  1. Gallardo(23) and Parra(26) are still at an age where we should expect some improvement or at the very least maintaining their performance not decline. Gallardo shouldn't have been expected to finish the year when he was coming off a year where he only had 31 innings.
  2. Hart drove in 91 runs in 2008 and he was a pretty poor hitter overall that year. Anybody hitting behind guys who get on base is likely to get RBI. There's no guarantee Gamel will be in the big leagues for 3 years much less 6. Of course there is no guarantee Fielder will play next year either.
  3. limited no-trade clause, 2009-10 (may block deals to 8 clubs each year)per Cot's Having Suppan as a pitcher isn't hurting us since we have nobody better. Suppan at a lower price would be fine. Paying him $12.5M plus a $2M buyout over the next year sucks.
  4. He's been pretty bad this year but doesn't he have the reputation of being a good defender? That's what we hear, but his minor league totalzone is basically average. I am going to assume he will be an average defender for now. We don't know how much his knee problems have affected his defense.
  5. Unable to move Hardy for decent value, they keep him as their backup SS (or starting SS) and gamble that they get Type A compensation for him next offseason. Hardy isn't a free agent until after the 2011 season now. You are right that there are a lot of wins that we can pick up with players playing back to their career norms.
  6. Haudricourt has an article comparing Yost and Macha. A lot of it looks like a rehashing of stuff already printed. Link Ugh. Doesn't look good for those hoping for a new manager. Looks like there will either be Macha or some other "old school" retread. I am a little sick now.
  7. My guess is that you put the charcoal in the bottom and the wood in the next tray with some water.
  8. I think #3 is probably the worst choice of the 3 unless the plan is to keep Gamel down long enough to gain another season of service out of him. I really wouldn't mind Gamel being in AAA for another year. I really don't want him brought up and given sporadic playing time like they did this year but wouldn't be bothered much if we gain another year form it.
  9. Suppan is still better than anything we will have in AAA next year at this point(Butler aside, maybe). We need at least 2-3 pitchers for depth if we keep Looper. Getting rid of Soup could drive that to 5 if we also don't keep Looper. I think we will be lucky to get 2 and keep Looper. Bradly doesn't really add much more than what we already have and his contract is a year longer than Soup's. I really wish I wouldn't be put in a position where I have to defend Suppan. I don't much care for him. As much as I hate to say it, we need Suppan. I just wish his contract wasn't so bloated.
  10. Once a player produces at the major league level, what he didn't do in the minors becomes almost totally irrelevant. No it doesn't. Ask Bill Hall. Would it make you feel better if he had? Yes it would. Good minor league seasons aren't necessarily predictors of major league success. They are better predictors of success than a single MLB season are. The fact that McGehee has an OPS 104 points higher than his best MiLB season is reason to think this year is an outlier. I think he is more likely to be around league average for a 3B. I believe that is around .760-.790 OPS. McGehee did drive in 92 runs in AAA last year RBI as an argument for anything other than "who drove in the most runs" is useless.
  11. The only thing that I think is obvious from this season is that McGehee would hit well as a part time player and Gamel wouldn't.
  12. What about all the previous minor league seasons by McGehee where he never broke .800 OPS. I still think there is a good chance this season by McGehee was an outlier. Edit: Forgot to add that Gamel is almost 3 years younger than McGehee.(3 months short of 3 years)
  13. I would rather have Soup. Trading a pitcher away does nothing to help our pitching problem.
  14. I rented Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Section 8 over the weekend. I didn't like Section 8. Maybe I didn't play it enough to learn how all the guns worked, but the campaign wasn't very fun. The reviews said to buy it for the multiplayer and I honestly have little interest in multiplayer games. I liked Ultimate Alliance but don't think it is worth $60. My oldest son and I each played through the game once on Saturday. I admit there is a lot more to do and collect that we didn't. I will probably wait until it drops in price though. I haven't been keeping up on the Marvel storylines so it was cool to see the game cover the Superhuman Registration Act.
  15. That music(just before God Bless America) sounded kind of like the Super Mario Brothers music when you complete a castle.
  16. Crap, Patterson got a hit. and got picked off. Nice.
  17. Patterson still without a hit as a Brewer. Hopefully that puts another nail in his coffin as a Brewer. Although with 3500+ other PA while maintaining a sub .300 OBP isn't enough to convince Melvin he has no place on a team, I don't have much hope another few at bats will.
  18. I liked Gerut when others were unhappy about a couple dozen AB's. Alot of people did.
  19. Losing would help our draft slot. I still hate to dee the Brewers lose.
  20. I guess if you are going to ignore a useful way to measure defense, then go ahead and believe what you like. Braun shows up as below average in all advanced measures of defense as well as looking bad in the field to many posters. To me that seems like a pretty unbiased measure that he is a bad defender.
  21. A strong defense would improve the Brewers pitching staff. The Brewers are above average this year and were one of the best defensive teams in baseball in 2008. I'm kind of tired of the Braun bashing. Where is the bashing? Braun is below average at a position where average means bad. His defense is rated worse by UZR this year than last.
  22. Depends on the goals for next year. Of course as a fan I want the Brewers to be good and compete every year. They might not think that is possible and might decide to build towards 2011 or beyond. If they are planning on taking a step back to get better for 2011 then it shouldn't get him fired.
  23. Melvin built the Brewers the best way if you want to assure some success. He drafted high ceiling hitters. Hitters, even if they disappoint, are likely to contribute something. High ceiling pitchers flame out at a very high rate. He built the Brewers talent back up to a respectable level after starting with almost nothing. Now he has to try and build a balanced team. Link
  24. The Brewers are on the hook for $23 million in 3 players, Hall is in Seattle, Riske will likely not pitch for the Brewers again, and Suppan is declining. Riske isn't making much and I would be willing to bet we get insurance money since he isn't likely to pitch next year.
  25. Apparently obsessedwithbrewcrew hasn't seen some of the stiffs out there on other teams. I am sure he has and that is why Braun is such a bad fielder. If everybody who played LF was a good outfielder and Braun was average, Braun would be a good outfielder. As it is, Braun is average at a position with many bad fielders which means average is bad.
