  1. Probably Macha just being tired of answering pitching questions every day. Idle speculation on a slow news day but I will play anyway. The somebody who will be disappointed last week was Suppan being told that he would be in the pen. We didn't get any news after that because Suppan immediately demanded a trade. Melvin has since been working on trading Suppan to somewhere he would get to start. Of course we are going to have to eat approx. $14.4M of what he is owed including the buyout.
  2. I don't know about that. Macha stuck with Hall for a very long time last year and Hall had very long track record of sucking as a fulltime player.
  3. I haven't done the "new" New Glarus brewery tour since they opened the 2nd facility, but the original was really underwhelming. And this is from someone who loves their beers. If you're set on Madison-area tours, I recommend Capital and even Great Dane over New Glarus. They do a tour of both breweries with a beer and cheese tasting at the end. We have zero interest in Capital Brewery. My wife and I think they make watery beer. I know a lot of other people really like them though. We live in the Madison area so that is where our interest is centered.
  4. Not to mention the lazy fly ball that he misplayed turning an out into a triple. If he's looked that bad all spring, maybe he will be dumped... stranger things have happened. Plays like that happen often enough in Spring Training that it really isn't much of an issue. March 17, 2010 Last day to place a player on unconditional release waivers and pay 30 days termination pay instead of 45 days. March 31, 2010 Last day to request unconditional release waivers on a player without having to pay his full 2010 salary
  5. If you could guarantee we would make it till the All-Star break without needing a 7th pitcher I would agree. Considering the innings either is likely to pitch, I really doubt it matters much. Even if Villy makes the team he would likely be the 7th guy out of the pen lucky to pitch unless somebody gets injured.
  6. Edmonds as a platoon guy in a corner probably wouldn't be to bad. The problems start once he gets into CF or as an every day player. I am not really bothered by Hart missing an apparently easy flyball since we see that often enough in Arizona. Where is all this Lasik talk coming from. It doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon. Hart didn't know he had a vision problem until spring training started. Much to late for surgery.
  7. Yeah it doesn't have the normal bitter after-bite of an IPA. It was brewed to be a sessionable beer.
  8. WWE, still the lamest thing in the USA. I have no idea why anybody would find it entertaining.
  9. I think it sucks that almost all the WCHA teams were knocked out in the first round.
  10. I am leaning towards Moon Man as my beer of choice on Opening Day. It's either that or Fat Tire. That is unless I can find some Oberon Ale. Logan: get back to the Malt House if you haven't been there before. Great selection of Belgians and the ilk (sour beers are fantastic!) I will try to get ther the next time I get out of the house without the kids. Probably sometime next year. or maybe this summer. My wife and I really want to do the New Glarus brewery tour. I know, I know, stop sucking up to New Glarus. Sorry, they make decent beer and are always trying new stuff. I can't really say that about many breweries I have easy access to. BTW, where is the Malt House exactly. We couldn't find it. Of course my wife wasn't really all that interested and I was driving.
  11. The information we have suggests that Hart didn't know about his eye problem until the start of spring training. He didn't have all winter to sort it out. I hope in the future Gomez and Escobar refrain from winter ball. I am not a big fan of our everyday MLB players playing winter ball.
  12. I think a gradual decline makes some sense. Gallardo isn't a power pitcher really. Not a soft tosser but not really a power pitcher.
  13. Suppan could probably be cut midseason if the guys in the minors are pitching well. If we would be guaranteed to get through the first 3 months of the season only needing 6 starters, then we could cut Suppan right now. The problem is pitchers get injured a lot. Also a pitcher doesn't even need to be injured to be ineffective. All it takes is a little tweak to throw things way out of whack. I would be surprised if we didn't have at least 1 or probably 2 pitchers injured or ineffective by the All Star break.
  14. I hold in my hands a Moon Man. Yet another delicious beer out of New Glarus. It reminds me a lot of the Golden Ale I bought at the brewery last summer. Not as high of an alcohol content though. I could easily drink quite a few of these.
  15. A guy has to be on the 40-man roster to get service time if they get injured in Spring Training. I think they also have to be with the MLB club at the end of the previous year. If a player like Arnett had been injured he wouldn't get service time.
  16. I am not sure I do. At least one of us does.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  17. That sort of defeats the purpose of actually posting here. I think there is enough information to have a discussion. Yes we do have to trust Macha but only because his employment is not under our control. I think we have grounds to 2nd guess a guy who no only played Corey Patterson but had him bat leadoff in back to back games.
  18. Of course you are not going to get that many innings out of most of your starters. If you have a guy who can't go that many innings at the start of the year, you shouldn't put him in the rotation at least at the beginning of the year. We are putting Gallardo, Wolf, and Davis out there with the expectation that they will go 200+ innings. Odds are that maybe one actually will. If you have a guy who isn't likely to give you 180+ innings, when do you want him pitching if you think he is a better starter than some of your other options.
  19. To mellow for my liking and all the songs sound pretty similar. I didn't much care for Undertow or Ænema much either when I first got them. I don't think Lateralus will grow on me like the others did. Not really a big fan of A Perfect Circle either. They are ok but again to mellow.
  20. You look for 180+ innings out of a full time starter.
  21. I think Gamel has about 123 days of service time(Cot's has him at 28 days + 67 days on the active roster per TH + 27 days last Sept./Oct). 172 days is considered one year. Let's say he on the DL until the end of May. That would add about 60 more days of service time. That puts him at 183 days. Even if he is on the DL only until the end of April, about 30 days, he would be at 153 days. If he would get a September callup again this year, approx. 28 days, that puts him over one year. Unless he stays down in AAA all year Mat Gamel having one year of service time is a very real possibility. Now that is really depressing. I am not 100% sure of this so if somebody wants to double check that would be great.
  22. No UZR isn't the be all end all, but we really don't have much else to go on.
  23. I have to say I really didn't care much for Lateralus. I would however highly recommend Opiate, Undertow and Ænima. Back in the olden days when I used to burn Cds I always put at least one Tool song on every single one. I have only seen Tool live a couple times but I think their music in concert is even better than on CD.
  24. I kind of ignore '08 for the most part with Edmonds. If Gerut wasn't on the team I would be fine with Edmonds out there. If both play the same day I think Gerut should be in CF and Edmonds in RF. The other thing to consider is how relevant UZR/150 from 4+ years ago. There is a good chance that Edmonds has declined and is now well below average. Gerut posted a 9.6 just last year with a 12.2 the year before. Then you have to go back to 2004 for a -6.1 and 2003 for a 12.9. Edmonds best UZR/150 was a 9.7 in 2005.
  25. For what it's worth, I've listened to many of the ST games this year, and the announcers all seem to think that Edmonds has been playing extremely well in CF. It always looks good when you make diving plays. A good CF wouldn't have to dive. I think at this point Gerut is a better CF than Edmonds. Looking back to 2002 at UZR/150, Edmonds he only has one really good year in CF, 2005.
