  1. I agree that there is no way he sustains his success of the second half over a long period of time, but in both milwaukee and cleveland he was worked hard. Obviously in milwaukee with working on short rest that many times but even in cleveland he pitched every 5th day regardless of off days, now I know that's not some strange thing. But, he said coming to milwaukee was nice to get occassional off days and extra day rest when the team stuck with a 5 man even with off days. When there's no pressure of using him while you have him and you know you have him for years there is no way you ride him into the ground like that. This has nothing to do with the Brewers odds of getting him, I just dont agree that hes battered and used goods like some people believe.
  2. I doubt they trade Escobar for anything other than a Lincecum type. And why would a Hardy deal have to be under the table?
  3. I was thinking the exact thing. Just baffled that they left the southpaw in there that long, play the match ups skips, pshhht
  4. I absolutely want him back, either at 2nd or in cf. He's much faster than Bill Hall so even if his instincts are the same as Hall's were out there, his pure speed would help him get to a number of balls. I'd also prefer we had a different player more suited to leadoff, I'd like to give Weeks a chance to hit somewhere else. It might seem stupid to some, but if he feels pressure to get on or can't settle in batting leadoff then it is a factor. I'd love to see him bat 5th and play center. A fresh start
  5. I agree about looking to trade Hart, and I love Hart. It would be selling low a bit, but I think some team would fall for his athleticism, speed/power combo and all star status. As for his baserunning, yeah his speed is nice but too often imo is he over aggressive and making dumb plays that result in bad outs. I don't think Hart is as bad as he was down the stretch, but at the same time I've never seen a slump like that. He wasn't just slumping to get a hit or get on base, he was absolutely lost at the plate. It really looked like the verdict was out and he had no clue how to adjust. I think I would go for Joe's original proposal if you believe Tehean can play 3rd. If he can that gives you flexibility with Gamel to play 3rd or right, with Tehean playing the other. You don't do it if you believe Hart will revert to 2007 but I'm not convinced. How about this if you don't think Gamel sticks at 3rd: Dejesus, Tehean & Greinke for Hart, Gamel, Nelson, Gwynn...Would suck to give up Gamel and LaPorta in the same year but if you want to value defense and pitching more it might be necessary. Greinke, Gallardo, Parra looks awfully nice for years and I'm sure they'll save a spot for Mr. Jeffress in a few years.
  6. Agree with Briggs, not sure why the nats would want to trade a young, cheap player. Unless they got multiple young, cheap players, and then why would we do it?

What if (insert action here) then (insert result here) . It doesn't work that way. You could say that about any player about any stat. He had a terrible OBP, no way around it. With another full year under his belt and what the club says his work ethic is. I'll bet we see improvement in walks next year. I don't think work ethic has much to do with plate discipline.
  8. I'm so torn on this but I wanted to chime in on the thread. The biggest factors to me seem obious, but are: how much will Mark A offer and how much will he raise the overall payroll to field a team around the big fella. I think it's POSSIBLE to field a competitive team with one player taking up ~1/3 of the payroll, but not easy, and makes the job of the GM that much harder. All 24 other spots are that much more important to get value. It would be vital to have a number of pre arby guys that can contribute in a major way, quickly. To me it all boils down to one question. Do you want more flexibility in building the rest of the roster at multiple spots or do you want to be committed to relying on a ton of young, cheap guys? The difference is instead of having the Suppans, Riskes, Gagnes, and Camerons of the world you'd rely on the Stetters, Dillards, Rottinos, and Kaplers of the world. I think the latter can be done and still have a competitive team, it just leaves smaller margin for error for DM and forces to you rely on more guys that arent exactly sure bets. The more I think about it the more I see it as being possible. Along with Sabathia, you'd have Gallardo, Parra and McClung very cheap and Bush wont cost a ton. If you could somehow get rid of Soup that would help but who knows if thats possible. Also, in the very near future you have a ton of talent in the minors that will likely be able to take over positions in the majors as you trade our current major league position players for prospects or cheap talent for more reloading. I know you can't count on your prospects before they hatch, but you have Gamel, Esbobar, Salome, and Green likely to be starters at some point and guys like Lucroy, Cain, Gillespie, and eventually Lawrie that will likely be worthy of a roster spot at the least. It's extremely unlikely to be able to have a ton of 1st and 2nd year guys in your lineup and be productive enough to go all the way, but I wouldn't say it's impossible. Verdict: Could be done and still be competitive, but would be difficult. I wouldn't mind taking a stab at it especially with how our system produces talent. At the same time, I wouldn't be upset if they get outbid. I'm not saying it absoutely should be done, but I think it could be.
