  1. They were illegal when they were illegal in the US. According to the CBA any illegal drug was illegal if it was illegal in the US. It was just never tested for or enforced.
  2. Double post 2 months apart. I have been drinking a lot of ambar beers lately. Got a little burned out on the hoppy beers. Didn't stop me from making a couple of hop bursted beers a few weeks ago for the Supoer Bowl(go Niners) or making a couple more mañana. Brewing for Opening Day. Snoweshoe ale is good. I tried a Louie's Demise, also good. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=822063#p822063 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=8034
  3. His stats looked good but I was wondering because I am afraid the Yankees and other big teams will start throwing around money at less than elite guys to receive draft pick compensation if they leave. I hope the new CBA doesn't play out that way.
  4. Aoki traded would open up a spot for Gamel. I would love to see that if we got a decent player back. I think Gamel is going to steal playing time away from Aoki as the season progresses.
  5. I would be very very happy with that batting line out of Segura. Add that line to average defense and that would probably put him in the top half of SS in the league.. Pretty decent projection for Gamel as well considering his MLB stats. About the same as Aoki.
  6. Did Soriano deserve to be offered the QO or was it a case of New York throwing their money around?
  7. I don't like that a team like the Brewers shouldn't or can't offer a mid level guy the QO while a bigger team like the Yankees or Dodgers could.
  8. and he barely played this year.
  9. How is a 100% chance to score a run worse than setting yourself up for 2 guys who will make an out at least 60% of the time? That is basically what you seem to be saying. When that day comes, we will have a much worse offense unless we replace the guys who leave with comparable hitters or the guys we currently have will have to improve quite a bit.
  10. Not a bad deal for an AL club.
  11. My understanding is that a corked bat wouldn't help with HR anyway. Superballs in a bat on the other hand would help a lot.
  12. BA and K% are terrible ways to measure a hitter. K rate is already taken into account in OBP, wOBA and OPS. K rate and BA by themselves are practically useless.
  13. I think you underestimate just how hard it is to hit .300+ and how good the guys who do are. Only 23 guys who qualified for the batting title did last year and only 62 hit .280 or higher. Drop it down to 400PA(or just over half a year) and you go to 32 and 76. Given that I think a .280 BA is pretty reasonable. A .060 split in BA - OBP also seems pretty reasonable and I wouldn't expect an ISO much over .150. Guys with a higher ISO usually hit at least 20 HR and I don't think Lucroy has that kind of power. That leaves us with a line of about .280/.340/.430/.770.
  14. If I had to guess I would say he is a .280/.340/.430/.770 hitter. He has gap power not HR power and doesn't have much speed.
  15. Closer to the middle.
  16. Have young kids. No excuse needed. Either that or work late that evening.
  17. To be fair the Astros made a lot of bad decisions post Bagwell/Biggio. They kept trading away young talent for starters for years and years after those guys were gone.
  18. No, he is to old. I want young guys we will have under control for a while not old overpriced talent.
  19. They were special players. Hart isn't.
  20. The bias is that Weeks is a very very good hitter and has been for years. He has shown that even whe he is not hitting he will take a lot of walks and still help the team. Segura's stats at the MLB level last year are pretty much an indication of nothing. At this point I think Weeks is clearly a better hitter than Segura.
  21. Oh it's not what I would want just what I think would be best given the lack of imagination and inability to do anything innovative MLB managers have.
  22. Weeks at the bottom of the lineup is probably not the best use of his talent. Aoki Weeks Braun Ramirez Hart Lucroy Gomez Segura Pitcher is probably the best way to go. Giving Segura almost a month's worth of PA more than Weeks is just not a good idea. Getting guys on base ahead of Braun and Ramirez is the most important thing we can do.
  23. Moving Lucroy to RF or 1B would destroy his value. I don't think he will hit as well as he did last year. He is a good hitter for a catcher but not really good for other positions let alone positions where you put guys for their bat. Not to mention I don't think he is anywhere near athletic enough to play RF. Edit: Destroy is probably a little harsh. It would severely cut into his value. Alot of his value is the fact that he can play catcher. His bat isn't good enough that you need to find ways to get him on the field.
