  1. Escobar struck out 82 times in AA. That's a lot of K's for a guy who hit only 8 homers. I think he'd strike out 250 times playing everyday in majors at this point. He needs to stop missing the ball so much.
  2. This is how I feel too. You can file this under game management or a new category, but I think the Brewers now need a manager who puts the team in best position to win every game. That should take priority of the Ned Years Philosophy of developing young talent. If Corey Hart can no longer hit righties, then somebody who can should be playing in those situations.
  3. Nicely done! :D
  4. Everytime I try and post to this topic the site crashes! edit: well except this time I guess. Anyway, three times today I've attempted to reply to the DeJesus/Hart debate and each time an error comes up when I click to submit. I haven't the strength to look up all the numbers again!
  5. I think they are ready to make the Red Sox Youkilis' team. He will be there for a long time.
  6. Davey left Baltimore because he couldn't get along with Angelos. That makes him a hero in my book. I think he fought with management wherever he went, so that makes the bosses reluctant to hire him. I think he was respected by his players but not necessarily liked. To me he is the best available manager. Here's a good interview with him from last April. He says he doesn't think he wants to manage in the majors anymore: http://www.nydailynews.co...html?print=1&page=all He was really sick with an appendix condition for a few years but is healthy now. His daughter died of septic shock in 2005. He is my first choice for any managing job. I was intrigued by Macha but now am hesitant given the player comments. The rest of the retreads make me ill. They would be worse than Ned. Davey has a career .564 winning pct. In many ways he's the Earl Weaver of his generation.
  7. I suppose he could 1B if you traded Fielder. But he 's only played more than 126 games once in his career. I think he stays in the AL as a DH with at best, a 2 year deal.
  8. Well, good luck to him, if he wants it. The Seattle job should be one of the best in the business. They have tons of cash, good fan base, great stadium, and a division that's not terribly tough.
  9. I was at a game a few years back against the Twins in MP. Great, close game. Here's how I recall it. Twins had bases loaded. Batter hits blooper over 1B along the RF line. Jenkins comes screaming in, catches the ball on one bounce, keeps his stride and throws a dart home to tag out the runner. A single with the bases loaded and nobody scores! Another play, a couple years before. Jenkins crashes into the LF corner wall, against his left shoulder. Still against the wall he makes a perfect throw to 1B to double up the runner trying to tag. Great catch, outstanding throw. Maybe the best throw from OF I've ever seen.
  10. I like that lineup. Trade Hart or Escobar + a middling prospect or two for David DeJesus. Bat DeJesus leadoff, then Weeks-Fielder-Braun-Hardy. The Brewers might lead the league in 1st inning runs.
  11. The offense was sub par this past season. It won't get better with the same parts or by subtracting the third best hitter on the team.
  12. David Wright and Albert Pujols. Pujols is signed for 3 more years at $16 million. That's affordable. He is much better than Ryan Braun. I doubt Braun will ever match a season like Injured Albert just had. Pujols is only 3-1/2 years older. Wright is signed through 2012 with an option for 2013. So his contract is similar to Braun's. Wright is only a year older, a great 3B, drew 52 more walks this year; I think he's the better player. Once Braun starts drawing 80-90 walks a year I wouoldn't trade him for nobody. If he continues to walk less the 50 times a season his career may not last the length of his contract.
  13. Is Jenkins injured? He seems like a decent guy. He gave his best years playing for really rotten Brewer teams, but he was not part of the problem in those days. I hope he's enjoying the run, but it must be a little bittersweet for him, knowing he isn't a quality player anymore.
  14. I don't think anyone is advocating signing Bush at free agent pricing. The idea is buy out one year of free agency with maybe an option for another. If you do it this winter the contract has a better chance of staying reasonable, then you can always trade him a year or two down the road when all those wonderful Brewer pitching prospects make the big leagues. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. I've always liked him. We've seen what average, never-gets-injured starters get on the open market: 4yrs/$40 million. I'd like to have him for 3 or 4 more years at a lesser cost.
  16. Thank you. I'm not reading anymore "trade hardy or move him 3rd whether he likes it or not" threads.
  17. The problem is Hall hit .182 in September; .207/.292/.326 were his rate stats after the All Star break. Ned couldn't resist playing him against against righties, presumably because Bill is a good guy and Ned wanted to keep him happy. Platoons only work if you stick with them. Dale appeared to have a better understanding of that.
  18. They stayed in their horrendous slump after he took over. Bunting and giving away outs is a terrible thing to do when a team is slumping.A better way to break a team wide slump is to use more favorable matchups on a game by game basis. I would have sacrificed catching defense every once in a while for a better hitter in Rivera. Inserting lefties like Nelson in RF and Lamb at 3B against righties would have improved the odds of a better offensive attack. The joy that Ned and Dale took in playing 3 automatic outs (Hart, Counsell/Hall, Kendall) everyday the last 6 weeks was inexcusable.
  19. For this winter I'd try to lock in Hardy and Bush to multiple year deals that would buy out a year or two of free agency. I'm not sure what to do with Prince. At this point my feeling is to go year by year. I'm not opposed to a longer term deal that would buy a year or two of free agency. If Parra, Yo and Villanueva put in good seasons in 2009 you look at longer term deals. There's no need to lock in Weeks right now. He needs to be better than average for any long term deal. Frankly I'd be shopping Corey Hart this winter. So I'm not in favor of anything other than a year by year deal for him at this point.
  20. A better, more balanced offense, fueled by a manager who uses his bench players in a thoughtful consistent manner. A solid, heathy rotation that is dominating the league by mid-season. An Earl Weaver type manager that tells his relievers their role is to warm up when he tells them and go into the game when he tells them. 96 wins, a division title, and World Series Championship.
  21. I posted the last few paragraphs of the Open Letter on an Orioles site that I administer. One of the better posters, Bill, came up with this gem of a response:
  22. Looks like he's signed for $9 million for 2009, then a new 3 year deal he signed in '07 kicks in 2010-2012. 2010 he gets a full no trade clause, so that's why the Padres want to move him now, I suppose. After that he can block trades to certain teams for the duration of the contract. 2010-$15 million; 2011-$16 million; 2012-$17 million; 2013-$22 million with a $4 million buyout. That's more affordable than what you'd have to pay CC. He won't be 28 until next May.
  23. I'm not a big Yosty supporter, but do people really feel Sveum was better than Ned? How does one prove that?
  24. Ennder, why do you feel Cameron was the best choice for leadoff? Weeks hit 263/378/451 post All Star break.
  25. Why do you think that? I don't know that he is the best choice to remain next year, but what did he do that was so terrible?I don't think bunting cures the offense; finding people who get on base does. Batting Cameron first. Benching the 2nd best hitter of the month because he hit .201 in April and May tells me Dale's not very observant. He just seems to be another tired, old school manager that goes on gut instinct, statistical analysis be damned.