  9. At least the Brewers could flip Cano then to the Dodgers for Kemp or Ethier. The Dodgers view Kemp like we view Braun. You don't have to agree with it, but they do.
  10. There is no way we resign him, he's this bad defensively at this young of an age...I'm not saying trade him NOW, I wouldn't mind giving him an off season to try and lose some of that weight he gained and TRY to become a better defender. But, I don't see either happening and if they don't I can't see the Brewers even wanting to sign him long term. It's either trade him now or hope he has a good year next year without gaining anymore weight and moving him next off season.
  11. Not that it means much, but Gord Ash said Escobar was chosen over Dillon to replace Weeks on the roster because he is "versatile" and "can play all of the infield positions". I'd assume all that means is that he can play short while Dillon can't. I'm sure Escobar COULD play 2nd or even 3rd but that minimizes his impact. I'd prefer going into 09 with Weeks and Hardy up the middle again. I wouldn't be against bringing Escobar up mid season to play 2nd if Weeks really struggles and Escobar is tearing it up in AAA. Then the next year they can decide which one to trade or see if they can convince JJ to play 3rd, because Escobar is the future SS of the Brewers, it's just a matter of when that happens and what moves are made to make it happen.
  12. what is the hold up for an official announcement? The Indians have to know who they want by now
  13. I don't its too much to give up HTR, I'd do that deal actually. I have a bad feeling Hart's best year was last year. And why would we need Gillespie to be ready if we have Winn? Although I wouldnt mind giving Gippespie a look in left with Braun swapping over. Winn would be an awesome 4th, can play anywhere and switch hitter.
  14. I know it's sexy to think about a "prototypical" leadoff hitter with all that speed, but we need guys that get on base, regardless of where they bat. Wright(.389) gets on base a lot more than Reyes(.336), and is a stud defender. Third base is a black hole, SS is a position of strength, adding Wright and anyone different at first improves the infield defese..a lot. 1. Weeks(.352) 2. Wright (.389) > 1. Reyes (.336) 2. Cameron (. 340)
  15. I'd make an aggressive offer for Wright if he's at all available. He improves OBP and defense. I'd do Fielder plus prospects for Wright. Trade Hart for a pitcher, maybe even use him in the Wright trade if necessary and then use the prospects for a pitcher. Move Gamel to right, Nelson at 1st, keep Branyan for the bench and security blanket for Nelson. Bring Kapler back for same role with Gamel. Durham for same role with Weeks. Start Escobar at AAA and if Weeks struggles think about Escobar filling in at 2nd until the SS logjam is situated. 2B Weeks...Durham RF Gamel...Kapler 3B Wright LF Braun SS Hardy 1B Nelson...Branyan CF Cameron C Kendall I think that's a good lineup. Defense is better at 3rd and 1st and likely worse in RF. Maybe bat Hardy 2nd with Gamel 5th, Cam 6th and Nelson 7th, either way. You still have for a rotation: Gallardo Parra (pitcher from Hart/prospects trade) Bush Suppan Have some work to do with the bullpen but I think you still have some money to work with in FA and a few guys (Hall, Dillon, Gwynn) that you can move for some arms and see if they stick. Obviously won't get anything special back for them but if you can get a few more Mota or Torres type moves for guys who are no help to us anyways, then why not.
  16. i would think that them signing cc would make them even more likely and willing to trade cain for offense
  17. His speed is an asset, he has a strong but not always accurate arm, hes bad at second base...for an organization that's willing to try infielders in the outfield, he seems to have some awesome tools to make the switch, worth a try if you ask me.
  18. Didnt see a thread about this and didnt know where else to post this but I just heard on ESPN that Burrell left their workout today with lower back soreness. They didnt say if it was serious at all but it would be nice to take one potent bat out of their lineup
  19. Hate to be a buzz kill on such a great day, but, I wanna win this thing. Any chance Kapler is ready?..
  20. one of his best, all time classic, gave me goosebumps
  21. I didnt mock you, my name is also Jimbo. And I didnt miss a single pitch. We all say things we dont mean when were upset, doesnt mean I gave up. Sorry I ever doubted you Brew Crew!!!
  22. Crazy, I was just doing some random pondering and I was thinking about trading Hart. Preferably for an OF that can play cf or rf and leadoff, and preferably left handed. RF Ichiro SS Hardy LF Braun 1B Prince CF Cameron 3B platoon(Lamb/Hall..Branyan/Hall) 2B Weeks C Kendall not likely but looks fun
  23. I don't think anyone can hit breaking balls that start in the opposite batters box. How on earth does he flail at that pitch so often?
  24. And how did he do in the playoffs?
