  1. Losing by 15 runs may hurt our pythagorean record by more than one loss, but it only adds up to one loss in the standings.
  2. I wouldn't go so far as to blame Estrada for our pitching. I think he might be some small part of the problem. I am not seeing as many pitches in the dirt aas I am used to. I remember the last few years that whenever Sheets had a guy on 2 strikes you would see quite a few balls in the dirt. My perception is that Estrada doesn't call for breaking balls in the dirt as much as Miller and Moeller did. I might be wrong though. It seems like our pitchers are having a hard time finishing guys off when they get to 2 strikes. I am not sure if that is because Estrada is calling pitches out of the zone because he wants them or he is calling them because that is what the pitcher prefers. I wish our pitchers would be more agressive.
  3. Sheets is pretty good at giving you 7+ innings on a regular basis. Gallardo is only going 6 most of the time. This taxes our bullpen and has a cumulative effect. I know it is hard to quantify, but I think our bullpen would be much better rested now if we hadn't lost Sheets. Also we could have had Gallardo for September and the playoffs, now he will be at his innings limit and more than likley shut down by mid Sepember. To me the loss of Sheets is more replacing Gallardo starts with Vargas starts late in the year.
  4. Starters 8 Estrada Fielder Weeks Braun Hardy Jenkins Hall Hart Bench 6 Counsell Graffanino Mench Gross Gwynn Miller Starting Pitchers 3 Sheets Capuano Suppan Relief 8 Cordero Turnbow Linebrink Shouse Villanueva Bush Wise Vargas I know I left Gallardo off. I think he is better than some of the pitchers that I have on there, but i think he will hit his innings limit for the year by the end of August. I don't see the Brewers keeping more than 11 pitchers for the playoffs because of off days. I wouldn't be surprised to see them substitute Dillion for either Gross or more likley Gwynn, depending how he does in August. EDIT: If Yo makes all of his starts in August he will have approx. 20 innings left for the month of September. Even if he is shut down for all of September, which I think would be foolish if you want him to pitch again this year, he would only be good for 3-4 more short starts in the playoffs.
  5. If they would put out more decent videogames I doubt I would miss either much. Of course missing Brewers games would be tough.
  6. Take out Dillion and put in Gwynn and I would agree. I am not sold that Gwynn would be the better choice just that Yost and Melvin seem to like him off the bench. I could even see one more pitcher left off, but I don't know who that would be. Vargas or maybe Wise at this point. Might also add Parra so Ned has another lefty out in the pen.
  7. For the record, I always liked the guy. I was disappointed that he wasn't a second coming of Mike Schmidt but he wasn't that bad of a player when healthy. I understand that he is a nice guy and was well liked by his teammates. He was a horrible fielder and is more suited to playing in the AL as strictly a DH. Put a guy who is slightly less mobile than Prince with stone hands at 3B and you get Wes Helms.
  8. This sucks. I would rather the Cubs just play horrible. I much prefer a long Soriano slump to an injury.
  9. I see Wes is still a Brewer killer. He has been winning games for the other team since he played for us. I wouldn't boo Wes "Fatty" Helms even though I still am sickened by his play.
  10. That's true. He came out and talked to Suppan before pulling him. The inning before they showed Suppan breathing with a towel held over his face by the trainer. Kind of reminds me of the critisism Yost got for leaving Cappy in to long in Washington after he ran the bases in the heat. Seems like kind of the same situation except this time he pulled the guy.
  11. You are really overlooking the fact that the relievers that got pulled were not exactly effective.
  12. I have to agree this was more of an issue with the relievers not getting the job done. I think in the first half of the season that Ned would have left Villy in there longer. I thought Villy was going to finish the game. I think if Villy would have been effective he would have left in longer and we use 2 relievers instead of 5. Yost has had a much quicker hook lately. You really can't blame him with all the 6th inning blowups by the starters earlier in the year.
  13. I am sure you probably know, but Ichiro signed a contract extension.
  14. "I kind of wish the fans wouldn't boo," Fielder said. "I wish they would stay positive like we are. They probably get frustrated as well, but this isn't New York. Hopefully, they can just stay in it, eliminate some of the boos and stay loud like that." Yeah I saw that comment by Prince. I agree. We shouldn't act like New York fans. This will also come into consideration when free agents are thinking about where to sign. We can't pay as much as other teams, so we have to have some appeal.
  15. I realize AAA innings are as taxing as MLB innings. In AAA you can schedule 2 inning starts where in the big leagues I think our pen is tired throughout and will get used quite extensivley. Thus having a fresh arm or a player you don't care if you burn out would be more useful than a young pitcher who is on an innigs limit.
  16. I actually hope they option Parra so they can limit his innings somewhat in AAA. Then we have him at the end of the year and the playoffs.
  17. Yost has been doing this all season. The first time was back in April during a Brewers/Cubs game. The Brewers had tied the game the inning before and Villanueva couldn't find the strike zone. Yost popped out and gave his "one way conversation". The thing is we really don't know what he is saying out there. He could be going out and telling the pitcher to look at the cute girl in the second row. Managers have said stranger things to players.
  18. I think the 24 - 10 start got Ned Yost "fired in the media". At the start of the season reasonable expectations were I believe around 85 wins this year. We are on pace for 86 which looks like it might not win the division and everybody seems upset. I am upset. At the start of the year this was expected to be a growing year where we might get the wild card and get some playoff experience. Now the expectations seem to be World Series or bust. I am not saying that I am happy with how things have been going lately, just that maybe we should look back at what was expected at the start of the year and realize this team is still doing pretty well. This is also what hopes to be a 5 year run with the players we have now. I have to say that I am pretty indifferent to who our manager is as long as they have a laid back personality and don't say dumb things or act like fools for the media.(I am looking at you Pinella) I guess I am proBrewers manager. Right now that means proYost.
  19. I think you and I are watching 2 different managers. Up until the last month Yost has rarley gone out and chewed out pitchers. I don't remember him chewing out other players in public at all. He almost never says anything about players in the media. I don't know which managers you are comparing him to, but Yost seems to keep most stuff in house.
  20. Like I have said in the past, if Suppan plays up to expectations we don't want to trade him and if he doesn't we can't trade him.
  21. I am sorry I got off topic, but the title does include the question "Ned Yost's fate after THIS season?"
  22. Where were the Brewers expected to win the division? JJ Hardy had 2 great months until the league figured him out and he regressed towards expectations. Sheets is hurt. Prince had 3 homers for the month of July. The only player hitting in the month of July was Braun. The Brewers did start the year great. They played inferior talent for the whole month of April. By my count Capuano has had 4-5 starts where he should have gotten a win. Players win or lose games. Managers take the blame.
  23. Ned Yost's fate after THIS season? Probably a contract extention.
  24. I think I read somewhere that if he spends less than 18 days in AAA he does not use up an option. I don't think Weeks problem this year has been defense. To me his defense has looked pretty good. I just wish he would play good defense and have good offense at the same time. I believe that he will be back and starting at 2B for us by the end of August at the latest. I still believe that Weeks is going to be a big part of consecutive succesful seasons for Milwaukee.
  25. No way I would want Pinella as manager. I like Ned's personality way better than Lou my players suck Pinella. Most managers, in my opinion, manage the game pretty much the same so the only difference is how they act and Pinella is a butt head.
