  1. Gah, why would you put in McGehee for Gamel but not Gomez for Kotsay? Man does Kotsay suck. I didn't realize McGehee was in for Gamel. Step away to check on the kids and you miss something.
  2. I thought the band was going to be Dave Kerwin with Rewind Yourself as his first single.
  3. It really does seem at times that some managers are using a magic 8 ball to make decisions. Either that or a tic-tac-toe playing chicken.
  4. Didn't they find in The Book that pitchers would have hot streaks but not cold streaks?
  5. He is when there are better options. That is the one and only thing I care about. I don't care what other teams have as bench players. The only thing we should care about is if we have the 25 best players in our organization on the MLB squad. As of right now, we have better players in AAA than some of our players. Is it just flat out dumb not to make a move. If we are not competing for the playoffs, fine, leave a guy in the minors to develop or keep his service time down.
  6. Which is why you assume that like most other hitters he will hit opposite handed pitching better. Best case scenario is that Gamel's power will be mostly nullified.
  7. I realize it's now traditional to rip on the lineup hours before the start of every game Not everybody rips on the lineup for every game. There is always somebody who will not like the lineup. I'm sure either Gamel or Kotsay will be pulled for either McGehee and/or Gomez anyway. How is pulling Gamel for either of those guys good? Why force a situation on yourself if you don't have to? If you split up the lefties you force the other guy to make adjustments instead of yourself. Make him react while doing nothing yourself. He either has to walk a guy or bring in a different pitcher which would work too your advantage. 3 lefties in a row is terrible strategy.
  8. Just watched it, and McGehee broke to 3rd for some reason, otherwise, he should have been able to make that play. That was a long way Yuni to go, even if he had range to that side. Yeah I didn't know how close Yuni was but I though it would have been an easy play for McGehee. My guess is McGehee was going to cover 3B in case of a steal attempt, I think.(nevermind, it was the pitcher at 2B, Mcgehee must have had a brain fart or something) I am sure part of the frustration on my part was watching two botched caught stealings the previous inning and watching their pitcher hit a double.
  9. Hah, the sign of a good manager is lowered expectations.
  10. Hate the lineup. 3 straight lefties, terrible. I don't like taking Weeks out of the leadoff spot but in this case he should be #2. Stacking those lefties is making things way to easy on the Reds.
  11. I am not sure why this is a WAR discussion and I don't really think it is relevant. Even at this point in the season we shouldn't be changing our opinions on players much since the start of the season. Other than McGehee, the players that are the problem are the players we knew were going to be a problem at the start. The stink and we knew that from day one. If we have half a team of negative WAR guys and no way to replace them then there isn't much to do except look at trades. That isn't the problem. We have guys in the minors who would make our team better. It is beyond ridiculous that we stick with players we knew were bad from the start and continue to stink. If you thought McGehee was the guy who put up a .800 OPS with solid defense from 2009-2010 then you adjust those expectations down a bit. I never thought he was that guy. I thought he was more on the level of a platoon guy to begin with. Certainly not a guy who should be guaranteed a starting job this year. I don't see what bringing up Green to take some starts from McGehee does to hurt us at this point. McGehee isn't performing for whatever reason.
  12. I think you are giving them a lot of credit. Thanks for the laugh though.
  13. I was at the game and there was a ground ball in the bottom of the third inning that went right past McGehee and Betancourt. Neither made any effort whatsoever to try fielding it. Did that look as bad on TV as it did in person?
  14. Hawkins was just coming in as I left the stadium. I was thinking, "why the crap is Hawkins in there instead of Braddock?" So I guess, yes, I have to agree that DPR has some problem with Braddock. He seems to understand splits on some level or at the very least knows they exist.
  15. Casey is as good offensively as Hardy was so he will get the same amount of time to work through it. You would expect better production out of 3B than SS though. One position is a defense first position and the other, despite many 3B not being as good in recent years, is still more of an offense position.
  16. Betancourt and Hardy are really different circumstances. With JJ we had a stud up and coming SS. With Betancourt we have nobody. I am not sure how much longer McGehee will get but this isn't exactly the same circumstances as Hardy since the team is supposed to contend this year. They were really bad the year Hardy was sent down. At least in the second half they were. Going by what happened in 2009, McGehee won't go down until our team starts to suck and is out of the race.
  17. Most hitters probably hit better at home unless they play in an extreme pitchers park.
  18. I'm not so sure he is ready to contribute now at the level Casey has been the last two years. I am not sure McGehee will ever play at the level he did in 2009-2010. I don't think a .750 OPS would be much of a surprise going forward. Add in below average defense and I see no reason he shouldn't at the very least be platooned.
  19. [quote author=Polish Falcons wrote: [/b]Where do you find this information? Would it be possible to post other teams? Is it normal to expect positive WAR from 8/8 players on a team and say anything with negative WAR is "putrid"? At least for me this is totally out of context, and I'm not really familiar with WAR, but I would expect that most teams have a mix of players above and below replacement. Without seeing the league wide data I would guess the Brewers WAR mix is somewhere between normal and good compared to the rest of the league. Otherwise every team in the league would be on pace for 100 wins. You can find this information at Fangraphs. Doesn't matter what other teams have for players. We don't have the best players available to us on the MLB team.
