  1. Looks like the biggest complaint is the Yost didn't let his starters pitch far enough into games. I disagree with the complaint about benching Hall. Hall played poorly all year. Gross and Hall should have and were, for the most part, platooned for the last portion of the season.
  2. I bet it said Ben Sheets was a loser because of his W-L record without regard to peripheral stats.
  3. I dont think I have ever seen a poster take such a beating in a thread wothout posting within that thread.
  4. He is probably trying to figure out wether the baby losing wieght in the first week is a sign of decline or regression towards the mean.
  5. Probably should have said idiot head baker who can't tell the difference between salt and sugar.
  6. I would compare it more to the business firing their baker and not telling you why.
  7. You are talking about a public figure and entity. You don't want to get a reputation as being an organization that bad mouths people when they leave. You also don't want to be accused of slandering a former employee.
  8. Typing with one hand is really tough.
  9. I am not sure what his other duties were though. The only thing I can think of was bunting.
  10. Actually those who don't like Yost should see this as a positive. Especially if they hire Kremblas. Then he will be with the big club all year and ready to step in if Yost gets fired mid season. People who support Yost should look at a promotion to MLB for Kremblas as a negative because all the Yost detractors will be saying that Kremblas is right there to take over at any time.
  11. When Yost makes these mistakes every other game that ends up to 4 games significantly changed a year. Melvin obviously isn't very happy with the way Yost managed this season given his end of season statement so hopefully if Yost doesn't learn what he is doing by mid season we'll go with someone else. Obviously the best case scenario is Yost learns how to manage the in late games. When you say every other game you are talking about more games than we lost. You are saying he made mistakes in every game we lost. He didn't make the wrong choice in pinch hitters that often. This is just another example of overestimating Yost's impact.
  12. I have to say that I would be interested to know what a save is worth. Is Cordero that much better than Linebrink that he might get twice as much money and more years? To me this is one of the problems with using a closer properly. When used in nonsave situations are you taking money away from them? Edit: How much money does a reliever similar to Cordero make if saves are not taken into account?
  13. San Francisco 49ers I have no idea why, but I have liked them since 4th grade.
  14. 3 year average OBP of .361 against RH pitching.
  15. I don't really like IBB because even though it forces a better matchup, any hitter has a much better chance to fail than to succeed. I am not going to get to upset over pinch hitting either because the difference between a .250 hitter and a .300 hitter is only about one hit a week. I just think the effects of in game decisions are way overestimated. I can understand why people don't like Yost because of his decisions though. To me the 6th inning is where you are still in a grey area with pinch hitting for position players. September is one thing, but before callups you are still dealing with a short bench.
  16. How much of that being lost has to do with having a bulpen full of guys that are not really very good? Outside of Cordero and Shouse in the 2nd half, who was reliable? Yost did not use Cordero quite as well as he should have, but when your SP are not getting out of the 6th you are trying to cover 3 innings every night with only 2 quality guys.
  17. I was thinking the same thing you guys were. It looked like he was giving Weeks a chance to steal a base. I seem to remember JJ taking quite a few first pitches right down the middle that I thought he could have crushed. I originally thought he would make a really good #2 hitter, but I think it takes him to far out of his natural approach. Hitting 6 or 7 might make him more effective.
  18. JJ averages 3.85 pitches per plate appearance. Fielder 3.79. Hart 3.57.
  19. I think Matt Wise should bat leadoff. He put up a pretty good OBP this year. Joking aside I have no problem with Weeks in the leadoff spot. He gets on base at a good clip. If it comes down to getting a professional hitter and gettig a good bulpen arm, I hope Melvin goes for the arm.
  20. I have to agree with that. I think Gross is a pretty solid defender, but not as good as Hart.
  21. The Cubs losing isn't a silver lining. It is a bright sunny day.
  22. Might as well just go with Gross and Dillon.
  23. I got that same E-mail. After skimming it and ascertaining that it was not to inform me that the Cubs winning the division and the Brewers missing the playoffs was just a sick joke I deleted it. After reading it I echo the sentiment that Mark A. is a classy guy and is dedicated to winning. I like how he stated that the team was already on the rise before he arrived thus giving some of the credit to Melvin.
  24. I think the closer issue also has a lot to do with money. The best relievers want to be the closer because they will get saves and therefore recognition and money.
  25. I think Oakland might, but that is more of a GM mandated thing I believe. My brother and I were going to look at closer useage around the league, but I don't think either of us has the time.
