  1. I see he is between .292 and .316 since 2004. I wouldn't think those are to far from league average to really cause much notice. I was just going from memory. I remembered that it was surprising, at the time, he would have such a low BABIP.
  2. Although I disagree with blaming Yost for this, I don't think it is out of the realm of posibility that a tired pitcher would get hit harder and have a higher BABIP. Sustaining a high BABIP was touched on a while back when there was a discussion about Ryan Braun regressing. I believe there were a couple guys brought up that maintain a BABIP around .330-.340. Low K's and high BB's greatly influence BABIP. That's why guys like Pujols and Fielder have BABIP's around .290 even though they hit balls hard. Nothing relating to pitchers though.

  4. I like seeing the Cubs having a leadoff hitter with a career .327 OBP. Basically just slightly better than if we had Hall leading off.
  5. Why not tax Cd's and DVD's as well? That would be a much bigger moneymaker in my opinion. More volume. Of course videogames don't have big money behind them like movies do.
  6. You are only looking at 18 PA per position in the batting order so moving any player 1 position in the order makes very little difference over the course of an entire season. Taking into account that a pitcher probably doesn't make all the PA for an entire season it is even less. I believe that in many cases the Cardinals' 8th or 9th hitter was a worse or equal hitter to the pitcher in many cases. Even if you disagree with any of that, putting another good hitter in front of your top of the order hitters will give you more base runners while the top of the order is hitting.
  7. Well you could call me Dennis. I didn't know your name was Dennis. Well you didn't bother to ask did you? Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help, help, I'm being repressed.
  8. I tried to get Dennis the Peasant as my gamertag, but it was to long. So was Knight who formerly said Ni. You can get a 16 disc box set of Monty Python for just under $60. I think it has almost every show. http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=5737586
  9. I would say no. If he had played last season and was completley healthy I would say yes, but who knows where he is in terms of health. Since we are in a win now mode I see no reason to take a chance on him. If we were talking 2-3 years ago when wins didn't matter as much I would be all for giving him a chance. I know how heartless that sounds. I wish him well and hope he can at the very least return to a normal life and hopefully play baseball as well as before.
  10. I always get excited when I see Prince at 3B. I hope for a sac fly in those cases. You have to wonder what is going through the catchers mind.
  11. I think you could easily find people who think Cabrera should be playing Fielder's position as well.
  12. Well you can always cheer for the winner. They still have the Fighting Sioux hockey team.
  13. I think players like to have defined roles, but I would prefer a more flexible pen.
  14. edod, The Bears just went to the Super Bowl not even a year ago.
  15. The more I think about the pen, the less excited I am.(not that I was excited to begin with) Who do we have that can go multiple innings outside of Bush/Villanueva? Unless our starters can get long starts on a regular basis we still need a guy to soak up those innings. Last year we had only Villy and we all know how that turned out. It would be nice to have another quality multiinning guy to help out.
  16. What about an African Swallow? It's a question of weight ratios. Oh king eh? Very nice.
  17. I am surprised EZ board posts count. I would think it is sort of like USFL/NFL stats.
  18. I am not getting another baseball game until EAsports gets back into MLB games. I hate the 2k baseball games. They made the base stealing more important so the defense is off. For example, Lee is good at stealing bases so they made him really fast and therefore a really good fielder. They can't get a pitcher's repertoire right either. That to me is just lazy. Hire some outside scouts to see what a pitcher throws.
  19. Terry Francona? Jayson Stark from ESPN was on Tim Allen's hot stove program tonight, and he didn't really seem to have anything positive to say about how Yost handled the team last season. He had issues with guys not knowing their roles and having so much switching around in the lineup. The number of lineups used was brought up many times last year. Last I remember the Brewers were right around the middle as far as number of lineups used. Did he expand on which guys didn't know their role? I don't see where a guy hits in the lineup as a very big deal. As long as the manager isn't doing something totally outlandish like the pitcher leading off with Fielder and Braun batting in the bottom of the order.
  20. I just got Mass Effect last weekend. I love the game. Kind of like they took KOTOR and made the fighting into a 3rd person shooter. I will have to try Halo 3 coop. Hopefully it is fun. I am almost at the point of not renwing my gold membership since I never play online.
  21. There are many things that Ned does wrong. That stuff didn't bother me as much as all the "idiot manager" and "worst manager in the league" comments. There were also times when Ned got blamed for stuff that was really a stretch. It got to a point at the end of last year where it became "how can we pin this on Yost." That stuff detracts from the real issues.
  22. That bolded part hits right at the heart of the matter as far as I am concerned. All the criticism or praise is based mostly on how you think a game should be managed and on how much impact you think in game decisions actually have over the outcome of a ballgame. I personally believe the decisions with the biggest impact are made about who has which spot coming out of spring training. We don't have a really good way to compare managers. Not like with players. Only getting a hit 30% of the time really sucks until you have some basis for comparison and realize that is better than most other people. I really have no problem with a thread pointing out Yost's perceived misdeeds. At least if it is confined to one area you can avoid it or know what you are getting yourself into, much like this thread.
  23. Relative value HR - 10 3B - 9 2B - 7 single - 4 walk - 3 steal - 1
  24. Entertainment 10 - triple 8 - home run 5 - double 3 - single 2 - walk 2 - steal I think a triple is more exciting because there is a buildup as the runner gets to second. Steals don't get me to excited unless they happen in a big spot in a game.
  25. We all konw he was benched because Yost was playing the hot hand with Mench.
