  1. The things that the cute little woodland creatures were saying had me cracking up. Can't repeat much of it here. "Man, I do not want to meet the kid who dreamnt those things up."
  2. Backupcatchers Is this really about disliking LaRussa or is this disliking LaRussa because he is somebody pointed out as being a far superior manager to Yost?
  3. Actually that points to intelligence and experience. If a manager has a choice of where to go, he should go to a team that has the best chance to win. Most people will not point to W/L records when talking about managers, but when you manage a winning team you get a reputation of being a good manager. Edit: I have to say that I am surprised nobody brought up the all-star game where Pujols sat on the bench. Not a big deal unless you live in Colorado.
  4. Generally you gain 18 AB per season per lineup spot. So over the course of a whole season, a player batting one place out of their ideal lineup spot will make almost no impact. Add to that you are talking about a pitcher who will generally be pinch hit for after about 75% of the at bats and you are talking about maybe 13-14 AB over an entire season. Plus he generally did it when he had a pitcher with a higher BA than the position player. In general batting order makes little difference unless you are doing something crazy like batting your pitcher leadoff or your best hitter in the bottom of the lineup. Don't get me wrong, I think LaRussa is a pompus jerk, but I wouldn't fault him for batting a pitcher 8th instead of 9th.
  5. I thought Hall got much better and played a pretty good CF by the end of the season. I think most of his troubles were at the start of the year.
  6. I am surprised nobody commented on this week's South Park. I think it was the best one so far this season. It sucks that it is a 2 parter, but anytime there is a Thundercats reference you have to be happy.
  7. I would have guessed the opposite. A good offense can get you through the regular season. I look to the Yankees as an example. I would think that every team that makes the post season has a pretty good offfense and the difference is the defense and pitching. A good offense will face 4th and 5th starters often enough to run up big leads so you can get away with below average pitching and defense. Add to that facing teams with only 1 or 2 quality starters so their 2nd or 3rd starter is also pretty bad and you get a lot of run scoring and wins.
  8. They seem to be theirs father's sons thats for sure. That was the quote that stuck out for me also.
  9. Dude, that isn't to bad. I pay $3500 anually for insurance and that doesn't include the portion paid by my company.
  10. PS3 has free online service.
  11. Driving the hookers home is probably cheaper than cab fare.
  12. $5 dollars for a beer? Holy crap I haven't been out for a while. The only place I have ever seen $5 beer is in strip clubs or Brewers games. We used to drink $5 pitchers.
  13. I guess we just disagree that a 4 run game should be considered out of reach 4 innings in.
  14. Harder to overcome, but not impossible. If you are going to slam Yost for not putting his team in the best postion to win, you should also be upset if he gives up 4 innings into a game. Leaving a struggling pither in is not putting your team in the best position to win. To be honest I don't care who the opposing pitcher is. We have come from behind to beat the likes of Clemens and Santana.
  15. Even when the win probability is down to 10% you are going to win 1 out of every 10 games at that point. If you give up 10 times in a year just because your win probabilty got that low you have just given up one win, theoretically. I would guess most of those "95% win probability loses" were blown saves. 4 runs is not a big deficit. A couple hits and a HR and it is cut to 1. Our offense can put up, and has put up, some crooked numbers in a hurry.
  16. That game with 98 pitches was at home against PIT. At 98 pitches I wouldn't find fault with pulling a pitcher. We did lose a few games when our win probability was 95% or higher. Just because your win probability is pretty poor is no reason to just giveup. Especially with half a game to play.
  17. That Capuano was pulled for a pinch hitter to generate some offense on nights when he wasn't effective as a pitcher. These were mostly 4-5 runs deficits early in games. Big deficit, but I would rather our manager try to win the game instead of sitting on his hands and giving up. Any pitcher with 98 pitches after 6 innings is going to have a hard time finishing the next inning. This isn't the AL where you can just throw out your pitcher untill he is no longer effective or he reaches a pitch count. You have to weigh the cost of giving up an out verses the chance the pitcher will finish the next inning without giving up more runs.
  18. I guess I don't understand why you can be as upset with Ned when you admit his pen was poor. You have to look at each reliever on an individual basis to make a decision wether they were overworked. By limiting the pen to 6 or 7 you are excluding Dessens, Aquino and the rest of the turnstile relievers we had. Past the top 3 there was nobody close enough to be considered overworked.
  19. If you drop the 7th guy and stick with only the top 6 their averages all come back up to around 62 appearances. Looking at only the top 3 relievers for each team, they look pretty comparable.
  20. Thought it was a pretty poor show. The only part that brought a chuckle was when the had the "Emmy Award Winning Show" along the bottom while Randy Marsh was in the bathroom. Didn't much care for last week's episode either.
  21. Don I was hoping you would support your accusation that our starters were pulled to early. That was the something that I thought Yost did well. I think Backupcatchers adressed the overuse issue wuite well.
  22. I feel this way about almost all of the Michael story lines. I find his character almost unwatchable most of the time.
  23. Ummm, Attanasio bought the Brewers with the intent of "flipping" them?
  24. Nevermind. I already went over this with you in post #1176.
  25. Are you really Johnny Estrada in disguise?http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
