  1. It really is a joke Fridays is the restaurant they chose. I thought it was lame when it opened, even worse now. But stuck with it I guess. My idea would be to get rid of beer vendors. There's enough drunks, don't make it even easier for them. Yes, I realize this will never happen. But aren't the Brewers concerned about the liability involved with over-serving? I enjoy beer, but I'm getting to be an old fart so all the drunken language and actions going on around me has become the worst part of attending games by far.
  2. Projections miss too many variables, so I pay little/no attention to them. First, most teams really only have a handful of players where you can feel comfortable making a fairly exact projection. Too many inconsistent players, young players, etc. Use of defensive shifts was another good example. Biggest issue though is they don't take into account how a player is used. For example, using Shaw almost exclusively vs RHP would give you different numbers than vs all pitching. But where this really goes off the rails is use of the pitching staff. Last season Chacin, Miley, Suter, etc. destroyed their projections due to how they were used. Stats are projected using the old definitions and use of starting pitchers. It doesn't take into account limiting exposure the 3rd time through the line-up, where ERAs really bloom.
  3. Ya, I never get that reason either. Especially for baseball players. How much "free time" do they even have during a home stand? A couple hours in the morning? Also when someone choses a team because their Spring Training complex in near where they live. I guess the extra 6 weeks at home is nice but you're still spending 6 months somewhere else. Why would he ever pick Milwaukee when he generally has the pick of just about anywhere he wants? If his youth and skill were not as good as they are he'd have less choices because contract size would be a larger factor, but he was going to be filthy rich either way. In fact, all bias would point to Milwaukee being among the last places he'd pick. Not because it's terrible here but because of team history, overall payroll expectations and market size. Don't get me wrong, Milwaukee's reputation is on an upswing, but it's still Milwaukee and there are still clear biases attached to Milwaukee. I think many players would like to play here but even so I don't think it would ever be a player's first choice. Circumstances would have to be right like in the Cain signing. Oh yea, I get that. I'm not surprised at all he didn't pick Milwaukee. Foreign players probably barely know the Brewers, and almost certainly don't even have any idea where Milwaukee is, or what it's like.
  4. As of 1/1/19 Time Warner Sports channel is dead. Spectrum bought TWC of course, and finally killed off this channel. I always enjoyed Dennis Krause Show, he had a lot of interesting guests over the years. Also watched his Roundtable show sometimes. (BTW, it was also cool that this station had HS sports, TRats games, etc. over the years.) If you go to that channel now, it will say tune to channel 1, which looks like a news station that just recycles a newscast every 15 minutes but no other programming. Does anyone know if Dennis is resurfacing on Spectrum or anywhere else? Anyone aware if Spectrum will create a channel for local sports programming in general?
  5. To be fair, Bud has had the luxury of sitting starters (including Giannis) very often in the 4th quarter due to blow-outs. I don't think their minutes would be any less this year if they had mostly close games.
  6. I get it, but then again I don't. Why would he have to live in Milwaukee? How many current Brewers live in Milwaukee? Having a condo to crash during homestands doesn't count. That's the part I never understand whenever this comes up, whether it be international players or FAs here that prefer a certain area. What does it matter? 5 months out of the year live wherever you want. One month you're in AZ or FL, the other 6 months is really just one long road trip regardless of where you "live."
  7. They are competing for the best record in the NBA, home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Now is not the time for try-outs. Plus, they know what they have in Wood, he doesn't need to play a bunch or at all for them to evaluate him. That said, Bud has shown a pattern of giving a young player a bunch of minutes for a few games. My guess is he would love to give Wood some run, but when everything is clicking as it has been, makes it hard to disrupt that. Side note, it's amazing how they've been able to cruise through so many games. And by "cruise" I don't mean giving half effort or playing lazy. They've been able to build leads, and as the NBA goes sure the other team has runs but you rarely feel threatened. All this while Giannis and the team in general still haven't hit their ceiling.
  8. Dubon. I think he's the answer to more than one question being asked around here, including this one.
  9. I wouldn't hire a coach because of "x" is really an old way of thinking. He's too young/ too old. Offensive/ Defensive background. College coach. I could go on and on. MLB and NBA are breaking out from old ways of thinking, time the Packers do as well. The right person could have virtually any type of background and experience, just get it right.
  10. Yeah, what’s that about? Last chance for the happy couple to be able to file married filing jointly for 2018?
  11. Thon Maker is never going to be a Bob Lanier type of center. But to say he hasn't put on muscle since he came to Milwaukee just isn't true. Yea, I get he's still thin but it's not like he's Manute Bol. It's also not true that he doesn't mix it up, he's more than willing to be physical. Finally, Maker and Wilson play different positions. Maker is a 5, Wilson is a 4. Which means Maker will at times be matched up against monster centers that are hard to handle in the post. Wilson doesn't play against those guys, or he would be destroyed in the post also. Maker has his weaknesses, don't get me wrong. As wallus said, he has awful hands. That hurts his rebounding ability. But look at how many possessions he impacts on defense. Blocks, alters, tipping away passes, etc. Plus he's nimble enough to get out to defend 3s. You're just trying not to like him if you don't think he's a presence on defense.
  12. I wish I could have had a support panther to deal with stress of family get- togethers. Then I could activate said panther into a weapon when necessary.
  13. Nothing is preventing them from getting Solarte or anyone else. Spagenberg may not even be on the MLB roster. If he is, it's realistic for him to hit .825 OPS vs RHP- not bad at all. I don't have time to look, but I bet that's way better than the production they got last year out of 2B vs RHP.
