  1. Picks? With our draft picks we can only hope they develop into players like Escobar, I'd rather give up the draft picks than the top prospects if I had the choice. (trade vs FA) Regardless, considering our current SS situation and our need for a front line starter, I'd do Escobar + for Peavy
  2. I agree, I hope thats why this has taken so long. I really hope we don't do a salary dump without something else somewhat big up his sleeve for that money..
  3. Brnayan .234/.335/.491/.872 If that OBP and SLG are correct OPS should be 826 not 872, still a big advantage to Branyan though
  4. I dont think we should wait to hear if he would accept a trade here, we should just make an offer and if they Pads want it they will try to convince him to accept it.
  5. I wouldnt mind taking a chance on him depending on the price, he would be a nice fit as a 4th with the potential to even take the everyday job if healthy. But, when saying "if healthy" when referring to Rocco Baldelli almost feels like it should be in blue.
  6. I have no problem with Hall and Iribarren. I have no expectations for backup middle infielders, at least they both have some upside
  7. I also like Dunn with the idea of him being Fielder's eventual replacement. Hart, Brewer and Nelson for Greinke? Keep Cam unless they include a better arm than Igawa. Rotation: Gallardo, Greinke, Parra, Bush, Soup I think that's a team that can compete now and has some controllable, talented pitchers to build around along with flexibility to trade or extend Hardy and Fielder as we wish going forward.
  8. I'm still bitter they wouldn't let a lefty play short
  9. Not sure why Braun and Hart would swap?
  10. i have been against using hart in center but if it means we added dunn or abreu id do it, and thats a really good point by tigerbrew that playing him there would increase his value. I would take Cabrera as a 4th of. I hope we eat some contract if it allows us to get Kennedy back(and we still sign Dunn or Abreu)
  11. I agree that this makes a ton of sense for both sides if there is any truth to it. CC can play here, where he likes it and can win now, yet still has the opportunity to go home later when there might be more flexibility from the Cali teams to offer him a nice deal.
  12. Best in baseball, especially with Parra and Bush at the back end. Not likely, but fun to think about
  13. I agree with pretty much everyone. I'd be devastated to see him go, he does an amazing job and makes my summer nights while working more enjoyable.
  14. I would do 3/36 for Sheets ALL DAY. If he signs a contract similar to that or for less years or money and its not with us I'll be very upset.
  15. I said earlier Id offer him 3/45. I stand by that and I'd be doing it now and not waiting on CC. The guy has frustrated a lot of us with his injuries but look at what else is out there, even if we sign CC somehow Id still go after Ben. That would only change my focus to trying to dump Cameron and Suppan. CC, Sheets, Gallardo, Parra and Bush would be the best rotation in baseball.
  16. Just playing devils advocate, but you could argue that having young (cheap) talent is one of the reasons you CAN afford to have a high percentage tied to one guy. Obviously they won't stay cheap for much longer so we'd likely always have a number of pre arby guys filling out our roster. It would only work if we had continued success developing position players, we'd have to deal a lot of established players approaching FA and use younger guys to replace them. Escobar-Hardy, Cain-Cameron, Salome-Kendall, Gamel- Prince or Hart, if not 3rd, Green- Weeks or 3rd. Maybe some of those guys dont turn into everyday players, maybe others I didnt mention do. But, that's 6 of 8 everyday spots(including Braun) filled for relatively cheap. It scares me to have that much money in one player but I don't think it would be automatic doom like some do.
  17. I'd do this, IF the right deal was offered for Hardy. I wouldn't mind giving Hall the first shot at short. If it works out you have serious flexibility. You could trade him or Weeks once Escobar is ready, Hall moves to 2B if you move Weeks. If it doesnt work you still have Escobar waiting in the wings anyways, while he gets consistent ABs to start the year in Nashville.
  18. I have nothing of value to add to this thread, just that I got great joy watching Fukudome flail at sliders away and miss them by a few feet. He has a terrible swing/follow through
  19. I agree that Gamel starting the year at 3rd for the Crew is more of a possiblility than some people will admit. I'm not saying it would be the right or wrong move, but it very well could happen.
  20. I might be the only one, but once I'm eclipsing 100 MILLION DOLLARS I'm going to be where I want. Whether you make 140 or 165 your family will be set for generations, might as well be where you prefer to be.
  21. I said pretty much the same thing in post 427. Some people might find it crazy to leave that kinda money on the table. I don't know, once you have 100 million in your account I wouldn't lose sleep over the "gamble" that you will get at least another 50 in your next deal. Like zman said, he will only be 32, if he doesn't have a major injury or completely regress, he will get another nice deal. Heck, even if he regresses to average, which I don't see happening, he easily tops Suppan's deal. Even if he blows out his arm he has over 100 million dollars, maybe I'm crazy but once I'm that rich I'd be willing to take the gamble to play somewhere I'm happy. Plus, he'd be a hero here, an all time legend, one of the most loved sports figures in this state and in the teams history.
  22. Replacing Counsell with Hardy is more exciting than replacing Hardy with Escobar. Good point, there is some level of attachment with the first few waves and especially with the guys that got us into the postseason. I'm still very optimistic and excited. I think one thing we are lacking is one top, stud prospect that everyone feels good about and is very close. For example, we all feel good about Gamel but he has defensive question marks. If everyone was sold that Escobar could hit Hardy might already be gone. Jeffress could be special but will still take some time and we can't count an arm before it hatches, we know that all too well. Basically, I think a lot of people like our next waves but are being cautious and patient because despite their upside, none of our guys are forcing their way in just yet and still have some holes in their game or question marks.
  23. Fielder is not the only Prince in town anymore...
  24. I saw one in the middle of bluemound the other day, pretty strange. Why does the Oakland A's logo have an apostrophe? Doesn't that mean possession? If its plural you just add an s. Wait, maybe if it spells a word you have to use the apostrophe? Like As would mean as. But if you write the whole word, it would be Athletics, not Athletic's. Weird. Athletics is a great name for a team by the way.
