  1. I've always believed the original "plan" was to be a legitimate World Series contender by 2020 or 2021. The 2017 season created greater expectations and really put them in a tough situation. Continue with the rebuild, or win now. No proof whatsoever, but my gut says Stearns wanted to continue to play the long game, Mark A wanted to win now. And yes, I do think the plan is to have a "good" team every season going forward and hope for a couple guys to have career years, be hot in September, limit the injuries, etc. Then pick up a player or two at the deadline if you think you can compete in the playoffs. If some or all of that doesn't work out, try that again the following year. Honestly, not much more a small market team can do. They can't go out and build a $200MM roster. It's frustrating, but that comes with being a Brewers fan. It's also what will make it even sweeter when the Brewers win the WS.
  2. Fair to say Cain ended up being a better hitter.
  3. Yea but I don't think Bill Schroeder could play OF, even corner OF.
  4. Joseph probably has it about right at 23. Argument could be made it should be even lower with Peralta graduating and Burnes too by the end of the season. (Not sure how the various sources will handle Burnes.)
  5. This makes ZERO sense! I hate to blast fellow posters, especially since it's against forum rules. But this is so ridiculous, I have to call you out on it. When you have a talent like Mench, why in the world would you platoon him with a disappointing guy like Yelich?
  6. Stop it!!! Are you serious? In his defense I have heard him try to pronounce Jhoulys Chacin before, probably why he just went with Wily Peralta.
  7. Not watching on TV, is Coshun doing play by play? If so, glad I'm following on Game Day.
  8. Chacin: http://www.pixoto.com/images-photography/sports-and-fitness/rodeo-bull-riding/taking-the-bull-by-the-horns-ll-97079198.jpg
  9. I think if we win this game we're still 7 games back or something?
  10. Why can't we be less that 3-2? Baseball is weird (sports in general really.) They could go 2-3 or even 1-4, but go 6-0 vs the Cubs in the final two series. Maybe have an 11 game winning streak at some point. Yea, if they lose two to the Cubs it makes it tougher, as pointed out in another thread that's just math. I just recoil a bit when I hear about must win games when there's still a month and a half of games to play.
  11. Two game sweep will not make us the favorites. Losing both games will cause many to abandon ship, but really doesn't change much of anything. Cubs are the favorites before and after this short series, regardless of what happens. There's still a month and half left, so nothing critical about this series.
  12. He looks scared because he's struggling. If he was mashing the ball that same look would be called focused. I'll also add most of the time a player is in a slump, he looks really awful. Even Braun in his prime would have stretches where he chased sliders way low and outside then watched a fastball down the middle of the plate. Of course, his slumps back then didn't last very long. But he looked every bit as bad when he was in one.
  13. Good thing MLB doesn't have ties like hockey and soccer. Debate about how many games behind would set a new record for number of pages.
  14. It's not totally random as the "Sunday lineup" is a thing for just about every team, not just Milwaukee. I guess our bench just generally has sucked compared to other teams so their scrubs destroy our scrubs. Yes it is, because there is no difference between the Brewers Sunday line-up and any other day or night of the week. It's not like the old days when your bench players barely played. The Brewers really don't have a bench, everyone plays a lot. Even Pina/Kratz, really not a big difference there, plus sometimes it's flipped and Kratz plays the night game before, Pina on Sunday. (Which they just did this weekend.) Plus, we're talking about Braun's day/night splits which has nothing to do with a "Sunday line-up" in general.
  15. Look up the stats for Wednesdays, first game back after an off day, or dates ending in "2." You would likely find the same randomness. I really don't even put much weight on home/away splits, much less day/night splits. Sample size way too small to prove it's anything more than random. If Braun's day/night splits are that drastic for his career then it would get my attention.
  16. I agree, I'm fine with the WR group they have. Plus, not only will more passes go to TE, but I think we'll see more passes to the RBs too. Williams is really good as a receiver out of the backfield, and then there's Montgomery of course. I'm more concerned about the O line than anything else. They could be good if everything falls into place, but not a lot of margin for error there. With an injury or two they could go from "solid" or even really good to a swinging door in a hurry.
  17. Yea, this scares me. Youtube TV was the one I was about to try. I will have anarchy if I go to turn the Packers on in week one and it's not available. So for the pre-season game, did you go to the local channel in Milwaukee (NBC, CBS.....whatever station it was on) and it wasn't available?
  18. Old German Beer Hall, definitely. Not "Brewer related" but there really is no such thing. If you really want that, Fridays right in Miller Park might be worth it for you. Depends what your family likes and how much you want to spend, of course, but there are excellent steak restaurants and Mexican restaurants throughout Dtown and the 3rd Ward. Tosa village has some cool/trendy spots also.
  19. Thanks for the hard work, especially this time- it must have taken a while! Yes, I know I had more DSL/AZL/HEL guys in my Top 25 than ever before. It's hard to justify Diplan at #12, Houser at #13, Grisham at #18, or Ponce on the list at all. But we had to put somebody in those spots. Next year is going to be huge, because right now the system is far from top-heavy, and most of the depth is unproven lower minors guys. Really need a few of them to jump on the scene in a big way. Then it would be nice if we got a couple pleasant surprises like Kirby, Bickford, Tyrone Taylor, etc. Not necessarily those guys in particular but just players with talent that have been around and maybe it finally comes together for them.
  20. Guess CCC wasn't so crazy after all for starting Perez and Shaw. Here's the record on decisions made that were questioned, if you're scoring at home: CCC: 5,784 IGT Posters: 9
  21. If you don't use Jennings against a bunch of lefties in the 7th inning of a 4-2 game, not sure when you are going to use him.
  22. Been saving that one for a while? Lol Yea, didn't expect it would take so long. Was supposed to be for his first HR, but after his start, close enough. Awful joke, but that's why I like it ; )
  23. Someone had him in the last Tops 25 poll: 25 Alwinson Valdez
