  1. Because often people like to have set roles for their jobs. Players aren't robots and just like the average employee they like to know what their employer wants from them. Sure they like set roles. Tell them to be ready before the 9th inning and after the starter goes out. There is your set role. They know what is expected.
  2. Of the teams over the last few years where the brewers had a chance to be competitive this is the team that I like the least.... That really is true for me also. I am not enjoying this season as much as I should. Yost may or may not have been as good as DPR but he wasn't given the talent DPR has this year and he at least went through some bad times with us.
  3. So would Green. Was Betemit hurt during the 2007-2008 seasons? His defense doesn't look like anything special. Not much of an improvement over Kotsay. His 2010 and 2011 could very easily be BABIP driven.
  4. In terms of predictive value, 33 AB's is really no more useful than 10 AB's. Why should we focus on what a player has done in the past week rather than the past three years? Any reasonable projection has Gomez hitting nearly as well as Kotsay, some have Gomez hitting better. He also doesn't let line drives go through his legs in the outfield like Kotsay (that's line drives, plural). To be fair he didn't let a couple line drives go through his legs. They were no hit hard enough to be line drives.
  5. 33 AB are not predictive. Not compared to the hundreds upon hundreds where he stunk before this. There is no way we should look at a measly 33 AB instead of those hundreds and make any kind of meaningful decision.
  6. My views on McGhee are posted elsewhere. To answer your original question, at no point this season will our road record ever be predictable. It is technically a trend right now. I am not sure we should expect that trend to continue. As Russ pointed out it isn't all bad luck. We are probably playing a little below our talent on the road but most teams will play above or below their true talent on the road or at home. 2 teams with identical talent can easily be 10 games apart in the standings. Maybe we haven't played the Astros and Pirates on the road enough. Maybe we have been a little unlucky catching more than our share of top of the rotation starters on the road. There could be any number of explanations or combination of explanations as to the difference between our home and road record. It is even tough to tell our true talent level.
  7. 150 PA is only about a month and a half. You need at least a year and people usually use 3 years when looking at it.
  8. That would be a much better lineup. It has and Fielder has had one of his best years, if not the best, in his career. I would much much rather have the 5 hole being a question instead of the top 4 spots in the order. "Cut off the nose to spite the face" comes to mind with the lineups yesterday and today.
  9. Russ, I'm not singling out you, or anyone else, but it seems over the past 12 to 18 months, any discussion that even hinges on soemthing that can't be statistically measured is scoffed at, if not outright dismissed here anymore. It can be statistically measured that we are bad on the road. I think the problem some people have is that when people talk about it they talk about it as if it is predictive. We have been bad on the road. Should we expect that to continue though? Predictive vs descriptive.
  10. One month. Way to random to have any meaning whatsoever other than trivia.
  11. I am not sure I understand what you are saying here. The whole discussion, as I understand it, is that DPR has constructed this lineup poorly. Weeks shouldn't be as low as he is. We shouldn't stack 3 lefties. I don't think Roenicke should have reconstructed the lineup in the first place. Now because it worked once he for some reason decided to stick with it.
  12. 4 more losses. That really isn't much though. A couple close games going the wrong way and a couple bad starts.
  13. I don't think most people disagree with you that having 2 ROOGYs(Loe and Dillard) on the team and no LOOGYs is bad. We just wish DPR would see them for what they are and use them appropriately. Hawkins having a short leash and Loe no leash is troublesome as well.
  14. Hart in the leadoff spot and Weeks fifth seemed to work. Who else was going to bat third? We did something dumb yesterday and is somehow worked out, let's do it again. I know everyone on this board vehemently hates Kotsay, but he has been fine. No he really hasn't. He is a horrible defender and a crappy hitter. Gomez may not hit as well but he is a far superior defender. Given Coors Field field dimensions improving our defense would probably more than make up for the difference in hitting. Miller Park Coors Field
  15. This really seems like a great time to optimize use of our pitchers. We have 2-3 very good relievers. Why limit ourselves by assigning arbitrary roles?
  16. There is not much reason to expect Betemit to continue hitting well this year.
  17. Guess I will get it out of the way. Yost Sunday give-up lineup.
  18. Good last year, good this year, nothing special in the minors, not much of a defender. We already have that guy except he was good in 2009 and 2010.
  19. Also I am pretty confident that if he had a good lefty to use; he would have used him there. Why? He has shown a pattern of using Loe against lefty after lefty all season. Nothing DPR has done suggests he has any clue Loe is a ROOGY.
  20. Dread Pirate Roenicke. As I watch the game I find myself saying inconceivable at so many of the things he does.
  21. I would have to agree with that. Melvin has been really frustrating this year. I have given him the benefit of the doubt but his handling of the fringe areas of this roster in addition to McGehee and Betancourt has been really beyond poor.
  22. A parked car has pretty good range if it is parked sideways. I knew someone would call me out. Couldn't think of anything else at the time.I am sure you were thinking of a Metro parked straight on. McGehee might be able to cover more ground than that.
