  1. I don't think you're oversimplifying all that much. We were all taught in little league to think things through before every pitch. MLB players should be able to do this 100% of the time, but I'll even let the occassional brain fart slide. I really think these guys alwys have "be aggressive" in the back of their minds, because that's what RR preaches, and he's not shy about it. The players and base coaches know they will never be called on the carpet for it.
  2. Not so fast. Crazy high sales at the launch is great, but if they get a lot of bad press and word of mouth that IOS update is a problem, or any other issues it could hurt holiday season- which is when Apple really needs to go to town. But I doubt anything I've heard so far will slow them down.
  3. See, I disagree. The Bucks are coming off rock bottom with some exciting new players and roster flexibility. I don't care about national exposure, the Brewers don't get that either. Personally, I don't like the word "sad" to describe the Brewers, but I'm not optimistic. That won't stop me from watching them, supporting them, and holding out hope. Quite honestly, it comes down to Braun. If his thumb, or any other injuries are chronic and this is the new normal, I just don't feel very good about the the next couple years.
  4. Some would say a franchise going on 45 years without a title is sad.
  5. Logistically how would they move the walls back? The only area they could get rid of without major structural changes is the ATI Club, but I doubt they'd want to get rid of that revenue stream. You'd be surprised, if you really look at the wasted room in many areas beyond the wall, there is definietly room to move it back. They could also raise the wall in some areas also. I think they could change the dimensions fairly significantly without a major rebuild.
  6. Well, the Braves just fired their GM. One could argue he's done a decent job. No guarantee the new GM will do any better, so why make a change? Well, they don't see it that way and neither do I. Of course there's no guarantee that if the Brewers bring in a new GM he'll be better than Melvin. So what? If that was the rationale, no GM or Manager would ever be fired. I think they need to hire a GM from an organization with a history of identifying and developing talent- especially pitching talent. To this day I don't know whether the problem has been drafting or developing, impossible to prove either way. But I'm ready to bring a new crew to take over from top down. Another step they can take is move the walls back in Miller Park. I've said it before, and nobosy has ever commented one way or another, but I'm serious. Maybe it's a coincidence, but the Cards, Dodgers, and Giants all play in big parks. If you're going to develop better pitching, help them by playing in a pitcher friendly park. Finally, Mark A and other small market owners need to be more vocal and take a stand on Intl signings. There's no logical reason these players should be able to skirt the draft and sign wherever they want.
  7. Married filing jointly....the 2nd best advantage of being married so take advantage of it.
  8. Thank you, yes. Point taken, I just noticed my post makes it sound like this type of income is TAXED at a higher rate, which it is not.
  9. Where to begin? You don't think Brewer fans would go crazy if the Cardinals had a promotion for Molina that said don't vote for Lucroy? Even if it was humorous like the Brewers ad, you gotta be kidding me Brewers fans would go nuts. You also don't see Cardinals fans, in general, getting on Braun. There were no steroid, cheater, whatever chants this past series. There, I'm done defending Cardinals fans now. By the way, you do realize feminists and the NRA is a mixed meta... nevermind I'm not going there.
  10. Easy for me to say, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. This will all come out in the wash when you do your tax return. Unless you have to pay a big amount or get a big refund, you don't have an issue. As others have said, bonus, commission, etc. is taxed at a much higher rate. Beyond that, it really shouldn't vary unless it's a really weird payroll system.
  11. I don't agree with that. If that was true, you really don't need coaches or a manager at all. GOOD coaches find a way to get through to a player. I'll agree no coach can change every player, but I would hope a good coach could help some of them. With that said, I do agree it's more on the players themselves than anything else. It's why I wanted to trade Braun before this season. Gomez too if the price is right. I'm sick of watching almost our entire line-up swing at fastballs at their eyebrows and sliders a foot off the plate. We caught lightning in a bottle with Gomez, but there's just no way he could maintain the OBP/OPS he's had for about a year with his approach to hitting.
  12. RR had several options in the 8th inning, and picked the worst. He could have left Lohse in for another batter. Then, bring in Duke to face their leftys. Or, at least put Duke in to face Adams. Taking Lohse out is a judgement call. I would have left him in, but I can see the reverse argument. But not having Duke face Adams was just a horrible baseball decision, and it likely cost them the game. All because of nothing more than a stubborn unwritten rule that 8th inning guy must complete the inning. He will use 4 pitchers in the 6th inning for a game in May, but with everything on the line he doesn't play the match-ups in the 8th inning of a close game. I don't get it.
  13. What that shows me is pitches per PA is not an indicator of success at the plate. Scooter, Aramis, and Gomez are all well below league average, yet they have a high batting avg. Reynolds sees the most pitches, and is the worst hitter (by batting avg.) Really doesn't surprise me though, taking pitches just for the sake of taking them isn't a very good approach to hitting. Remember, pitchers these days are on strict pitch counts. They don't want to waste pitches. If you get a meatball for the first pitch, you take a cut. I have no problem with that. Swinging at too many pitches out of the strike zone is the problem for this team, and I remember seeing evidence of that somewhere- I believe Fangraphs.
  14. They already research their own players, before and after they sign them. They do have private investigators, etc. that keep tabs on what their players do off the field. NFL does this one their own as well. Oppo research is interesting, never thought of that...
  15. Well, I don't think the Cards are better than the Brewers because Molina whines, or RR doesn't. They have a better line-up, better rotation, and better bulllpen. That may have something to do with why they're leading the division.
  16. All they have to do is keep winning series. If they do that, they will be one game behind the Pirates going into the final series of the season. That starts tonight against the Cards, obviously. If they lose tonight, plan B is sweep the Pirates. Neither of these roads to the playoffs are easy, but they still (for the most part) control their own destiny. If there was ever a time for a Ryan Braun hot streak it is right now.
  17. I don't know, I think the NFL has handled this pretty well. They have been out in front, Goodell has even been criticized for over-policing the league when players have had off the filed issues. Also, for many years now the NFL has held their rookie forum where they try to teach incoming players how to conduct themselves, what to avoid, etc. No other pro sports league does that to this day, as far as I know. This Ray Rice, Peterson, Hardy, etc. issue is the perfect storm, and I think they've handled it pretty well.
  18. Exactly. Then, if there's a real emergency after all those guys you still have Lucroy and Braun that could man the position.
  19. Serious question. What has RR been calling Hector Gomez? There's already a Gomey, so I'm assuming their can't be two? Is it "ol Hecty?"
  20. I think .230/.280/.420/.700 is far more likely. But that's just me. I very much hope I'm wrong. We could use a solid 1B for the next few years. I think both are valid projections, depends in part on how they use him. His splits were very similar this year in Nashville, but I don't see that continuing at the MLB level facing nasty LHP. If he is protected from facing a lot of LHP, I can see him getting close to .800.
