Agreed, but catching cheaters equates to enforcing the rules. So if the test is inconclusive, then maybe the substance in question shouldn't be illegal? The other possibility is they don't have a good test for it.
Even with the rules being enforced there is no guarantee that the cheaters are using anything illegal that will show up in testing. Banning substances is easy. Catching cheaters is not.
That 96 Brewer team was better than you remember. They scored a whopping 894 runs. That's more than the 82 Brewers who scored 891. Unfortunately the pitching was as bad as the hitting was good. How does that compare to the rest of the league. 82 and 96 were drastically different run scoring environments.
Of course giving up a pick and signing a 34 year old pitcher to a multi-year deal wouldn't be the end of the world. It would merely be incredibly stupid.
Giving up a 1st round pick for a 34 year old pitcher seems well, dumb. Absolutely moronic. And, Doug, "30" is not "34." I was trying to be nice by just saying dumb.
Is Narveson worth the marginal wins over the young pitchers or would you rather go with one of the young guys to see what we have? I would rather go with the young guys. Higher upside also. If Narveson comes back and you can get something good in trade, I would trade him.
I don't understand this logic. What do you have against Aoki? If he has the same season he had last year, how can you hope he loses his job? Aoki seems to get no respect from the majority of posters here. I like the guy. I think Gamel would have been a better hitter than Aoki with a slight step back on defense.
