  1. I never said he should be benched, not since the season started. I said he should lose some playing time to Taylor Green. I didn't think he would sustain his numbers from previous years and was probably more the level of a platoon type guy to begin with. My opinion of him hasn't changed.
  2. Are they confident because they are successful or are they successful because they are confident? How much is one influenced by the other? Which has a bigger influence?
  3. That is clutch? That isn't much better than his career MLB numbers other than the bases loaded OPS. I wouldn't call those numbers clutch. Looks like a bunch of random splits to me.
  4. Wilson in LF? Inconceivable. Not even the best option on the team. I can't believe that with all the special infield shifting that so little consideration is given to outfield defense when deciding who starts.
  5. Ehh, this is a bad stretch when we were expected to have a bad stretch. A big part of it over the last few weeks has been the brutal interleague schedule which we knew would be bad. We have needed to make changes for a while now and as others have pointed out most can be made internally. These changes were being called for at least a month ago when things were going well and are not knee jerk reactions in most cases. Green and Boggs up and Kotsay and one of the SS cut are pretty obvious moves to be made. While not major positions they can make a big impact especially when you take the leverage of the PA's into consideration.
  6. There was no reason to move Lawrie off of 2B until Weeks signed.
  7. No problem. That feature has been around for a long time. Several years.
  8. He has almost complete control which relief pitchers pitch. Loe is a ROOGY and should almost never face left handed hitters especially if Braddock is available yet somehow Loe is the 8th inning guy™. That's 100% on DPR.
  9. Kotsay's probably the least of the concerns right now, but it's magnified with Braun out. I completely disagree. Kotsay is a major concern as long as DPR keeps running him out there as much as he does. Even when everybody is healthy Kotsay keeps getting playing time. Kotsay is holding the bench hostage. He needs to go.
  10. There are a lot of things they could do and most start with getting rid of Kotsay. There really isn't a need to go outside the organization to improve.
  11. Cappy would probably still be around. I'm as disappointed with Greinke as I was about Mass Effect. The results did not live up to the hype. I disagree with the analogy. Mass Effect was awesome.
  12. Oh heck yes there is. On the bottom left side of each post there is an "interact" button. Click on it and you get a drop down menu. Then click on "ignore user's posts." You will be asked if you really want to ignore all that user's posts. Works great. I have a few users on ignore. You can still read their posts if you want but if there are some posters who post things that really bug you, it will mark their posts so you can prepare yourself before reading.
  13. Was there a good reason Gamel was replaced on defense but Kotsay wasn't? We have one of the best outfielders in baseball on our bench and wanted our defense improved but he wasn't called upon. I didn't have a problem with Kotsay being in the game at the time because I was only catching bits and pieces on the radio and didn't realize Gamel was replaced on defense. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw Wilson came in on defense for Gamel though. If you want to just stick with your starters, fine. If you are going to make defensive replacements put in your best guys. Gomez is arguably our best defender and one fo only 2 plus defenders we have yet he sat the bench while the game slipped away.
  14. So because JJ Hardy, a 4+WAR shortstop for the previous two seasons, was unable to hit well in AAA over a span of 2 weeks, he didn't earn his way back? This is an organization that is still starting Yuniesky Betancourt, playing Mark Kotsay, and up until last week starting Casey McGehee. He either should not have been sent down in the first place or should have been left down till he got things worked out. They did neither.
  15. Well...we could have avoided the huge Betancourt thread and that constant discussion...I personally would love to see that. It would have been replaced by a 30 page Escobar thread and a 60 page "Who Should Be Our 5th Pitcher?" thread.
  16. Your just replacing an average player with another one. That really isn't the case though. The players who people want replaced are not average. They are well below average and hurting the team. The players people want to bring up are at least average with the possibility of them actually being good.
  17. Right and there was no reason to bring Hardy back up either. He hit poorly while he was down in AAA. He didn't play his way back.
  18. Did Fielder get more votes than Pujols? I believe Pujols isn't eligible because he is on the DL.
  19. Sure SS is a much bigger need. However, we have 3B options in the system. We would have to give up players to get a SS.
  20. We did get that cash from the Yankees for Mitre... Kotsay has no value on the field that couldn't easily be replaced by 3-4 guys we have in AAA. Green would most likely be a better bench bat with the added bonus of being able to spell McGehee at 3B 2-3 times a week. Boggs could probably match his production plus he can play defense and is a switch hitter. Gamel could easily better what Kotsay brings to the team on offense and defense.(Gamel can't play CF but neither can Kotsay.) That is 3 I know of without really even trying. Of course I would prefer Gamel stay in AAA til about the end of August to keep playing 1B for next year. After that, Gamel up for the rest of the year wouldn't effect him much since the AAA season is almost over and it wouldn't effect his service time.
  21. The Vintage and Great Dane stopped serving SAB/Miller products a couple weeks back. Not sure if they are serving them again. It has been really hard to find information on Motion 414. I think it is important to remember that even though we love craft beer, we only represent 5% of the beer drinking population at most.
  22. You can be the most valuable player in baseball even if your team doesn't win the most games. That isn't how it gets voted though.
  23. The small ball has cost us as well. As has putting Kotsay in CF. DPR has some control over the roster as well. Right or wrong he gets to have a lot of input on the bench bats and probably the bullpen.
  24. So protection is more important than getting guys on base in front of Braun and Fielder. Good job DPR.
  25. I think it is 5 years before a player has to give consent to be optioned. Service-time landmarks 3 years A player with at least 3 years of Major League service is eligible for arbitration. (Eligibility for arbitration also is extended to players just shy of 3 full years of service. See Super Two.) In addition, a 3-year player may not be removed from the 40-man roster without his permission. The player may choose to be released immediately or at the end of the season. 5 years A player with at least 5 years of Major League service may not be demoted to the minor leagues on optional assignment without his consent. A 5-year player who refuses an optional assignment to the minors must be offered his release. A player with 5 years of service who has been traded in the middle of a multi-year contract may, during the off-season, require his new team to either trade him or let him become a free agent. If the player is eventually traded, he's not eligible to demand a trade again under the current contract and loses free agency rights for 3 years. However, the 2007-11 CBA eliminated this right for players signing multi-year contracts under the new CBA. Players signed to multi-year deals before the effective date of the 2007-11 CBA retain the right to demand a trade if traded during the life of their current contracts. 6 years A player with at least 6 years of service is eligible for free agency. 10 years A player with at least 10 years of service may not be traded or assigned without his consent, provided the player has spent the last 5 years with his current team.
