I just started watching the game during the Morgan PA. I don't think I could have purposely picked a more infuriating point in the game to start watching. Nice pitch by Nieman but that is still probably better than Notsay hitting into a double play with his noodle bat. I have not watched so much powerless noodle bat suckitude since Kendall left.
Casey McGehee was a 2 WAR player for the Brewers in 2009 and people were happy to hand him the 3B job. That 2 WAR was in a partial season. He probably was 3 WAR over a full year that year. Of course I never did and still don't support McGehee as a full time player.
If they help keep our best players playing at leak performance instead of nosediving later on I'd say a small drop now is better than a large one later. You really have to look at the season as a whole not who is better in any given game. I am not interested in keeping Betancourt in top form. On the other hand I am not sure he could get worse.
The bench I am probably in the minority but I like a well used bench early. I think it saves wear and tear on regulars for the all important stretch after July. The one guy on the bench who would actually be much better than the starter has barely been used. I am also not sure how Kotsay playing over better players helps us. Basically most moves where DPR has actually had a chance to influence things he has consistently made bad decisions.
His walk rate makes him volatile. His stikeout rate is nice but when you put guys on base any hits or HR are going to hurt more than if the bases are empty.
While it would be nice, our current players are successful doing what they are doing. Changing that may have adverse effects. We just need a couple better hitters.
Without looking it up I would guess that the Red Sox are close to or at the top of the league every year in doubles. That outfield wall is really low and I imagine quite a few balls bounce over.
