  1. 2 divisions with 2 wild card teams would be pretty good. That way you end up with the 4 best teams. Gives teams like Baltimore and Tampa Bay a better chance.
  2. Well we didn't end up going to Hops N Props but we made it a beer day anyway. We started by stopping at Steve's on the West side of Madison. I picked out 3 single bottles, Matilda, Pere Jacques, and Capital Dark. I also picked up a pak of Tripel Nova and Hennepin. My wife picked out packs of Mudpuppy Porter and Dogfishhead 90-min IPA. After that we stopped at the Great Dane. I of course had the Crop Circle Wheat and my wife had the Black Earth Porter.(of course we also picked up a growler of each) We also tried the EPA, Dopplebock, Nut Brown and Speed Bump IPA. My wife thinks the Black Earth Porter is still one the best beers she has ever had. Probably has at least a little to do with how fresh it is. We liked the Speedbump IPA but thought the others were just ok. The EPA was to sweet. That may be the style though. We thought about stopping at The Malt House but we decided against. Instead we went home and walked to the bars downtown. We were pretty shocked to find Fat Tire on tap in one of our local bars. This might not be shocking to some but we live in a smallish town(pop of about 2100). Not something I might drink most of the time but much preferable to the usual Miller/Bud/Leinenkugel products. I was not a fan of the Capital Dark. I thought it was much like almost any beer we have had from the brewery. Watered down beer. Of course we prefer beer we can practically chew. My wife of course loves the Mudpuppy Porter. We would also recommend the 90-min IPA and neither of us really likes IPA's most of the time. We have yet to try any of the others as I was finishing up the Stone Soup(my go to beer) I had in the fridge. Sorry about being so long winded. I will get back after trying out the other beers I picked up.
  3. Wow, what a forgettable game. Hopefully we don't get to many suspensions out of this game. Yeah the Minnesota announcers are really annoying. This game is pretty near unwatchable at this point. and with that I am done watching. 6-1
  4. Of course it won't work exactly this way, but the magic of compounding will increase our payroll over time. Of course our fixed expenses will also go up over the years as well so payroll will not grow quickly, if at all even with more income. Our payroll has been pretty much in the $90M range for the last couple years and I would be surprised to see it go up anytime soon.
  5. I think I estimated about $15 per ticket for payroll so a drop in attendance of 1000/game would be a loss of about $1.2M for salary.(things probably aren't really that linear though, overhead and operating costs are probably pretty set) If the Brewers don't win, they can't maintain their payroll.
  6. Yeah their TV contract details are kind of murky(length and money) but it sounds like we get about $30M in revenue sharing and $10M from our TV contract. I can't remember exactly where it was but it was mentioned in the JS a few weeks back. That means about $55M from ticket sales. We rely alot on ticket sales to make payroll.
  7. I can't believe that Edmonds is a better option in CF than Gerut at this point in their careers.
  8. Totally agree, along with how much higher can Mark A raise the payroll to pay some of our other players that will need to get raises at some point. Can he raise it to $100 mill? Maybe a little higher then that? If he can that would be nice.First I would love to see Fielder extended if it can be done in the $15M range. Once you start talking about getting up around the $20M range I don't like it as much. Second, I think we are at our limit for salary. Things would have to change(revenue sharing) for us to push salary up to $100M. It sounds like we are at our very limit right now.
  9. You can grill all winter. I do.
  10. I don't think the problem is really paying Prince in 2011 or even 2012. It's 2013-2015 when a lot of the other guys (Braun) will start to get more expensive. I agree partially. Really the only part I disagree with is Braun never really gets expensive. I don't think he would have qualified for Super 2 status. 10:$1M, 11:$4M, 12:$6M, 13:$8.5M, 14:$10M, 15:$12M
  11. I wouldn't mind seeing Weeks signed to a 3-4 year contract. I don't think he would be to expensive. Yeah he could easily be our best 2B of all time if he plays for us for a few more years.
  12. Four teams per league simply works better for playoffs. Otherwise you have a team off for a week before playing again. You would have to go to a two or four division league in each league to make the playoffs fair.
  13. Here's the thing that bothers me. Fielder is talking about how he wants to grow up and then after getting plunked instead of just running to 1B and continuing to play, he claps and basically taunts Zito. I really have no problem with anything that transpired, but don't say you are trying to grow up and taunt other players.
  14. I would have gone with Nilsson at catcher.
  15. I can't imagine that the players were to happy about Macha apologizing to Bochy over the offseason for the celebration.
  16. I have not read it yet but ran across this article on "What Puts Fans In the Seats?"
  17. Figure skating again bumps hockey. I thought the Olympics were over for the next 3 years and all I had to worry about was the idiots at BTN(women's basketball, seriously?) programing and the Bucks bumping Badger hokey and the Brewers.
  18. I will probably skip 2K10 this year. It got pretty meh reviews. Still sounds like it has some really weird flaws that make it not fun. The reviews really liked the pitching and hitting portions of the game.
  19. I think having payroll flexibility is very important. I really wouldn't want to bank on developing pitching given the rate pitchers burn out as prospects. I would much rather try to develop position players and hope we hit on some pitching then fill out our rotation with a couple free agents.
  20. In that case they are the biggest bunch of hypocrites I have ever had the pleasure of not meeting.
  21. Plus the Giants are still going to be on the field/dugout when it is going on. I think they could get off the field by the time Fielder rounded the bases if they really wanted to. Fielder isn't exactly a really fast guy and he was trotting not sprinting. Those glass houses in San Fran must be mighty impervious to stones, is all I'm thinking! Bonds is no longer part of the team. They are all classy nonshowboaters now.
  22. Most people would probably just buy a different player's jersey. The only jersey sales that matter are the ones sold at the stadium(and team store in Milwaukee). All other jersey sales are split amongst the clubs. I really question how many tickets Braun and Fielder actually sell. The Brewers don't sell anywhere near the tickets they do now if the team is back to a sub .500 team. If we keep winning and Fielder leaves, I think we may take a small hit in tickets. Weekend games probably still sell out or close to it as the demand for tickets far outstrips supply. People didn't start to show up to Brewers games until we started to win. The Brewers have to decide whether they have a better chance to win with Fielder or the players and the money they have by not signing or trading Fielder.
  23. I wasn't really referring to anything specific. I know Fielder was upset and let his contract be renewed almost every year(as has Hart I believe). In the first year of arbitration Fielder signed a 2 year deal instead of being a pain and going to arbitration. I wasn't really surprised that Bopras/Fielder didn't go to arbitration, but the 2 year deal was kind of shocking. Honestly if I was a player, I wouldn't sign a contract in any year and just let them renew me.
  24. If they expect him to hit like Fielder of course not. Expecting Gamel to put up close to or slightly above average numbers for a 1B isn't unrealistic.
  25. Wait a minute. Jim Hendry ahead of the Phillies guy. How can Hendry be anywhere near the top half. That club is headed for a few ugly years as guys get old. Honestly I wouldn't even bother putting Cashman in the list and maybe not Epstien either given the money they can spend. How hard is it to identify the best FA and then write him a check bigger than anybody else? or do they get extra credit for hyping their own prospects and pawning them off on lesser teams.
