. Glad it's nothing serious.
  6. I would be curious to see the WAR of each player on that list. Not that WAR tells all, but it's a quick and dirty measure that would tell us enough in this case. I wonder if anyone besides Martinez and Cain cracked 2 WAR. Hosmer bWAR 1.0/fWAR -0.3 (!) Darvish -0.1/0.2 Martinez 6.1/5.4 Cain 6.8/5.4 Arrieta 2.7/2.1 Santana 1.6/1.9 Cobb 1.2/1.3 Davis 0.9/0.8 Bruce -0.3/0.1 Chatwood -0.1/-0.5 Cozart 0.1/0.3 Yikes. Well played, Cubs.
  7. I would never have guessed he would really compete for the MVP race...but then again I would never have thought the MVP race would be so, average. Yelich is really good, but won't even hit a 7 WAR (just over 6 right now) according to Baseball Reference. Just looking at the last few years: 2018 - 6.1 WAR (Yelich/Baez currently) 2017 - 7.6 WAR 2016 - 7.4 WAR 2015 - 10 WAR (holy...) 2014 - 7.7 WAR 2013 - 7.9 WAR 2012 - 7.6 WAR 2011 - 7.7 WAR 2007 - Jimmy Rollins 6.1 WAR Rollins was a low WAR guy as was Ryan Howard when he won it. That being said I don't know who was voting back then but wow... How did Ryan Howard ever win it over Pujols in 2006 is amazing. It is pretty impressive how low bar was set this year in the NL to be the best. The NL just does not have a Trout/Betts/etc. I don't know how far back one would have to go to find zero NL hitters without a 7+ WAR. I was interested, so I checked. 2014 no NL hitters over 7, and only 1 pitcher (Kershaw). Before that, 1986. And before that 1942. So, yeah. Not a great position player season in the NL this year.
  8. It would take quite the collapse to blow a 3 1/2 game lead with 10 1/2 to play. I'll be surprised if the Brewers don't win the first wild card without too much kerfluffle. I know it CAN happen, I just doubt very much that it will.
  9. There were so many guys that went through El Paso that put up monster numbers. Glenn Braggs, Joey Meyer, Billy Jo, all went through the same year. Glenn Braggs..... that dude was freakin' ripped. He should have/could have put up some good power numbers. I remember after he left MLB he went over to Japan and had a couple of big power seasons. Ugh. So many disappointments. I'll never forget how shocked I was that Glenn Braggs was African-American. Hilarious how the world has changed in 30 years.
  10. I agree. Hopefully you enjoy the Cardinals/Cubs game.
  11. +1 on the mascot love. Outstanding.
  12. Which was like his 4th best season as a reliever. In 1990 in 73 innings he allowed 2 homeruns, and walked..... 4 batters. That's ridiculous. With a 1.34 FIP .614 WHIP and 600 ERA+
  13. Dennis Eckersley's 1992 AL MVP and AL CyYoung Season. Which was like his 4th best season as a reliever.
  14. Feel excited! I know I am. Can’t wait! Yeap. Better than the Cardinals and any other team!
  15. That was always the story I heard. Don't think it's true.
  16. I'm friends with him on Facebook. He's an interesting cat. I sat next to him at a Brewer game in the bleachers in the early 90s. Cone on the mound for the Jays. It didn't go well, and he was quite distraught. I didn't realize at the time that he was autistic, (I think I was 16 or 17, I may not have even known what autism was back then) and I actually moved away from him because all he would ever say to me was "what are we going to do about this 3 run deficit?". I've gotten to know him now to the point where he knows who I am when I see him. He's such an unbelievably nice guy that I feel pretty bad about our first interaction. Edit: It was actually 1995, so I definitely should've known better.
  17. Yeah, Arcia has been fine. No chance I give up those 3 guys for Machado, who really hasn't been all that great for the Dodgers.
  18. Why did he bug you? From all I have ever heard about the guy, he was a super nice dude... Haha...........this is a long story.......but I didn't write that. My brother-in-law is a funny guy. No problems with him at all.
  19. Couldn't disagree more. This team is far more fun for me to watch than that team. Between Morgan's idiotic act, that stupid Monsters, Inc. thing, an idiot for a manager, Mark Kotsay, Yuni B..........blech. Least enjoyable good Brewer team ever for me.
  20. He moved to Arizona. Thank God. Guy bugged me.
