  1. I'd love to see Braun's name cleared, but at the same time I don't put athletes on pedestals. My hero growing up was Paul Molitor, a flawed man for sure. I don't think kids can't look up to someone who is still human and makes a mistake. Not saying anything about Braun one way or another, just my two cents on the general way kids and even adults look at athletes.
  2. I believe that this would be the best possible result for the Brewers, as it is the first unprotected pick, a.k.a. the best pick any team could have received from losing a Type A free agent. I'd rather have Prince Fielder than the pick. Is there an impact bat that will be available at 16?Would you rather have Prince Fielder than the pick plus $20 mill per season?
  3. He has such a good swing he spent last September at home. Any hope I had for Gamel being a productive EVERYDAY player went out the window when Don Money completely buried him.The truth is Don Money buries just about everyone.
  4. Well the limit thing finally came up for the blog RSS feeds as I am running an app that downloads entire articles for offline reading (I spend a lot of time on the Subway in Chicago). It took me all of 3 minutes to sub out JSOnline's blogs for Brewers/Packers/MU coverage to BrewCrew Ball, Acme Packing Company, and Cracked Sidewalks. Life goes on.
  5. And the Asus Transformer Prime is available for $400. It does everything I need and I like ICS (it will be updated soon). Why would I wait for another OS when I could have a 10.1" quad core ICS tablet right now for that price?
  6. Except that it is expected that you put in a ratio of 3-1, 2-1, and 4-1 in the various batches. The three batches together gives you an accurate amount. Bad analogy, but just trying to make it more correct for our given situation. 3 to 4 years of UZR data isn't perfect, but it gives you a pretty accurate evaluation of that players defensive value over that time. Just because you combined several individually inaccurate years doesn't mean the result is flawed as well.
  7. Cavemen are supposed to be great live. I believe the guys on All Songs Considered talk them up a lot.
  8. I can't wait for this album. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is basically just James Mercer operating under the Shins' name, no? The rest of the band moved on?
  9. He didn't lose his existing job in Japan so I don't see how your analogy makes any sense. My office just had an engineer fly to Kuwait for a week to study and bid on a job. We didn't get it, and our company paid for everything out of pocket. If we had gotten the job, it would have been huge. That's business. No hard feelings and we will pursue work like that again if it comes up. I really think you are looking at this on a way to personal and emotional level. Even if the Brewers had little intention of negotiating with him unless they were blown away this isn't something that doesn't happen thousands of times a day in private industry to people who stand to make much less. What about all the companies that go to college career fairs with no intention of hiring anyone? What about all the companies that have openings posted on their website to see if that one resume comes in that blows them away. What about interviewing people as a favor to someone when you have no intention of hiring them? These things happen all the time and create false hope for people who actually need money in a terrible economy. I can't see how anyone could lose sleep over Aoki getting a tryout from a GM who needed to be blown away to make an offer.
  10. If the number is inaccurate when the sample size is small, it would stand to reason that if the sample size were larger the number would become more accurate.
  11. You're acting like flying from Japan to AZ for free to interview for a job is the worst thing in the world. People do this sort of thing all the time, not to mention a professional baseball player who has played internationally several times in the past. And him uprooting his whole life? What about all the American's who move overseas for work at much less pay than a baseball player. I'm sure he will be fine and I doubt there is any bad blood. If anything, Aoki is probably upset such a low bid won. If there isn't much interest for him, and he is upset about that, he can have a better year in Japan this season.
  12. It seems like a lot of times people look at WAR over a multi-year span though when trying to decide if one player is better than another. I don't really have a problem with this method as a starting point.
  13. My Pulse Reader account continues to pull stories from the Blog RSS feeds without a problem so I can read them offline while on the Chi subway.
  14. I have the RSS feeds from the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and MU blogs going into my Google Reader and Pulse app. So far so good. It will be interesting to see if I lose this.
  15. Haha, yes...thanks. I was in such a rage I couldn't even type properly. I agree, there is value in both stats. But as you said, its been leading to nothing but confusion even on a site like this one where you have pretty knowledgeable fans.
  16. You're going to completely revise that first statement after you play Uncharted 1, 2, and 3. I think maybe the reason I was disapointed in AC was because I had just played Uncharted 2 and then went to Uncharted 3 after.Nah. I've played the Uncharted and Arkham City, and AC gets the nod for sure. Uncharted 3 isn't much different from the previous games. AC is head and shoulders better than AA. Don't get me wrong, both franchises are good, but Uncharted is just Indiana Jones as a game. The Batman games are great super hero epics. And the ending to AC was the best I've ever seen in any game. Well you are entitled to your opinion. The major knock on the game from reviewers was that the story suffered from way to many underdeveloped characters, especially when compared to the first game. I completely agree.
  17. Its awful that BF was allowed to call their calc WAR. I get that's its somewhat arbitrary, but why call it the same thing if you go second. You are going to cause nothing but confusion.
  18. We played "Things" on X-mas and it's definitely a lot of fun after a few cocktails. That game led to one of the most awkward experiences I've ever had. I played it in a group that included a then current girlfriend and a then ex girlfriend. The then ex girlfriend and I got like 90% of the stuff the other said, which didn't sit well with the current girlfriend. And of course the booze didn't help things.
  19. Jebus, this thread is depressing. I went to a classy lounge on the north side of Chicago with my girlfriend and all her friends. A couple of my buddies tagged along as well. $50 for unlimited Grey Goose and other top shelf liquors...from what I remember I had a great time.
  20. You're going to completely revise that first statement after you play Uncharted 1, 2, and 3. I think maybe the reason I was disapointed in AC was because I had just played Uncharted 2 and then went to Uncharted 3 after.I put about 2 hours into Uncharted 1 last night, and while the story is interesting so far, the amount of puzzle solving and ridiculous platforming is incredibly annoying. Some of the platforming sections require you to be ultra-precise with your landing and takeoff spots, and that's annoying when sometimes, the camera is adjustable, and sometimes, it's not. Doesn't Drake let you know if you can make it or not by the way he orientates his body before jumping? I don't remember this problem at all, at least from 2 and 3.
  21. What am I missing? Why can't people get local news from sites like WTMJ or Fox6? Sports was the only real reason to go to JSOnline for me in the past.
  22. It really seems like some consumers are missing the point of these entry level tablets. They want the UI experience and capabilities of a top of the line tablet, but want to pay 1/3 the price. It doesn't work like that. Thats why I think the Fire is perfect for what it is, but people need to understand what they are getting.
  23. Looks like ill be getting my news from the bloggers who usually scoop Tom anyway.
  24. Honestly, without spoiling anything, the writing, script, and voice acting in Arkham City is head and shoulders above almost anything out there in the video game world right now. Once I tire of Arkham City, I have Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 all ready to roll. You're going to completely revise that first statement after you play Uncharted 1, 2, and 3. I think maybe the reason I was disapointed in AC was because I had just played Uncharted 2 and then went to Uncharted 3 after.
