  2. It's just begun. Now is the time to go to Greinke and Marcum with extension offers.
  3. really?? enjoy the moment. Who isn't enjoying this? "Randy Wolf getting one of his battery mates." Wait, what, when has Wolf pitched to Lucroy?

  5. Alright Green at 3B and Hariston at SS. Wait what? Nevermind. Sweet lineup DPR.
  6. Gamel could probably play either at least as well defensively as Hart. SS is the one position we really can't fill internally right now and don't have a current good option.
  7. They push aside things like team chemistry, momentum,, hustle as if they have nothing to do with the success of an individual player or team. Some of that gets pushed off to the side not because of stats but for stats instead. There are enough examples of players not liking each other on good teams or good teams not getting along that chemistry can be considered anecdotal. Then there is the whole "the team looks flat" line of thinking that seems to follow around teams while they are losing. Are they losing because they are flat or are they flat because they are losing. I don't totally discount teams playing better/worse because of how they feel but I think it is pretty small compared to their actual talent. Now I think that because I believe most of the mentally weak players get filtered out in the minors.
  8. Why would they nontender him if they can trade him for something of value?
  9. The problem I have with advanced stats is that some are not true math. Uzr and WAR are examples. Sure some amount of these stats involve math to make them look and feel objective, but they're not. I hate when people pull out stats with obvious flaws and use them to paint broad strokes about all advanced stats. I hate when people refuse to even look at OBP or OPS because they are "advanced stats." They are stats that are good enough in 98% of cases and are not very hard to calculate by yourself. Yes, he's having a bad year at the plate. But over his first 1000+ career plate appearances - no small sample by any means - he demonstrated being a ~.800 OPS hitter. Why the dropoff this year? Maybe his personal problems were effecting his play. Maybe he just wasn't as good as his first 2 years showed which was a small sample compared tho his MiLB stats which were nowhere near as good. Of course you know all this as it has been discussed ad nauseum.
  10. Not true. They are mostly useless for evaluating player because they are based more on batting order than actual talent. They probably tell you more about where a player hit in the order than how well they hit. Not true. A high BABIP is an indication that a player may have had good luck. A low BABIP is an indication that a player might be having bad luck. Again not true. Wins and losses are somewhat out of a pitches control. They can't control how many runs their own team scores and have very limited control over what happens when a ball is put in play. Baldkin covered this one.
  11. We have $56m in payroll for 2012 in just 6 guys.(Greinke, Gallardo, Hart, Braun, Wolf and Weeks) Quite a few guys going to arby and even more in arby after 2012. Not sure we have the money for fat Elvis especially for 2 years.
  12. Look down a little further at the rectangle chart. I originally came across this stuff on Madison Beer Review.
  13. If you are interested in who makes your beer. 8 Beers Americans no longer drink.
  14. Starting Yuni and McGehee is borderline insane at this point. That is the definition of insanity isn't it? Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. The really disappointing part is this was totally expected.
  15. I just like the fact the Yuni can at least make contact agianst just about any pitcher on a regular basis. So could most MLB hitters. They just prefer to actually try and make good contact instead of flailing at almost everything.

  17. The players write the lineup.
  18. I have never had to do a swing shift but I used to work second shift and had to work 1st shift 5-6 weeks during the year. I never adjusted to 1st shift during the week I had to get up early.
  19. For what he is being used for right now, he is above average. Look at other bench players in the league and you will see that he is well above average. I cannot stress enough that I don't care how he compares to the average bench player or other players on other teams in his role. We have better options. To say anything different, you just have a ingrained bias that will never change, no matter the evidence proving otherwise. That is false. We should not accept a guy just because he is average if we have a better option. I am biased against having crappy players on ouyr team when we have better options. If we were not playoff bound I would be a little more willing to accept Kotsay to save some service time. And to bring Kotsay up in a Gamel thread is pointless too, seeing that they play different positions. Gamel isn't a left handed bench bat who could play terrible defense in a corner outfield position or back up 1B?
  20. For all the Kotsay bashing I think by now we can say he proved us wrong. .321/.371/.692 with crappy defense is not playing well. He is almost exactly what we expected. A really poor hitter and defender who should have been replaced at the first opportunity. The only thing Gamel has going for him over Kotsay is power, and while it would be nice to have some on the bench, I wouldn't say its worth replacing Kotsay over. OBP and power. He should have been replaced and I still hold a slim hope he is left off the playoff roster. He should have been left in Arizona. I take the first part back after looking at his splits. He has been practically useless in the only role he should have been used for. His vs RHP splits on the year (.308/.365/.673). There is really no reason he should be on the team.
  21. The manager also said after the game that Weeks didn't quite look right at the plate yet.
  22. It sounds like he's in a lot of pain. I'm not sure why they would let him come in as a late game replacement at this point, it's not like they needed him to play. I think RR needs to rest his key players when he can. Well that is very disappointing.
  23. Into what? The fact he didn't get called up? Green got called up instead? We have Mark Kotsay on our team when Gamel is more than likely a better hitter. Unless the organization has something against him I see no reason Gamel shouldn't at least be up on the bench. You're right, Kotsay's dead meat at this point. He can't hit major league pitching. I, for one, don't want to see him pinch-hit during the postseason. (I tried to select the deepest shade of blue possible.) You are right. Kotsay had a good game so that proves that he belongs in the majors. In other news even blind squirrels sometimes find nuts.