  14. Even Hill, with his bad facial expressions and all, had a good night. Couple of huge 3s at the end of quarters to stop big runs from New Orleans.
  15. A double secret plan even Counsel doesn't know about, I can't wait! For those unaware, we had a poster last year who claimed to know things about FA and trades, I won't dignify him by mentioning his name. But he later admitted it was all a hoax. Most of us didn't believe him in the first place, but many did. It caused a lot of angst and was a big waste of time. True Blue, I don't believe for a second that's what you're doing here. You've been a solid contributor, and you're not purposely trying to create any drama. But you can't just casually throw out "I know things you don't know." Throughout this topic you have changed the details of how you "know" they will use the staff. Making it pretty easy to later claim "I told you so" when any one of those things happen. We all know they will continue to be creative with the pitching staff, Stearns recently said it himself. If you want to float how you THINK the will do it, or how you WANT them to do it that's fair game. We all have opinions. But please don't come in here with "I know something" without any context.
  16. Holy cow, it's a joke man. Yea, it will be interesting to see what MLB does to attract the next generation of fans. I'm guessing they want more scoring and faster games, but no matter what they do baseball is simply not a non-stop action sport. I always wonder if MLB would/should appeal to the young tech crowd. There's millions of them, and baseball seems to be a good fit for those with an analytical mind, interest in math, etc.
  17. There is money though. You can't really target old people, you have to find a way to engage young people or the sport is gonna be in big trouble. All those old people in FL are really doing a great job supporting those teams. How? Instead of a family section, have a "safe zone" section? Change the rules so there can be a tie in every game?
  18. Portland is the opposite of what you look for in demographics. Very young, and I just don't think they would support MLB. It's why NBA and MLS are huge there- those are the popular sports for young people.
  19. Dude made a typo. He admitted it. And I think it was pretty obvious it was a typo even from the start - especially if you add up the money totals - which you did. Then raking him because because his 'something like $40M' actually adds up to $41M? I don't get it. Not really obvious with possible deferrals that the Brewers like to do on big free agent contracts. Then he used a contract the Cubs gave out and tried to relate that to the Brewers which is just an awful comparison. Could I have been a little more courteous; especially on the 40 million? Perhaps. Yes. Fixed, let's move on.
  20. Agree on Snell, he's fine for his roll but they will likely need that $8MM (or whatever it is) in cap space next year. And they should be able to move him because he would be a nice fit for a lot of teams. I really like the way Coach Bud throws in a reserve player with the starters early in a game. Really hard to get a read on a player when they only play at garbage time with other end of the bench players. He did it at the start of the year with Donte, and has done it with Connaughton, Sterling Brown, Thon, and now DJ Wilson. Sounds obvious, but you don't see it that much in the NBA, giving a guy the chance to shine early in a game with the starters.
  21. I would suggest looking into Charles Schwab. I've used them for over 30 years now, and customer service has been outstanding. I also like the fact they have physical offices to visit, which I rarely need but nice to have. I even have our checking account there, mainly so I can log on and see everything in one place. But another nice perk is they refund all ATM fees no matter what the ATM network is. (I remember once I needed $20 and ATM fee was $8.50.) As others have said, most of my money is in S&P 500 tracking funds. Schwab has their own funds now, as they all do, fees are extremely low on their own ETFs.
  22. It was only one game, but at least we see what the Bucks see in him. It gives me even more hope Brian G just may be a really good GM. Hired the right coach, great signings this off-season, great trade recently to shed salary. It bothered me a little he picked up the option on him, as I really thought it was just a wasted pick and move on. Now at least there's hope with DJ Wilson. The way the East is shaping up, there are 5 teams all very close. Philly arguably has the most talent, but have some attitudes to deal with. Will be interesting to see if the Bucks make any moves.
  23. Yea, I wonder too. I consider myself a fairly typical Milwaukee sports fan. That is, a marginal interest in NHL but would probably turn into a big fan if Milwaukee had a team. That said, I seriously doubt Milwaukee could support both NBA/NHL long term. My guess is NHL would have stuck, and the Bucks would have moved. This season the Bucks are 19-9, have Giannis, and the allure of a brand new arena. But they're still promoting deals for tickets, which tells us they still have an issue selling out. I know I've been able to find reasonable tickets on the secondary market too- even weekend games. With a winning team, the draw of Giannis, and a brand new shiny arena they shouldn't be having a problem selling tickets. The NBA is exploding in popularity across the country, and the world. Little ol' Milwaukee actually has a team, but I think it's taken for granted.
  24. Without seeing it, I would guess "short term" refers to short term bonds, the other 7% bonds would be intermediate/ long term bonds. 35% foreign stock seems like a lot. Just MY own personal preference, I don't have any foreign stock anymore. Not implying it's wrong to have any. Years ago, it made more sense to diversify that way. These days, all the world markets more or less work in tandem. It's rare that the US markets are down and other major world markets are up. So I figure it's enough work to try to stay on top of individual domestic stocks and markets, why invest in something else. I differentiate between income stocks and growth stocks, way more important that domestic vs foreign. But again, that's just my opinion. For example, the difference between a domestic growth stock and an income stock is far more important to understand and balance. If I had 65% domestic growth and 35% foreign growth, I don't consider that diversified.
  25. She wasn't "duped." She supported what was best for all, not just looking out for herself and the fat cat hacks that run the union. Her district ended up saving a ton of money on health insurance as a result of Act 10.
