  1. That quote ranks right up there with Hank Stienbrenner complaining about the playoff format not being fair after the Yankees were eliminated this year. Sour grapes. It is what it is. Play better.
  2. After tonight's game, we will all know what a must-win game really means.
  3. We walked 6 guys in the first game and 7 in the second. It isn't like the Phillies have scored much. one inning in each of the first 2 games. we gave them to many base runners.
  4. The big thing I see so far in this game is no walks by our pitching.
  5. DeMuth has one of the smallest strike zones and Runge one of the largest. Link Actually all 3 home plate umpires for the series show up in the 5 largest or smallest strike zones.
  6. Gameday called that last pitch to Hall a ball then switched it to a strike after a couple seconds.
  7. Just because he was paid market value doesn't mean he is worth the money to us. In my opinion the Brewers are not a team that should pay market value for an average player.
  8. You might not have gotten to see it, but there was a show on the Brewers and their drafting strategy that was shown at least every other week during the season. Jack Z stated that their drafting strategy was drafting speed and power. Power bats and power arms. Then develop the rest of the player's skills in the minors. They are not leaving the players in the minors long enough to let them become complete players. Edit: Not that they would ever develop into complete players. Most of our players have been rushed through the minors.
  9. I think it is 2 and under who don't need tickets. Since your son is technically still 2 you should be ok. I think. Edit: Per the Brewers website(Alphabetical under T) Ticket Policy for Children Children two (2) years of age and under do not need a ticket to enter Miller Park provided they are seated on a parent or guardian's lap.
  10. It isn't ok to copy and paste articles on pay portions of websites here. Please no 6 year deals for free agents. A 6/$150M deal would be crippling.
  11. I would much rather keep infielders than outfielders. Especially at this point with Gamel in AAA. We still don't know where he will end up playing. Gwynn should get a year to start and then trade him if Cain is ready. Even Gwynn-haters should be able to live with one year having him start when you consider we'll need the ten million for starting pitching. I can live with Gwynn starting for many years, as long as it is for a different team. I like Gwynn, but his bat is Counsellesque. There is no way his defense could make up for his bat.
  12. The improvement would have to be on the defensive side. I think that Escobar would be a step down offensively from Hall/other guy platoon.
  13. I think they would call it a "rebuilding year." At least I hope they wouldn't consider any year where TGJ starts in CF(without a significant injury) anything other than rebuilding.
  14. I doubt we can get much better than Cameron in CF. He was 7th best in OPS for center fielders. I don't necessarily agree that hitting lead-off is messing with Weeks, but I wouldn't be to upset seeing him somewhere in the 3rd-5th spots. "Prototypical lead-off hitter" I see that thrown around all the time. Whenever it gets talked about we always see a bunch of slap hitters brought up. Some fictional high OBP guy with speed. To heck with a prototypical lead-off hitter. Just get the best player that we can for each position and worry about the rest later.
  15. We saw a lot of the same complaints last year about how Weeks wasn't a good lead-off hitter. He was one of the best OBP wise last year. I think the really high OBP guys are sluggers and middle of the order hitters with a few non-sluggers mixed in. I am seeing a .342 OBP for lead-off hitters in your link.
  16. If you had told me before the series that we would only allow the Phillies to score in 2 innings in the first 2 games, i would have been prety happy.
  17. I know we can't ignore Weeks first half, but considering where he was at the half I think it is amazing he came close to his projection.
  18. The only position that seems to need a dramatic upgrade is 3B. That could be solved with a straight Branyan/Hall platoon. We have a good young player at almost every other position. I think the fact that almost everybody underperformed their projections says that there is alot of room for improvement within the players we now have. We only have 2 players in their "declining" years. Playing the backup catcher more than once every other month might help also.
  19. Not sure how long the injury will keep him out, but I would assume that would be taken into consideration when negotiationg his contract. I just don't think we can say that we shouldn't offer arbitration if he isn't ready by opening day. Even a half season of Sheets over our 5th best starter is likely to have more impact then anything else we could do with the money over one year. You can argue run support, bad luck, whatever, but this has gone on his whole career. You are right, he has had bad run support over most of his career.
  20. Why would it be a problem if he isn't ready for opening day? As long as he would be ready by May, I think we should offer arbitration. Unless we can spend that money on improving our team in another area that would be better than having Sheets for 5 months. I don't think at any point next year we will have 5 starters better than Sheets. If we have $70M commited and $20M to spend, we might as well spend it to make our team better. It doens't hurt our team the next year if we make a bad one year signing.
  21. You just don't tell the family so they think you are a great son for missing the game to spend time with them.
  22. I guess I wouldn't be to bothered by adding one more wild card if they did it as a 3 game series. I would rather just stick with the current playoff format. The playoffs already go to deep into the fall and the bad weather. If every team that built a stadium was smart enough to get one with a roof, I wouldn't have a problem with extended playoffs.
  23. I would too, but our starting pitching is in such disarray right now. Our best option is almost starter by committee right now. 12 pitchers when you only need 4 starters going on regular rest and off days to rest your best relievers would normally seem excessive.
  24. I am going to attempt a media blackout starting at 2:00PM CST tomorrow. Then I will watch the game when I get home. Of course I doubt that will last much past 6:00. I will just have to check the score. Edit: For those who don't have it I can't stress this enough, TiVo, I love it. No more sitting at a family gathering thinking, "I have to get home in 20 minutes or I will miss the start of the game." The game starts when you get there. No more worrying about missing your favorite show. Whenever you have time to sit down it will be there. I think it is a must have, along with Netflix, for future parents as well. Trust me, there is nothing on in the middle of the night and having a few programs recorded to watch is great. I know it can get a little pricey, but I would recommend putting it on your Christmas list or start saving up.
  25. Oops. Sorry, I was hurrying off to work. Thought I had the link copied.
