  1. I would go with German personally unless you think you might want a language you might actually use. If you want a language you would more than likely use, I would go with Spanish. Unless of course you are going to be spending some time in Montreal, then French would be very helpful.
  2. Edmonds really can't play CF though and he isn't really hitting all that well either. The season has already taken it's toll on his ancient body. Maybe he is improving his OBP but I doubt it. It looks more like a one year fluke at this point. Katin is 27 and in his third year of AAA. He should be hitting well. His minor league OBP's are really not impressive at all.
  3. I don't think Braun will ever be good as an outfielder. McGehee has a sub .800 OPS now. Maybe he is just i the middle of a slump but I never thought he would hit well. I think we are better off looking outside for a 1B.
  4. why move Gamel to 3b when McGehee is already there? isn't that like replaceing McGehee with McGehee? why not let Gamel play 1st and then you've only got one guy learning a new position instead of two? (maybe that's slightly off-topic, though, when this is more about personnel and not positions.) Gamel is at 3B and has been since we drafted him. Gamel hit almost as well in his sporadic playing time last year as McGehee has this year and I think will hit in the .850+ OPS range with at least a .340 OBP. That lineup wouldn't be to bad. Gamel probably mostly replaces Hart's production. Cain, well, I don't see how he could possibly be a worse hitter than Gomez and no Edmonds doesn't bring up our CF offense much.(.283/.381/.664, that is OBP/SLG/OPS NOT BA/OBP/SLG) Lawrie seems to has an above average bat somewhat mitigating the loss of Fielder.
  5. Shawn Marcun, no thanks. I want guys back who will be around more than a couple years. Marcum will have 4 years of service time by the end of this year. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see Lawrie go though.
  6. Gamel only hits left. He fields right.
  7. Doesn't sound like there is much chance that they trade Fielder before the offseason.
  8. Why would we want to replace a guy with a .325/.433/.758 MLB line with a guy who has a .318/.528/.846 career AAA line especially when one can play all the outfield spots and the other can't. What would that AAA OBP translate to? Something below .300 is my guess. No thanks. Looks like a minor league soldier or MLB backup if you can't find a cheap FA.
  9. So apparently the scouts were wrong about Escobar's defense.
  10. That is ridiculous. He should have not thrown that many pitches. I really don't care about a no hitter especially when he wasn't pitching well.
  11. I thought the Cubs were going to be bad this year, but I didn't think they'd be this bad. They currently have the same record the Brewers do.
  12. For what it's worth, MLB Trade Rumors has a synopsis up where Attanasio has basically said he's not interested in seeing the team dismantled, and feels the team could make a run again next season. What does dismantled mean though. If he thinks trading Fielder is dismantling the team I completely disagree. I think Fielder 100% has to be traded before the start of next season. I am very afraid of Mark A. and his meddling. I see what has happened to the Astros the last half decade and their trading for players while thinning their farm system when they are realistically out of it like we are now.
  13. Assuming St. Louis and Cincinnati both go 8-9 over that same stretch we would still be 5 games back. Not impossible but I still think not probable. I think 5 games back at the break is in the race if the team is .500 or better. No team sub .500 IMHO is in a pennant race. In the situation we are talking about here we are still under .500. 43 - 46 I believe. I said it in another thread but we need St. Louis and Cincinnati to go .500 the rest of the way and we need to go .589 just to tie(54-34). Only 4 teams have that win% right now, Texas, Tampa Bay, Boston and the Yankees. I honestly am very happy to see the team playing better but I think we are better off being sellers at the deadline and working towards getting better in 2011 and beyond.
  14. Keep in mind that the one year they would have had a normal player for cheap(2013) they can't pay him less than $2.4M. Still pretty cheap but not league minimum cheap.
  15. I think more importantly it would boost expectations and interest for 2011.
  16. I am not sure Gallardo is worried about his next contract at this point. I doubt a shutout in June of 2010 is going to matter much to whomever is negotiating with Gallardo's agent in the 2014 or 2015 offseason.
  17. Assuming St. Louis and Cincinnati both go 8-9 over that same stretch we would still be 5 games back. Not impossible but I still think not probable.
  18. Just to put a little perspective on the Weeks vs Escobar thing. During the month of May, Weeks worst month so far and Escobar's best, Weeks still out hit Escobar. .252/.315/.420/.735 vs .250/.317/.359/.676 The only idea worse than Escobar leading off would be to bat Gomez #2. Although Gomez actually laid down a good bunt that one time.
  19. We may be able to hang in there but even winning 5 of the next 6 games probably only gains us two games since STL is likely to go at least 3-3 during that time.A split against STL gains us nothing. That would still leave us 6.5 back. It doesn't seem like much but 6.5 games is still a huge lead and we have to get past STL and CIN and we are even further back in the wild card. At this point STL and CIN would both have to go .500 the rest of the way and we would have to win at a .589 clip just to tie them by the end of the season.Only 4 teams are winning at that rate so far this year. Texas, New York Yankees, Boston and Tampa Bay. We don't have the talent of any of those teams. Possible yes, but highly unlikely since our team probably has the talent of a .500 team. We are out of it and the sooner Doug starts making moves the better I will feel about it.
  20. I don't think his swing is the problem. His plate discipline is.
  21. How can Capuano have not pitched for so long but it seemed like we saw Suppan almost 2-3 times a week?
  22. If Mark A. has been involved in any of the moves Melvin has made, which ones and how involved?
  23. He isn't paid enough to blow, oops I mean save games for us all year.
  24. The best part about Edmonds hitting is he is putting up that sub .800 OPS mostly against RHP(about 119 PA vs 25 PA). He had a good April and has been pretty bad ever since.
  25. This Bush didn't pitch well against the Twins nonsense that Macha talks about was just as bad as when Yost used it. Hopefully Macha has a reasonable explanation and doesn't want to go into it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bush sent packing when DD comes back. I wish Gomez could hit his way out of a wet paper bag so we wouldn't be subjected to Edmonds in CF.
