  1. The Cubs have had this situation this year with Marmol. I have no problem with making Turnbow the closer just because of what you described. That way we can hold Shouse and a Rh stud reliever and use them in the higest leverage situations. Even in the 9th when Turnbow clearly doesn't have it. I think the Brewers benifited from having Villanueva in this type of roll early in the season.
  2. I have given it some thought and since managers in general do not use their closer properly we might be better off making Turnbow the closer. That way we can designate our best LH reliever and RH reliever as "stoppers." We then could use them in the highest leverage and thus most important situations. This is one area where the Cubs have been lucky in that their best reliever might be considered Marmol but since he is young he does not get the closer designation. Just a thought.
  3. Superstition prevents me from saying they are done.
  4. I drink mostly Leinies or Hacker-Pschorr Weisse. I would compare it to Crop Circle Wheat at The Great Dane.
  5. The biggest problem, outside of general inconsistency of relief pitching, with signing either is they would more than likley require more than one year deals. So we might be able to afford them for next year, but after that we would be short money to give extentions to our young infield. They are going to require lots of money to keep together even through their arbitration years. Next year is really not the problem. It will be 2-3 years from now.
  6. Terrible lapse in judgement. You have let all of us at Brewerfan down.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif Hope you found a hospital in Milwaukee. If Mitch Stetter is an obstetrician, maybe a seat next to the bulpen would be ok.
  7. "I just view that chance, however slight, as being the responsibility of the manager to create whenever possible, as opposed to when he feels like the time is right, and think that we certainly will be able to upgrade in this regard." The thing is that when you look at how closers are used across all of MLB, most are not being used in the best places. Is it more important to use your best reliever in the 9th with no outs up by 3 runs or in the 6th with the bases loaded, no outs and up by 1 run? So when you look at it, managing is done more as an art than a science.
  8. Actually when you look back most of the catchers we have had recently are still in MLB, for at least part of the season, while many of our previous position players and pitchers are out of baseball.
  9. I think Shouse and a good right hander would be more important than an actual closer. A closer doesn't necessarily pitch in the toughest situations. I also think we are "stuck" with Estrada. Lf I am not sure about. I think they would be best off keeping Jenkins and using all their outfielders like they have recently with Gross/Hall playing in a kind of platoon.
  10. I know that it was used to illustrate the difference.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif I am also not disagreeing that Yost has cost us games. I just disagree that another manager would definitely be better. I just think that when anybody is talking about in game moves that the decision is not about which is the better choice, but at what point that better option will make enough of a difference that it should be made.
  11. TLB I really don't think we are that far off on our opinions. Like you said we both think the difference a manager makes is relativley small. I think the difference is that, sorry if I put words in your mouth here, you belive that another manager would win or not lose us those 2 games and I am not convinced. I also think you have already made up your mind that Yost should be gone and I am reserving judgement until the season is over.
  12. Just to claify since I though you were refering to Yost being manager. At what point in a game is one option drastically different enough to warrant a move.
  13. I just think it would be trading one set of mistakes for a whole new set of mistakes. We are also not talking about right and wrong. We are talking about better and best. At what point is one option drastically different enough to warrant a move. I understand that there is always a best move, but deciding at what point that move should be made is all a matter of opinion. For example, in my opinion the best time to use Cordero is any time after the starting pitcher has exited and the winning run is in the on deck circle. Unless that is the 8th inning or later almost no manager is going to do that.
  14. The days of the father passing out cigars in the waiting room are long over, my friend. I guarantee that when it comes down to the day of your child's birth, you will want to be in the delivery room. You can be up at your wife's head. And if you don't want to be in there, your wife will make you. Yeah you can sit where you don't see to much. Do not miss the birth of your child. That is one thing you would never live down. On that note I was wondering how Russ is handling the impending birth of his first child. I seem to remember he mentioned something about a due date around the playoffs and how he could make it to the games.
  15. I would say less of an impact on our chances since they are currently making the mistakes for another team. If they managed for us they would hurt us. I think it would be fair to say that many posters don't like many of Yost's moves this year. If that is true it stands to reason that they would like to see him replaced. If that is the case then are we necessarily going to see a manager that manages differently enough to make a big impact on wins and loses.
  16. I am not saying that the criticsms of Yost are not valid or that Yost hasn't lost us games. I am just saying that if we looked at any other manager in the league with this much scrutiny we would probably find many of the same mistakes.
  17. I must be missing something. Care to explain the correlation between the two situations (other than the fact that they were questioned by fans)? That is the whole point of what I was saying. Yost is questioned on every move he makes at this point in the season. It is just the attitude that people seem to take every move as being right or wrong that bothers me. Some moves are better than others, but it is just degrees. If Yost does something one way he gets blamed for the loss. He makes the move the other way the next time and still gets blamed. At this point some people just have Yost hate blinders on. People are entitled to that opinion. I just think there should be some blame spread out to the players and a little less on the manager.
  18. Actually, that's well put - in that, it illustrates that no matter what happens, if the Brewers lose, Yost somehow mishandled the bullpen in the minds of many here. and yet some how no matter how bad yost mishandles the bulpen, there are some here that still think Yost can do no wrong. Good luck finding somebody who thinks that.
  19. I think the first season was pretty much like the original BBC Office, but americanized(the plots were similar). I liked the BBC version better because some of the stuff didn't translate well(Yes English isn't exactly English). The Office is better now than it was then. The US version has run longer than the BBC version, but I think that has more to do with the creators, at least one of them, having a short attention span.
  20. I am going to go out on a limb and say most players don't live where they play so it is kind of tough to conceive a child during the 7-8 months you are gone during the year.
  21. This sounds like when Yost brought in Aquino at the end of the inning except in opposite.
  22. I Saw Your Mommy by Suicidal Tendencies. No idea why. Just stuck in there right now.
  23. I personally almost never wear Brewers gear outside of baseball games. I guess to me it is liek dressing up to go out to eat. I never wear hats outside of games either.
  24. If I recall, Hall wasn't exactly a very good defender either. In fact this year his 9 errors is his fewest since 2002, and that year he only played in 15 games. The thing I look at is Weeks still gets on base even when he isn't hitting. He and Estrada are pretty much opposite hitters. One has a high(wel kind of) BA and mediocre OBP and the other has a poor BA and a decent OBP.
