  1. A parked car has pretty good range if it is parked sideways.
  2. That's on DPR. Move up Lucroy and he will knock the runs in.
  3. Not sure why Rickie protecting Prince and getting more RBI opportunities is a bad thing. It gives fewer PA for Fielder and Braun with hitters on base. Protection is also a myth. Walking Fielder is not a bad thing for us. It puts more guys on base. You obviously don't believe that but have been around here long enough to have read a few threads about it so I am not going to bother wasting my time trying to change your mind. This. It is never going to happen though. More OBP at the top of the order. I would argue against Fielder 3rd but batting our 5th best hitter leadoff(Morgan is better than Hart against a RHP) makes no sense. I know it is only one game but if people are going to talk up this lineup then I will point out the flaws.
  4. it is nice to see our 3 best hitters in the 3-4-5 Why? This gives our best hitter one fewer AB than the top guys. I don't like this lineup. Looks like panic to me.
  5. Depending on run distribution teams will easily play 6 games better or worse than their talent.
  6. The only thing I would change is making teams give up their picks and limit the number of Type A players teams can sign. Instead of having to give up a pick I would just add picks to the first round. Not sure the union would go for that though.
  7. Not a bad deal for either side. Not really surprising either. I believe the Orioles have some good minor league talent so they might be in on Fielder next year.
  8. You can't tie it to payroll. Any hint that teams would be rewarded for paying players less and the players union will balk. You can't reward teams for purposely tanking.
  9. I mean, it's a serious question though, it seems like EVERYTHING around here lately is 'it's bad luck', 'it's bad luck', 'it's bad luck.'. Whenever something is happening, that is not up to expectations (Greinke, road performance), it's not just a poor performance, it's 'bad luck'. I don't think it is bad luck. It is a fine line but I would say it is random variance. Their bad games just happen to be on the road. Maybe there is some reason for it but it isn't readily discernible.
  10. and some of the players we expected to be stars are not performing as well as we had expected. I think this team was expected to only win 86ish games so it really could be looked at as we are performing about to our talent on the road and way over our heads at home.
  11. Could be true in Minnesota though.
  12. 4th or 5th?? Just curious, but what other positions are of more concern for you if the bullpen is maybe 5th on your list? 3B, SS and bench off the top of my head. SS being the only one of the 3 we can't upgrade internally. There is no way we can say that until we know the players involved.
  13. Loe has been misused. Hawkins has been little used. Saito has been unavailable. Proper use of the guys we had should have led to a more effective pen. Getting K-Rod is nice and will help. Whether it is a good deal is totally dependent on what we had to give up and whether his option vests. The pen is about 4th or 5th on the list of positions I would have been worried about.
  14. My first thought was "DPR mismanages the pen making it look worse than it is so we go out and get a reliever." Hard to evaluate the trade without knowing the players involved. Seems like kind of a waste to me.
  15. I think he has taken time off in the past to take his kids to college.
  16. Put Braun on the DL. We had to have Kotsay up against a LHP in the bottom of the 9th on Saturday because we didn't have any better options. They obviously don't want Gomez to pinch hit. If Braun was at all even close to ready, they would have put him in to pinch hit Saturday. Our bench sucks as it is. Now we are supposed to play down a man?
  17. That would be awesome. Especially if it was followed by Kotsay getting the Gross treatment.
  18. I would ask to get a picture with myself and the player, have him sign it then a signed bat and ball. Put it all in a display at home. That is unless I would get a good amount of money for the ball. It would be irresponsible to not take the opportunity to improve the quality of living for my family provided what I was doing was legal.
  19. Sure was. Though all his night brings to mind is squirrels and nuts.
  20. Most managers wouldn't pull their closer until they either blow the game or finish it regardless of how they are pitching.
  21. No kidding Ron. That is why you shouldn't pay much attention to who is hot and who isn't.
  22. If Counsell hit right handed there would be no reason to keep him. All 3 of our SS are huge piles of suck. His defense stinks and a couple good games at the plate isn't going to change my mind about his offense. We have readily available players in AAA that could replace Kotsay. Therefore we are going to see more calls to replace Kotsay instead of Counsell.
