  1. My greatest days as a Brewers fan tend to focus on the positives. Players come and go. Macha leaving won't mean much really unless it means a different approach in the hiring of managers.
  2. He isn't slightly overpaid. He is massively overpaid. His W/L record is irrelevant. If he is the 5th starter, that is a mistake. He should be at least the 6th or 7th starter until we have some guys in the minors show they can get guys out. Once Butler is healthy, it makes Suppan much more replaceable. The only problem I see if the minor league guys are good is that they might not be ready to go the 180+ innings we would need from them.
  3. Since Narveson and Parra are already in the pen, I don't see why Stetter is a necessity at this point anyway. I would hate to see either used as a LOOGY if we would need them to start at a later date.
  4. The previous ownership group. Until the release Ken Macha of course.
  5. Most Projections of Escobar and Gomez have around a .328 OBP. Zaun is in the high .330's or low .340 with better power than either. Most projections don't have Gomez cracking a .700 OPS. Even the worst have McGehee over that. Most projections of Escobar have him around .700 OPS or below. The only one that doesn't is MARCEL and that one has McGehee at .814 and Escobar at .775. I think there is good reason to think McGehee could have a better OBP than either given his plate discipline compared to theirs. They rely on getting hits, he doesn't.
  6. I seriously have to question how good that lineup tool is considering even a very pessimistic projection for McGehee is still much better than an optimistic projection for either Escobar or Gomez. I really don't like the lineups from the lineup tools from a few pages back either. Fielder #2 adn Braun #4 makes some sense. Gomez and Escobar getting a lot more at bats than Zaun and McGehee doesn't.
  7. Had some Ranger the other night. Not to bad. Maybe I am turning to the dark side and starting to like hoppy beer.
  8. We have a finalist for the Hobey Baker award this year. Blake Geoffrion made it, Brendan Smith didn't make the cut. We also have INCH defenseman of the year. For whatever that's worth.
  9. Ginsu knives will not cut frozen ground meat. I am making red cake for Opening Day. I am substituting blue food dye for red. My wife thinks I am crazy. She always says that and a day later I see her doing the same thing I did when she said I was crazy. I love red cake.
  10. I think a lot of the people who work at New Glarus are family. That hilltop facility is very nice looking. Obviously made with the public in mind.
  11. Shoot, I went 40/60/80 on the arby years. I way overestimated. I was trying to find what Braun would have made over the duration of his current contract if he had gone year to year and signed as a free agent with a team after his arby years. I didn't count anything past 2015 when his current contract is over. Endaround's estimate above was what I was thinking of. I don't think Braun would have qualified as a Super 2. Braun was at 2.129 according to Cot's.
  12. There are also guys in the past couple years that could hit but didn't get contracts worth much. Without looking it up Dunn comes to mind. I think you are operating under the assumption teams will continue to give out those huge contracts. Those contracts you mention are looking really bad right now for the teams involved. CC didn't even get more than $23M on average. Look what Matt Holliday got this offseason.
  13. I took Monday off and it feels like a holiday weekend. Ok it is technically a holiday weekend but who other than kids can really get excited about Easter.
  14. I am sure we talked about this when he signed his contract. I don't remember and I believe the market has changed. I am coming up with between $34-53M depending on whether he would get in free agency. I think his defense will hurt him in the future. If he improves his defense, I think he will get a huge contract. Given the current trend, and that may change by when he would hit free agency, I could see him not getting much money if he doesn't improve. Edit: I am leaning more towards under $25M even with good defense. Doesn't that Zambrano contract look beautiful? Highest paid players per Cot's Roger Clemens, $28,000,022 (2007)Alex Rodriguez, $27,500,000 (2008-17) Alex Rodriguez, $25,200,000 (2001-10) Joe Mauer, $23,000,000 (2011-18) C.C. Sabathia, $23,000,000 (2009-15) Johan Santana, $22,916,667 (2008-13) Manny Ramirez, $22,500,000 (2009-10) Mark Teixeira, $22,500,000 (2009-16) Roger Clemens, $22,000,022 (2006) Manny Ramirez, $20,000,000 (2001-08) Roy Halladay, $20,000,000 (2011-13) Miguel Cabrera, $19,037,500 (2008-15) Derek Jeter, $18,900,000 (2001-10) Carlos Zambrano, $18,300,000 (2008-12) Andruw Jones, $18,100,000 (2008-09) Barry Bonds, $18,000,000 (2002-06) Roger Clemens, $18,000,000 (2005) Ryan Howard, $18,000,000 (2009-11) Torii Hunter, $18,000,000 (2008-12) Sammy Sosa, $18,000,000 (2002-05) Ichiro Suzuki, $18,000,000 (2008-12) Vernon Wells, $18,000,000 (2008-14) Barry Zito, $18,000,000 (2007-13)
  15. Patties are an inferior form of bratwurst.
  16. If you had replaced Parra with a minor league pitcher and not had a catcher coming back you might have had me fooled for a bit.
  17. Yes the hard hat tours are Fridays at 1:00 only and yes the self guided tour is lame. Even the tour of their new hilltop brewery which is a very nice looking brewery.
  18. He should put up a good OBP. I see no reason not to bat him #2. Escobar is the one I really don't want to see #2. The way he pounds the ball into the ground is going to lead to a lot of double plays.
  19. I would swap Zaun & Escobar against righties, & use this against lefties. Very nice.I would swap Hart for Edmonds against lefties and move Zaun up to #2.
  20. I am a little surprised something wasn't mentioned earlier. Butler was hurt and sort of lost in the shuffle this spring. We have had little or news on him.
  21. Gallardo was outhit by Kendall last year. Trust me on this, I won beer and it was delicious.
